Funkwerks Saison

Funkwerks Saison

The beer you are holding is unique. A special strain of yeast and a warm fermentation produces a beer of exceptional flavor and aroma. An extended secondary maturation and bottle conditioning ensures all these unique qualities are preserved and evolve over time. Serve at 50°F in a tulip glass.

What to expect

This tawny orange beer pours with a rocky white head. Aromas of passion fruit, tangerine, and black pepper hit the nose. Flavor is a cascade of orange, lemon verbena, ginger and pepper. And in a second it is gone, finishing with a dry and lingering bitterness that awaits another sip.

4.2 Pour from a bottle is a hazy orange. Spicy fruit flavor with a nice dough aroma. Bread malts are strong and the yeast is dominant. Light and surprisingly dry. Thin textured with a quick bitter finish. Great twist on this style.
3.5 Light cloudy copper with a white head. Aroma is wheat, Belgian yeast, white pepper, and light banana. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium body, slick with average carbonation.
4.1 On draft at 21st Street Brewers Bar Aroma 8 /10: hay and classic saison yeast Appearance 4 /5: clear golden straw colored with frothy head Palate 3 /5: robust mouthfeel but not as highly carbonated as I would prefer for this style Taste 9/10: yeasty, coriander and citrus undertones. Finishes with strong wild yeast flavor. Overall 17 /20: clean and fresh tasting Saison, easy drinking, probably best when not sitting out as long if you're into carbonation like me. Final: 4.1
3.5 Nice lacing on glass had on tap at Sycamore in Columbia, MO. Nice funky somewhat yeasty aroma and clean cereal flavor with low sweetness. Moderate bitter finish. Hazy yellow.
3.4 Bottle shared at Old Brotopia UWS with Andrew, Brendan and Paul. Pours a golden orange body with thin white lace. Nose is spicy orange, grapefruit, yeast and soft funk. Mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with notes of bright yeast, grapefruit rind, dough, funk and wheat.
3.7 330ml bottle. Pours an unclear straw yellow with a two inch white head that slowly collapses. Taste is of yeast, wheat, fruit, citrus, coriander, clove and spice. Similar, yet clean aroma. Has a decent body with a slightly spicy finish. Overall, quite nice.
3.8 Pour is a hazy orange with a large white head. Aroma is a big yeast ester with some peaches and oranges. Flavor is very fruity and floral with a nice pepper to give of some herbal essence. Very flavorful and damn near spot on for the style. Maybe a bit more fruity then the Belgian saisons but that is not a complaint.
3.5 I had this at Flying Saucer. Pours gold with a white head. Taste bread, floral, mildly sweet. I thought this was good. I would drink this again.
3.9 Bottled September 26th 2017, right on the label of the 11.2 ounce bottle. Their dating system rocks! Pours a slightly hazy straw gold with a 2 finger head of foam to start, shrinks to a fine layer with good lacing. Smells of Belgian yeast, has notes of white pepper, cloves, coriander, sweet from I presume candi sugar. Nice. Bit of funk. Cloves, pepper, coriander, candi sugar, hop bitterness, earthy malt, very light with the Brett. Tasty. Light side of medium bodied, adequate carbonation, fairly dry finish. This is yummy.
4.2 On tap at Craft Beer Cellar in Clayton Aroma 7/10: Pleasant but faint. Some yeasty funk with a little hay. Appearance 4/5: slight haze with an off white head. Started thick, and faded into a thin layer. Palate 5/5: Good amount of carbonation and relatively full bodied for the style. Taste 9/10: This isn't exactly a revolutionary take on the saison, but it is definitely a solid, traditional tasting beer. Really impressed with how easy it drinks for a beer that's nearly 7% Overall 17/20: See above. 4.2
