Fuller's Imperial IPA

Fuller's Imperial IPA

Made popular by the craft brewers of America, Imperial IPA is a revived style of beer that pushes the boundaries of well-hopped, high-strength ales. Imperial IPA's are traditionally brewed with a high proportion of crystal malt. Our unique take sees UK hop varieties Target, Goldings and Fuggles added to the copper at multiple points during the brew, delivering a piney, earthy aroma and a distinct edge of bitterness. For extra intrigue, we've also added a hint of black pepper - giving the beer a unique spicy twist. Bottle conditioned.

4.7 Bottle, 10.5%. Vinous and citric aroma with some dried sweet fruits. Cloudy red/chestnut colour. Small tan head. The flavour starts off quite sweet and very fruity. Caramelly and quite bitter. Powerful but very well-balanced. A little warming alcohol, but not boozy or bitter from the alcohol. Spicy hop notes, quite surprising considering all the other massive flavours. Great.
3.9 Bottle. Pours cloudy darkish ruby with airy tan head. Clear aroma of malt and fruit, with touches of chocolate and notes of hops and malt. Bitter flavour of hops and alcohol, with sweet notes of malt, fruit and yeast and touches of flowers. Sweetish, estery afteraste with bitter hints of alcohol. A nice one. Reminds me of a SN 1698, layered for 20 years past the BBD.
3.9 From bottle (2017 vintage) in IPA glass. Pours reddish Cu w/beige head, one of the darker IIPA's I've sampled. Earthy, malty & woody aroma, rich malty taste w/a touch of spice in the finish.
3.7 500ml bottle from RusBeerShop in Moscow. Pours opaque orange-brown with a thin beige head. Aroma is treacle, malt, and raisins. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, malt, marmalade, resiny hops. Heavy earthy bitter finish.
3.9 Clear amber color with medium creamy White mostly lasting head. Malty and hoppy aroma. Sweet and bitter flavor. Creamy palate.
3.6 [Bottle (500ml)] Pours a deep ruby with an average size lasting beige head. Minimal lacing. Aroma i smalty, lightly hoppy, fruity, yeasty and with some alcohol. Flavour of caramel malt, some alcohol and hops in the bitter finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good, but weird for a DIPA, it's a bit Vintage Ale-ish.
4.2 500ml bottle. It is a hard bodied, sticky beer with weak foam and CO2. Colour like red grapefruit, smells similar and taste is also. Some smoked malt and touch of alcoholic sweetness. Nice, hoppy with a lot of spicy aromas.
3.5 Strong, heavy taste, bit like syrup. The alcohol sneaks past mouth but can feel it at my throat. Would like more if it would be lighter.
3.8 Nice imperial IPA, taken while finishing chapter 3 of Out of the Abyss and playing a little spinoff from Endgame. Quite an action pack. Good IPA, lack a bit of freshness to it to make it to its peers’ best.
3.8 Bottle. Nose is resin, toffee, malt very limited though. Taste is malty, earthy, resin, pine, hints of soft mango, very earthy, herbal hop notes, peppery, sticky, more malt, fruity, yeast, brown sugar, barley sugars, caramel, strong marmalade with a bitter orange pith. Absolutely delicious malt bomb, decidedly British, and calls to mind the high strength mild with more hops.
2.4 Aroma: Medium-high earthy, toffee, licorice, Appearance: Hazy, dark copper body. Small, creme head. Fine to small bubbles. Low retention. Flavour: Medium-high bitterness. Medium caramel, licorice, earthy. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation, creamy. Light warming. Overall: The licorice is overpowering and not to style. Not sure what IIPA they tried to create, but this was not a good one. 500 ml bottle, poured.
3.4 Fuller's Imperial IPA IIPA - Imperial / Double IPA 647413 Lukt: Humle, karamell. Utseende: Lys brun. Skum/kullsyre: Tynt skum. Smak: Humle, karamell, krydder. Hvor: Samling Bryne. Medium: Flaske@500ml, ABV@10,5%, Når@01.02.2020
4.2 Dark copper, clean, off white beerhead, ok retention. Intensive oxidized hoppy flavor. Caramel, barrel aged, raisiny, medium sweetness, soft carbonation, high bitterness.
3.8 500ml brown bottle in a Fuller's box that pours a clean dark amber colour with a copper hue. The frothy head is a nice side, frothy, light-beige with good retention and great splashy lacing. Crazy rich malty scent with caramel and butterscotch. The taste takes a curve with mostly raisin flavours. Not as rich, thankfully, with the well-balanced hops to create a dry and bitter finish. Make this one easier to drink than smell, even though everything here is not bad at all. Some decent nuttiness comes out to calm the rich nose.
3.9 Creamy tan head stayed on an unclear reddish brown still body. Heavy malt, stewed fruit & spice aroma. Full bodied, smooth, oily & clean on the back. Sweet stewed fruit, malt, syrup & red berry tastes with a long tangy finish of pine, pith & resin.
