Fuller's ESB (Pasteurised)

Bottle & Keg; Filtered & pasteurised. Note: Since late 2014 all Fuller's beers have been unpasteurised so there are no longer separate listings for cask and bottle/keg versions lon RateBeer. Please do not add new ratings here (unless it was an old bottle/rating). Ratings will be moved when time allows.

First brewed in 1971. Ingredients: Pale Ale malt, Crystal malt and Maize; Target, Challenger, Northdown and Goldings hops.
Brewed at 5.5% ABV in cask and 5.9% ABV in bottle, ESB is a true liquid legend, and should be savoured as such.
ESB has a wonderful rich mahogany appearance. Taking in the nose, the beer is bursting with cherry and orange, balanced by soft malty toffee and caramel notes. The flavour delivers everything you would expect from such a full-bodied ale. The unique blend of Northdown, Target, Challenger and Goldings hops imparts grassy, peppery notes on the tongue along with intense citrus fruit characters of grapefruits, oranges and lemons. The blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts in the brew give a biscuity, toffee element to the beer. A smooth, mellow bitterness lingers on the palate to give a superbly satisfying finish.

3.9 Bottle, draft and can. Bronze color. Aroma: meadow flowers and honey, hoppy, good malts. Taste: sweetish, butter, a little nut in honey, bright tones of malts, warming, dry and bitter finish, very good.
4.4 Pours an amber colour ale with a white thin head Notes of roasted toffee caramel and vanilla malt
3.9 Clear copper, white head. Malt Strawberry, butterscotch. Malt driven, balanced and drinkable. Classic bitter, great bear.
2.3 The bottle I have states 5,9% ABV, not 5,5% as for the other ESB, so I post my rating here. Amber and clear with a thin head. Smell of roasted malts. Bitter at the attack, later the malty component develops. Weak bodied and low carbonation.
3.5 from Gabriele - a bit too sweet
5.0 Gerçekten beğendiğim en güzel bitter biralardan özellikle İstanbul’da bulabileceğiniz nadir İngiliz birası afiyetler olsun...
3.5 I try before the "Porter" and classic beer from this brewery and i get and this one due the high ratings.. First of all the aroma remind me little the "Gouden Carolus imperial Dark" or some "Quadrupel".. But the taste is completely different and remind you some "U.S" beer from "Sierra Nevada" and "Anchor" breweries for sure.. The taste is pleasand with great and malty aftertaste.. The carbonation is soft and the beer has medium body.. Is slightly watery and very easy drinkable and that make it much more better.. Also is very refreshing and easy can make your night or your day.. Overall is very good and pleasand beer to drink anywhere and anytime you choose..
3.4 Thanks minutemat for sharing! (Euro Summer Santa 2019). Clear ruby body with a minimal vanishing white head. Aroma is malty, with notes of biscuits and mild mineral notes. Taste is malty as well, mild hoppy. Mineral finish. Medium body soft carbonation oily texture. Very drinkable.

4.0 W aromacie słodowo z mocnym zaznaczeniem toffi. W smaku toffi z bardzo fajnym goryczkowym finiszem.
3.6 Bottle found in the depths of fridge of nearby hotel near Bodrum. Pours headless amber. Sweet malty nose. Taste has some sweet caramel notes. Medium to high bitterness with toffee line. Good.
3.3 Clear brown colour, small head. Aroma: toffee, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallows, esters, some banana skid, raisins. Taste: caramel, toffee, bitter malt, banana bread, raisins. Quite light mouthfeel, easy drunken.
2.9 Citrusic aroma, pours ambery golden with white head, full bodied, can taste hops and malt with bitterish end notes. Bought from Ülle pood, Tallinn.
3.5 Orange color, middle foam size. Good beer, aroma and taste fit into the style.
3.7 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - deep copper with a very slightly off white head. Nose - fudge and brown bread. Raisins. Taste - fudge again. Prunes and raisins again. Palate - medium bodied and creamy in texture. Decent linger and decent balance. Overall - good.
3.7 Bottle from Sainsburys. Amber coloured with a thick white head. It has a malty, dired fruit and spicy peppery hop flavour followed by an earthy, burnt toffee and marmalade finish. Very good.
2.8 Color naranja oscuro, cobre, transparente.
5.0 Simply the best Bitter outside of Oxford. And it IS available.
4.5 Noooice
3.2 Good, highly drinkable ale of caramel color, aroma and taste. I can recommend.
4.1 0.5 bottle. Gyönyörű mély, sötét borostyán szín. Barnásfehér hab, viszonylag gyorsan apad, de a pohárra tapad. Élesztős, malátás, de háttérben gyümölcsösen komlós illat. Íze meglepően jó. Gyümölcsös, testes, keserű is megfelelő szinten. *** Beautiful deep dark amber color. Brownish-white foam, fades relatively quickly, but adheres to the glass. Yeasty, malty, but fruity hop fragrance in the background. It tastes surprisingly good. Fruity, full-bodied, bitter at the right level. Great hops. You can’t be disappointed in it, again a very fine bitter.
3.5 bottiglia 50 cl , schiuma fine beige media persistenza, colore ambrato limpido, al naso malto caramello cereali e leggero agrumi, in bocca malto cereali caramello pane, corpo rotondo, carbonatazione piatta, dolce con amaro moderato. Buona ma non mia ha fatto impazzire. 16.03.19
3.1 Drinking this is Germany, it's probably just too old. It tastes thin and bittered, unpleasantly.
3.8 Aroma is light hoppy, medium to heavy malty. It smells quite fruity: raisins, red berries, caramel, nuts. Clear mahogany color with a medium sized, creamy, white head. Flavor is medium to heavy sweet, light bitter. It tastes like raisins, red berries, smoke, milk-chocolate. Mouthfeel is thin to oily, body is medium. Finish is short and medium sweet. Very complex, very well balanced. 0,5l bottle from BeerLovers Vienna.
3.9 Aroma: caramel, orange marmalade, some honey, floral and peppery hop Appearance: beautiful dark amber color with excellent clarity and a one-finger beige head. taste: caramel, orange marmalade, some honey, floral and peppery hop. medium to medium-high sweetness, lingering smooth moderate bitterness. Palate: medium body, medium-low carbonation, nice medium dryness in finish. Overall: It showcases delicate balance of malt, fruity yeast and English hops, and is like a lighter version of Fuller's 1885 with really excellent drinkability. Classic ESB.