3.4 11.2floz bottle, BOD: 12.04.2017, $2 single, tulip glass. A hazy gold beer with a very small amount of head. Aroma is a like a field of hay sprinkled with beery a yeast perfume (I get it, don't care about you). Drinks fine. High on the hay flavor with fairly stronger wildflower essence. Goes down pretty filling moderate carbonation. Standard Belgian-esque front, middle, and end. Decent.
2.9 Gold pour, small white head. Aroma of bananas, yeast and spices. Taste is spicy and yeasty but a bit thin and harsh. Disappointing!
3.8 Bottle. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of banana, saison yeast funk, and bubblegum. Tastes fruity, funky and super yeasty. Medium bodied.
3.8 On tap at the Raven Cafe, Prescott, AZ. Pours hazy yellow golden with dense white head. Fruity, citrus, lemon, yeasty, funk, bit spicy. Light to moderate sweetness. Medium bodied.
3.6 Nice citrusy brew here. Had it in the middle of a heat wave and was the most refreshing beer I ever had. Reminds me of Leinie’s Summer Shandy but not as much lemon. Will try more saisons because of this beer.
3.6 Bottle I picked up on Rakuten on sale. A soft lightly cloudy gold with a fizzy eggshell white head fills my tulip by disappears leaving only film of white behind. The aroma is horse blanket, hay, funk and a bit of bretty pineapple. The light ultra-dry body gives you soda bread, banana, pineapple, wheat, funk and hay. A tasty saison on this sweltering July day.
3.0 Pours a light amber from a bottle, thick head. Lemony aroma, similar flavor with a nice bread dough aspect, some white pepper. Light, not interesting but not offensive. Good beer.
2.8 Flight at the source during ck1 birthday trip. Shrug? Light. No real distinct character to this one. Some butter. They have waaaaay better ones. 11.5
3.2 Sweet aroma with taste to match. Almost a sweet Belgian blonde. No funk or sourness. Sweetness makes this one rather one-dimensional.
3.7 Cloudy golden orange with a white head. Tropical notes, spice, earth, light coriander, sweet bright fruit. Really nice saison.
3.6 Florals and good balance. Orange pour with good head and lacing. Sweet finish like Stanley Cup win. Nice balance. Bottle.
3.5 Cloudy gold with a pillowy white head. Spicy, citrusy aroma. Balanced flavor of fruit and spice, not tart. Dry finish.
3.0 Tap. Aroma and taste of a wheat beer. Some slight citrus and pepper on the nose. In my humble opinion, I don’t think this is a good representation of a Saison style.
3.8 Gold with a white head. Nose is dry, earth, funk, grass and herbs. Smooth palate, earth, herbs, florals, spices, and dry finish.
3.7 On tap. Pours clouded straw gold, good white head. Aroma of peach, bubblegum, floral and yeast funk. Taste of same with some lemon zest, earth, soap and soda water. Mouthfeel is mod for style with heavy carb. Almost that of seltzer. Finish is slightly funky for style. Expected more yeast influence for style. More hop bitter in finish.
3.3 Tap @ Angels Trumpet Ale House: Cloudy gold with a fresh yeast aroma. Banana peels. Smooth flavor and true saison instead of the popular sour/saison mix.
3.4 Very straight forward Saison. Doesn’t have the quality or character of a Fantome or Dupont. If this is their top offering I see no need to delve further in to their line up. Solid beer, but there are many, many better examples.
4.0 Very sweet hoppy. Very forward French yeast. Smooth enjoyable. Tangy. Smooth wow.
3.4 Tap at Imazato. Big sweet fruity, peachy nose, with some honey notes. Dark amber/straw color. Thick sweet peach, moderate bittering. The bittering seems a bit much for this style. Medium body. Tasty, but overall a bit too heavy and sweet -- not cloying exactly, but a bit much.
3.3 Tap at Imazato. Deep gold, hazy, with lace. Nose of peaches, grains, light citrus. Grainy flavor, lemon / grapefruit, light funk. Sweet and a bit heavy and thick. Not so impressive.
