Funky Buddha Hop Gun IPA

Funky Buddha Hop Gun IPA

"You can be my wingman anytime." -Iceman

In a veritable sea of India Pale Ales, what does it take to leap out from the rest? To us, the answer is Hop Gun IPA. Lift a pint – from first sniff to last sip, our flagship IPA drinks like an ode to hoppy goodness. Galena, Cascade, and Nelson Sauvin hops burst forth with an unmistakably heady aroma. Flavors of grapefruit, honey, melon, and pineapple mingle with a malt body that balances caramel and biscuit character with a pronounced dry finish.

Pairing Suggestions: Washed rind cheeses, chipotle chicken wings, Thai red curry, hoisin-glazed roast duck, Moroccan-spiced lamb chops, fresh-baked cherry pie.

3.4 Poured copper color with a 1.5" head which provided some lacing. Taste and aroma of citrus and pine, some light sweeter fruit or malt in the background. Pretty good!
2.9 Can. Deep gold/amber body with a frothy white head. Light aroma of grapefruit, orange, toasted grain, caramel. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Not much aroma, light on flavor. Judging by the name, you'd think the hops would be assertive.
3.2 A very pedestrian IPA. Had it while watching fireworks in Myrtle Beach. That certainly improved it. Wouldn't avoid or seek it out.
3.4 VEry interesting but quite strong in bitterness. Well brewed and nice aroma of hops in there.
3.5 2019/05/14 - Pours a lightly hazy copper/burnt orange colour with a soapy, off white head that quickly dissipates and leaves no lacing. Aroma is lots of pine with caramel, citrus, light tropical fruits and herbal tea-like notes. Taste is citrus rind, caramel, herbal notes and ample resin. Mouthfeel is medium with sharp carbonation and an herbal, drying finish.
3.6 Tap @ Loew's South Beach - After long week of show running - Nicely balanced with more malt framework then expected. Fresh, clean. Slightly more tropical fruit hop - not in your face hoppy.
3.6 0,33l can from Total Wine & More, Miami Beach. First touch with this famous brewery. Clear copper beer with medium white head. Aroma has hops and pine. Taste has hops, pine, citrus fruits and caramel. Medium+ body. Good one, as was expected!
3.8 Finally got to try some Funky Buddha. Been trying to get to the brewery the rare times I make it South FL, but usually just hit Due South instead since it's right off the highway. Still haven't made it to the brewery, but found this on tap at Swank Southern Kitchen. A smooth IPA with some good flavor, but could be a little hoppier and/or a little maltier. Decent balance as well, just not sure I'd quite call this a West Coast style. More representative of the toned-done East Coast IPAs. Had a Cigar City Jai Alai right after and that was packing a bit more flavor. I didn't know that this ABV was 7.7%, so that's a plus.
3.7 Can while swimming in Key West pool. Good Hop aroma right off the bat. Taste of mixed fruit, pine, dank and citrus hops. Alcohol hidden well, enjoyable.
3.6 Clear copper with a white head. Aroma is sweet citrus fruit and pine. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter.
3.4 Can from Total Wine in Fort Myers. Filled 5 months ago. A one finger cap covers the amber darkness. Disappointing blunt aroma. Hops are deep resin & pine. Very throaty. Very gentle mouthfeel. With some more nuance — in both the aroma & the hopping — this could be more distinct. Still, it’s a good bitter ipa.
3.9 Just a beautiful pour, very orange and clear, huge offwhite head and a lot of sparkle. Has a spicy hop aroma, a little bit of sweetness from the malt, a richness to the hop aroma. Really nice palate of hops, carbonation, and a bit of body for balance from the sweet malt, easy to drink and a lot of hop character.
3.4 À dark amber ipa with a thin white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with grassy floral hops, light mineral notes, light treacle, very nice. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with grassy floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light tropical fruits, very nice. On tap at La Bodega, St Petersburg.
3.5 Pours amber with a thick white head. Aroma of coriander and fruit. Taste is hoppy with a sweet malt backbone. Palate includes coriander, guava, tropical fruits and hops. Certainly this beer deserves its reputation.
3.0 Found from can from Ingles in Clayton, GA. Nice gold color with thick foam. Decent flavors. It's one of the heavier sitting iPAs I've had.
3.7 On tap at Fishbones in Lake Mary, FL. Half hazy orange pour with white head. Aroma and taste of tropical fruits including mango. Medium oily mouthfeel. Noted bitterness on the finish.
3.0 Pint at sparkys landing key marathon. Too clovey for my tastes. Also getting some passion fruit and pineapple. I was after something more resinous.
3.9 Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/27/2018. Over carbonated, and took some time to pour. Pours lightly hazy golden orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with amazing retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of lemon, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper/pine, toasted bread, light honey/caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, toasted bread, light honey/caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, toasted bread, light honey/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is a delicious IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the moderately bitter/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Great Galena, Cascade, and Nelson Sauvin profile. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness from crisp dryness. Would love to try it at regular carb. Could not detect much/if any Brett, so it was fine otherwise. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example.
3.6 Pours an amber color. Fruity floral hop aroma and taste. Quite smooth. Notes: on tap at at The Red Door, Destin FL Jul ‘18
3.6 12 oz can; clear, amber color; citrusy, piney hop aroma; citrusy, piney hops on a medium bodied, bready malt base; dry, bitter finish
3.7 Go to beer when I’m thirsty and visiting Boca Raton. Slightly hazy amber, white head. Aroma is citrus, touch dank. Flavour is nicely balanced, medium carbonation, nice mouthfeel. You wouldn’t pick it from the list in a great beer bar (although you may choose a Funky Buddha porter), but it does a good job.
3.3 Appearance: Medium amber. Slightly hazy. Finger of white bubbles. Nose: Bitter pine and grapefruit zest. Medium caramel malt. Taste: Bitter pine and grapefruit that trends a little tropical mid to finish. Good juicy and bitter. Body: Medium bodied. Active carbonation. Parting thoughts: Tasty and juicy. A drinkable IPA with a fun name. Took a chance on a six of this on vacation. Was not disappointed.
3.6 12 oz bottle poured, and shared at the Nacho Truck. Sent over by Jow. Thanks! Golden orange pour, tons of thick foam head. Thicker body, some melon like hop character. Orange, grapefruit, soft bitter finish. A well made IPA here. Always a treat to find a beer from these guys.
3.5 From tap at Hopjack's Pizza Kitchen & Taproom, Pensacola. Fruity and piney aroma with malt, grapefruit, and resin. Mild sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium. Classic piney IPA, pretty enjoyable.
3.6 Pours clear amber with silky white head. Aroma is sweet malty citrus with a faint tartness. Flavor is sweet and malty with a light citrus bite.
3.2 Amber with off white head. Malty, caramel nose with some hops. Overall pretty malty with some bitterness. Not bad...but with a name like hop gun expecting more hops.
3.5 Bottled from Modica, Golden pour with citrus nose, flavor of refined citrus and thick caramel, heavier finish
3.7 Sampler at the source. Bitter aggressive old school hops. A little fruity mid palate.
3.8 A very good IPA. Very well balanced with a nice pine character. Grapefruit finish and a lingering sweetness. Tried in Florida in 2018.
3.6 Deep amber with an off white head. Nose is bitter hops, light fruit, fresh. Nice palate, fruity hops, light malt, easy finish.
