Fuller's Imperial Stout (10.7%)

Fuller's Imperial Stout (10.7%)

Mainly bottle conditioned; Special. Has been seen on cask.

This limited edition brew is a unique collaboration between brewery and beer writer. Melissa Cole brought her vast experience to the tasting table and helped us deliver a stout worth writing home about.

Brewed in the traditional style that became a favourite royal court, this limited edition Imperial Stout has been specially created as a single brew. In a unique addition to the historic recipe, the floral character of the Centennial hops is enhanced by the inclusion of rose buds, lending a hint of Turkish delight flavour to the beer. This Imperial Stout has a rich, dark appearance with strong chocolate and deep cherry notes which lead to a lighter, bitter finish.

4.4 500ml bottle from Waitrose, bb 31/12/2029 Jet black, tan head. Nose - coffee & chocolate first, marzipan and cherries later. Taste - chocolate, cherries, bit of roasted malt. Nice.
4.0 Bottle shared at home with my dad, after cellaring it for over a year. Nose is intense malty, showing notes of chocolate, booze, light coffee, smoke, dried fruits and licorice. Taste is molasses, sweet booze chocolate and light smokyness with a hint coffee and roasted malts. Closes with a sweet, sticky boozy chocolate finish, medium to heavy body and soft carbo. Solid non-adjunct RIS.
4.3 Surprisingly an imperial Stout that smells like syrup and flowers. After a couple of sips, it tastes more like sour cherry and less than cocoa or chocolate that someone would expect from a stout. Moderate bitter aftertaste.
4.6 Looks: black with very low, tan head. Aroma: coffee, chocolate, smoke, tar, light liqourice, light prune. Taste: bitter. Low carbonated.
4.3 Sweetness with cherry notes
3.1 Good taste, not af strong as I Hoped. The chochlate is there, but the cherry isent so mutch in play before a few sips.
4.2 Bottle from Waitrose, West Byfleet I think. Rich aroma - a mixture of dark chocolate, berries, coffee and a vinous edge. Dark and glossy. Creamy beige head. Initial creaminess which is then followed a medium bitterness. Liqourice and coffee, with roast. Underlying berry sourness. Burnt sugar sweetness throughout. And booze which makes itself known into the finish. Thick bodied. Creamy. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long astringent finish. Lovely multifaceted stuff. 2018 brew I think.
5.0 Pours a dark brown colour with a white frothy head Notes of roasted coffee and cocoa nibs with hints of Turkish delight
4.2 500ml bottle from Waitrose (bought in 2016) - Thick opaque black body, solid tan head. Nose is sweet liquorice, dark ripe fruit. Taste has a nice rounded balance, warm booze feel, oily mouthfeel. Matured well.
4.2 Dark, opaque, tan beerhead, ok retention. The flavor is licorice, coffee, burnt, dark chocolate, woody, spices and dark caramel, strong sweetness, soft carbonation, mild bitterness, mild touch.
4.4 A bottle purchased at Denman Liquor in Vancouver. An inky liquid with a bit of beige head and a roasted malt nose. Wow, this a treat on the palate! Silky smooth, syrupy sweet, suggestive of both coffee and cocoa, yet has neither, according to the listed description. Low bitterness, just a trace on the finish. Yum! On the description notes, though .. rosebuds? Really? Cherry notes? Really? I suspect a bit of poetic license here. 😉
Nuty owocowe i likierowe w tle. Ciało średnie do wysokiego. Piwo ma teksturę gładką, miękką, a nawet nieco oleistą. Posmak dość długi kawowo czekoladowy.
3.7 How: bottle. Best before: 2024. (Bought: 2016.) Head: off white, light tan. Two fingers. Colour: almost black. Aroma: soy sauce, smoke, ash, campfire, coffee, light herbal notes Taste: medium body, soft carbonation, soy sauce, campfire, caramel, warm. Long campfire& coffee aftertaste.
3.6 50cl bottle. Pours close to pitch black with a moderate, beige head. Roasty aroma with chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and hints of coffee and hops. Sweet and smooth with warming alcohol and a pleasantly bitter finish. Certainly decent (BBE 2024)
4.0 Bottle. Pitch black, medium beige head, ok lasting. Mild chocolate nose, caramel, actually a bit grassy. Slight roastiness, some wood, more dry fruits and more chocolate later on. Mild sweetness, slight chocolate, quite roasted. Medium bitterness. Medium full body, quite silky. Some vanilla later on, slight alcohol warmth.
4.4 Bottle from Waitrose, bought maybe a year ago. I’ve had some really bad impy stouts this year, which is quite disappointing as making this style bad should be virtually impossible. Fortunately this is quite excellent, well balanced mixture of dark malts with roasty and sweet treacly notes coming together well with a touch of booze in there too, nice balance of bitterness, some hop flavour with pine and wood, and a touch of something spicy which I guess was from the rosebuds.
3.9 Pours with a small dense tan head over a black body. Aroma-taste of dark bread crust, molasses and a touch of chocolate, coffee and currants. Better-sweet body and finish. Medium bodied with modest carbonation.
4.2 Ø
4.3 Tastes of chocolate, plums, prunes & dark cherries. Pours black with medium brown head. Smells of similar dark fruits. Light alcohol considering it's ABV. Delicious and worth the cost.
3.9 500ml bottle, bought 2017. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, plum, raisin, chocolate. Taste is rich, sweet, dark fruits, plum, raisin, cherry, chocolate, roast malts, boozy finish. Medium body.
3.9 Optisch schöner cremiger Cappuccino-Schaum. In der Nase röstig, dunkle Schokolade. Im Trunk ausgesprochen würzig, Pfeffer, Kirschen, alkoholisch, sehr spannend. Kein Imperial der gewöhnlichen Art. Spät im Abgang Schokolade.
3.5 Sweet caramel, booze, soy and dark fruits. Taste is caramel, pine, soy and carbon.
3.9 Flasche 0,5l: Schwarz, kräftige Trübung, mäßig stabiler beiger mittelporiger Schaum; sehr würzige Nase, kräftige Süße, Malz, Malzzucker, viel dunkles Karamell, dezente Hopfennoten, dunkle/eingelegte Früchte; sehr würziger Körper, kräftige Süße, Malz, Malzzucker, viel dunkles Karamell, cremig, deutliche Kohlensäure, dezente Hopfennoten, dunkle/eingelegte Früchte, Röstaromen, Kaffee, leicht nussig, deutlich Alkohol; angenehmer süßer würziger Nachgang
3.9 A: Almost pitch black with a thin beige head. N: Plums, dates, liquorice. T: Caramel, dark roast, plums, chocolate mousse. P: Full O: Absolutely excellent!
