Fuller's 170th Anniversary Celebration Ale

Fuller's 170th Anniversary Celebration Ale

We’ve come a long way since the Fuller, Smith and Turner partnership began in 1845, and many Award-Winning beers have passed through the Griffin Brewery gates since then. To celebrate our heritage and to look towards our future we’ve created this beer using the traditional part-gyle technique... with an adding twist of orange peel.

Zesty orange notes combine with Goldings and Liberty hops to create comples fruit flavors, which are balanced by oats and pale ale malts which provide a full bodied, rich mouthfeel.

This Limited Edition beer is bottle conditioned so the flavors wil continue to develop for years to come. When the time comes to enjoy this beer, serve cool and pour carefully as a natural sediment will form within the bottle.

3.6 Bottle 0,50L. Hazy, orange color with small, frothy, off-white head. Very light fruity aroma, mostly orange. There is almost nothing else on the nose and it seems like a bit of disappoint to me. If aroma and appearance didn’t convinced me, taste seems to be the main joker. It’s a mixture of spices, alcohol, wood cask, caramel and a touch of fruits like peach. Medium to full body, oily texture. Lacks of aroma, otherwise OK.
3.8 Always enjoyed the Fuller’s lineup. Classic english ales. This 170th anniversary batch, which i have aged for about two years, pushes their traditional roots in a slightly new direction. Im this case, they pull it off nicely. A nice array of fresh citrus fruits and light grains greet you on the nose. The light malt, caramel and honey flavors pair well with a pale hop profole that is of passion fruit amd a slight earthiness. The traditional mineral water base adds a pleasant undertone to the expression. The hazy gold body contains a thin oealr head thst rrtins fairly well. Very enjoyable.
2.6 500 ml bottle. Mostly clear lighter orange copper, fading off-white foam. Fruity boozy aroma and taste, tangerine/orange, lean pale malt, no hop, no bitterness, more like a limp tripel. Soft carbonation, medium bodied, low hopped. Unimpressive for an anniversery ale. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)
3.3 Draught at 5p. Copper color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, caramel, toast, nuts, ripe fruits and a bit of hops. Bitter finish with citrus, toast, caramel, nuts and bread. Very nice ale.
3.6 Enticing orange zest aroma in an amber pour. Tasty, fruity, full bodied brew that covers all the bases - but is/was surpassed by an Antipodean take on the style (Yeastie Boys His Majesty 2016).
3.3 Fra fat på Bishops Arms Gamla Stan 26 Nov 16. Gyldenbrun. Lavt skum som etterlater teppelacing. Maltaroma. Smaken malt med undertone av tørket aprikos. Lett metallisk preg.
3.2 Bottle. Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma is orange, orange peel, orange marmalade, some caramel. Taste is orange marmalade, caramel, slight nuttiness, floweriness.
3.6 Aroma of fruits, bread, caramel, orange marmalade and malt. Golden with a off-white head. Medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter. Full body with a average to soft carbonation. Overall a rich, flavour full beer that is quite easy drinkable.
3.7 0,5l bottle from Damian Bottle Shop, Bratislava, Pours light cloudy brigh golden orange liquid, small frothy white head, Aroma: candied orange, citrus, caramel, malty, sweet, cane sugar, Taste: medium to heavy sweet, light to medium bitter, light sour, orange peel, candied fruits, malty, slightly caramel, light spicy, very harmonic, easy drinking despite the alcohol content. Palate: medium body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel, long orange candied aftertaste, Overall: fine, enjoyed, could be more complex, profound.
3.5 500ml Bottle - Amber with a small head. Marmalade, aniseed and apricot in the aroma. Marmalade, biscuity malt and apricot feature in the zesty taste.
3.7 Golden to amber color, tan head. Malty nose, orange marmalade, grass, caramel, over-ripe fruit. Honey taste, orange, malty, caramel, hint of alcohol. Medium body, soft carbonation.
3.7 Ganske smuk klar rødlig/gylden/ kobberfarvet English Strong Ale med minimal top, som straks svinder til kant og overflade. Let perlende i glasset.
3.5 Almost clear, golden orange beer with a small head. Aroma is caramel, malts, fruits and honey. Taste is malts, orange, flower and hops. Quite refreshing, balanced and fruity feeling overall, but orange is quite dominant flavor. Nice package.