4.2 Bottle from the LCBO. Dark copper pour, with a large off white head. Aroma is a bast of thick, sticky, syrupy malts. Caramel, toffee, and sticky, dank pine resins abound. The malt bill on this must be massive. This is a true old school DIPA. Just a sticky glass of high octane malty pine juice. fantastic, i loved it.
3.9 Bottle - 500ml. Hazy copper body with an average, lasting, off-white frothy head. Well balanced, rich hoppy aroma with malty, caramel, and woody hints. Alcohol is discreet. Its robust, hoppy taste carries woody, caramel, barley sugar, malty, yeasty notes. Ends with a long, strong, warming bittersweet finish. Good stuff.
3.9 (bottle) hazy, bright, dark orange amber colour with a small tan head; aroma of orange marmalade, tropical fruit jam; balanced flavour with a long, medium bitter finish
3.5 Bottle Conditioned. Pours a dark brown colour with a tight white head, fruit aroma and hoppy, the taste is medium bitterness and fruity with a dry bitter finish.
4.2 the aroma: hoppy and fruity with hints of bitter orange, key lime, pine, tart berries, resin and spicy herbs... the taste: fruity and hoppy with notes of sweet and bitter orange, tangerine, red wine, pine needles, berries and spicy grasses... the aftertaste: sweet, bitter, dry and warming... summary: very nice...
3.0 Pours hazy chesnut brown small white head. Aroma of toffee. Taste of caramel. Hides alcohol well. Low carbonation. slight sweet finish.
3.8 Bottle at Old Joint Stock during SHNup: Poured a light brown with lacing off white head. Aroma is sweet caramel and toffee. This one is boozy, caramel, toffee, huge hops, very big beer.
4.5 From a 500ml bottle on 17/1/2020 (Christmas present from Desmond). Pours a really deep cloudy amber with small head which dissipates quickly. The nose features toffee, caramel, cake, spice and dried fruit. Flavour wise, it's huge and impressive. Again, there's caramel, toffee, and Christmas cake, but also butterscotch, as well as dates, prunes and raisins. There are some firm piney slightly spicy hops at the back, which finish of proceedings beautifully. The mouthfeel is sticky and syrupy, the carbonation moderate. Goddamn this is a magnificent, complex, rich and sumptuous treat. Seems more like a hoppy barley wine than IIPA, but who cares when it's this good? The 10.5% doesn't necessarily surprise, yet it's extremely approachable. Just outstanding.
4.2 Bottle from the LCBO. In its latest effort at over-packaging an ultra premium beer, Fullers triumphs with the darkest amber ale you've ever seen. Densely flavorful, exudes richness and a hop oil quality that outshines some of their vintage ales, with the supporting fruit bringing in dried apricots, raisins and fruit cake bready sweetness. Some lemony and gently peppery qualities. The finish hangs long and viscous with nice residual bitterness. Great even for the 8 bucks will probably age like the English barley wine it truly appears to be. How did I yet overlook this.
3.8 Bottle from LCBO. Pours murky brown limited head and lacing. Notes are plums, dried raisins, earthy bbitterness maybe some grapefruit pith. Taste medium sweet medium bitter. Full creamy body lively carbonation.
3.7 a good and tasty showcase for British hops doing special ops operations. Dangerously drinkable.
4.0 Bottlw shared at home. Pours copper with off white head. Nose is resinous hops, sweet booze, caramel, nuts. Taste is warming, sweet booze, some honey, caramel and bitterish hops. Medium to heavy body, soft to average carbo. Pretty much like a bw/strong ale, but quite tasty nevertheless.
4.2 Bottle: Hazy, ruby-amber coloured, medium-sized stable and creamy off-white head, solid sweet-bitter fruity, toasty and caramelly nose, not too distinctive peppery British hops underneath; solid sweet-bitter flavour, surely full bodied; slightly drier bitter-sweet lingering finish of caramelly-toasty malt, raisins and herbal-british hops in the aftertaste. Great brew! A Double IPA of its own right! The right drop for those, who are not keen on odd "craft-beer" creations...
4.2 Not a real IPA fan. But this is the best I've tasted. Little pricey, worth it on occasion. Hops is not overpowering.
4.0 500 ml bottle in cardboard box, from Best of Beers, Denmark. ABV is 10.5%. Cloudy and very dark brown colour, probably the darkest IPA I've seen (except black IPAs, of course). Moderate to small off-white to beige head. Aroma of over-ripe red berries, jam, piney and earthy hops. The flavour is medium sweet and distinctly hoppy, notes of jam / marmalade, piney and earthy hops again. Slightly warming mouthfeel. Impressive.