3.2 On tap @ Taphouse. This is a crystal clear golden looking one with a small islandy kinda greyish head. Really mild nose. Only subtly hints is red berries, caramel and wet fruit. Surprisingly mild, but still really pleasant to sit and sniff at. Tastes really mild also, at least for a English strong ale. More like an imperial pilsner almost imo. It has a high almost aggressive carbonation level and it feels mild oily in the mouth. Thin caramelly taste. I get a little bit of red berries and wood. Hints of licorice and salt in the aftertaste. A bit dull perhaps, but it kinda grows on you and for the genre, I guess it’s not a bad one at all. 17.10.2015
4.4 Bottle. Cloudy amber color, lasting white head. Complex, appealing aroma with floral hops. Surprisingly dry flavor with hops, honey and orange peel. Medium-full body, medium carbonation. I might mistake this for a double IPA. Wonderful!
4.5 Aroma: Medium marmalade, light caramel. Light floral. Appearance: Hazy, (my mistake) gold body. Small, tan head, fine bubbles. Lacing. Flavour: Medium bitterness, Medium citrus, orange, marmalade, floral, berries. Medium-light bready. Light alcohol, rose. Dry finish with lingering bitterness and orange. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium-low carbonation, creamy. Light warming. Overall: A great beer. Well balanced with the bitterness cutting through the marmalade. Easy drinking, but still something you want to savor. I did not know it was bottle conditioned, so I poured the full bottle. 500 ml bottle, poured. Thanks Tanja! 17A. British Strong Ale.
3.6 A bit fruity and very refreshing in taste, a sweet and floral aftertaste which lingers for a long time. Great beer for a warm summer evening!
3.7 Pours hazy gold with little foam. Aroma is surprisingly refreshing and very fruity, some hoppiness. Flavour is pleasant, honey-sweet at first, fruity and quite hoppy with a very hoppy, fruity and herbal finish which lasts for a while and is really nice! Very drinkable and tasty strong ale from Fuller?s.
3.1 Tap @ Konttori. Pours clear copper color with a small head. Very malty and slightly nutty aroma, some bread notes and subtle hops. Flavor is dry with malts, nuts and bread, bitterness is also strong, sweet toffee on the finish. Decent but simply too English for my taste. 4424
3.5 500 ml bottle. Pours a copper color with moderate head that settles quickly. Aromas of toffee, orange peel, grass, and sweet malts. Flavors of dried orange, dried caramel, grass, and dusty toasted malts. Dry alcohol notes surprising for the ABV.
4.0 Pullo @ Alko. Kaatuu snifteriin kullanoranssina ja kirkkaana, noin 1,5 sormen paksuisella vaahdolla. Tuoksussa on makeaa karamellia ja hunajaa, raikasta hedelmää ja ruohoa. Hyvin raikas ja makea tuoksu. Maku on hyvin hunajainen, hedelmäinen, raikkaan ruohoinen ja pähkinääkin on hieman joukossa. Makeus on jopa marmeladimaista.
3.4 Bottle. Nice beer. The taste is quite sweet with aromas of caramel. The downside is that it’s a bit one-dimensional.
3.3 SAMPLE 75 ml at a tasting. Quince jam flavoured with (artificial?) oranges, orange zest with a harsh moldy bitterness. So, so.
3.9 Copper colour with nice head on top which leaves small lacing. Aroma has orange, caramel and biscuit malts, grass hops and honey sweetness. Taste has caramel malts, biscuits, some honey and then comes fresh orange peel and grass hops with nice bitter ending. Full body and medium carbonation. A very British beer with nice twist on the orange peel.
3.4 Golden, clear, no head. Smells buckwheat honey, dark ripe fruit, passion fruit, some hops. More honey in the taste, alcohol. Medium sweet body with gentle bitter aftertaste
3.8 Bottle. Hazy golden body with a small white head. Nose is toffee, orange blossoms, red fruits, biscuits and hints of nuts, bread dough and peaches. Taste is toffee, peaches, biscuits, caramel and hints of raisins, cookie dough and pale malts. Medium to full body, medium to soft carbonation. Nice and smooth English strong ale, worthy of a Fullers celebration.
3.4 KRS 300116. Golden-orange colour with an off-white head. Aroma is orange, malt, alcohol, hop, pine, citrus. Flavour is orange, malt, alcohol, herbs, hop, pine, citrus, spices, dried fruits, bread. Medium body. OK/Nice beer.
3.6 Thin coarse white head. Clear amber body. Caramelly freshly cut wood aroma with resiny floral notes. Sweet honeyish funky taste with resiny notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, flat mouthfeel. Sweetish funky spicy floral aftertaste with earthy honeyish notes. Outstanding. (0.284l cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen.)
4.2 Bottle of 50cl, in a Guinness glass; room-temperature. Great golden colour with a white head. Taste is malty and fruity, with honey notes. Try it, love it !
3.8 Sampled from a bottle purchased from the brewery. Lovely golden colour with a white head. The taste is malty, fruity and complex, with notes of honey, orange, lemon peel and green tea. Highly drinkable, not too heavy, and absolutely delicious, with a full mouthfeel. Would benefit from even more bottle-age.
