Furthermore Fatty Boombalatty

Furthermore Fatty Boombalatty

The conception and naming of this beer happened in one fell swoop. Unsure whether to offer a light session beer or a fun ball-buster as our warm weather seasonal, we decided on a beer that would be “a big, fatty boombalatty” version of a Belgian white. And away we went, taking a recipe for a white beer and ramping up the grain bill by 50%; we dropped the amount of wheat by 75% to keep the beer rough around the edges. We bucked tradition by steering the bitterness in the direction of a pale ale, and coupling hops with coriander in the fermenter. The resulting beer gives you all the bubblegum goodness of a big Belgian, with enough crispness to cut through the sweet profile, thus making you want to sip it again and again. Dangerous, indeed!

3.3 My bottle had an extra thick layer of yeast and gushed a bit on opening but a careful pour yields a slightly cloudy orange beer with a voluminous and long-lasting head of small bubbles. This tastes as much like a big, juicy hefeweizen as it does a Belgian blond--- not that these styles are night and day. The nose is pretty mild with bread yeast and some grassy hop notes but this is one be where the motel really makes it come alive. It is creamy and just on the edge of overcarbonated which, along with some acidity, brings out the fruity character from the yeast. The finish though is unfortunately overly bitter which ends up making it taste a bit metallic. I think this is almost there but could use some polishing.
4.5 Bottle purchased and poured into tulip glass. Very little head on a deep orange hued ale. Actually a very attractive beer. Aroma has a lot sugar and fruit to it. Plenty of banana and even a little tropical fruit. Really easy to drink. The sweetness carries throughout tip to finish. An enjoyable beer to drink with a soft, Belgian finish. The type of ale you can drink an absurd amount of at St. Paul summer beer festivals.
3.9 Aroma is Belgian yeast, bubblegum and malts. The flavor is lemons, fruit, mild sweetness, malts and a mix of mild alcohol and tangy in the finish.
3.7 Cloudy off amber pour small white dense very well laced head. Cloves wheat lemon zest and a hint of alcohol. Well coated palate. Finish is slightly sweet aftertaste is a bit dry and lingering spices white pepper notes. A good beer just a weird style interpretation
3.6 Deep Hazy Yellow Color, Huge Long Lasting Frothy Head, Some Lacing. Nice and strong aroma Peppery Coriander. Belgian Yeast. Taste about the same: Coriander, Orange, Belgian Yeast, Slightly Sweet, Peppery, Spices, Light Bitter Finish. Medium Body. Pleasant Surprise. Hides High ABV Well. Enjoyed It. Nice. Recommended.
3.8 Pours a hazy medium orange. Medium fluffy white head. Fruity, citrus, orange, apricot, banana, Belgian yeast, coriander, clove, wheat. Some peppery spiciness, balanced moderate sweetness with fair bitter and dry finish. Medium body. Crisp. A solid, well-made beer.
3.4 yeasty, citrus, orange, a little banana, coriander. Taste has a little bitter spice in it, slightly bitter and dry finish.
3.3 Decent belguim style beer. Nice orange peel and coriander palate. Some yeast and bread flavors also noticable
2.6 The beer pours a nice golden with a hint of orange. Hazy. White, rocky, two finger head. The aroma is huge phenolic notes from the yeast. A bit bubblegummy. The taste is a little astringent. Almost a little sour from the wheat. Bready malt notes, phenolic notes from the yeast, more bubblegum. Something that wants to be peppery notes but just isn’t. Tastes like there is a hop presence. Maybe a hint of hop citrus or grassiness. A bit of coriander on the finish maybe. The beer is medium light and the alcohol is slightly present. Not terrible, not amazing, something nice though.
3.2 Bottle->SA. Hazy orange/gold with huge frothy white head. Effervescent, high carbonation. A: strong Belgian spices and yeast, citrus. T: citrus, wheat, yeast, coriander. Somethhing odd and a tad unpleasant in here.
3.3 Pours oragnish yellow with white head. Nose has the typical belgian spicyness. Taste has the belgian spice and soem citrus, orange peel hopiness. Very smooth palate and very easy drinking.
3.6 Bottle shared by Beerpig317. Poured hazy dark amber with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex balanced aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Solid balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a smooth complex beer.

3.6 12oz bottle, shared by beerpig317. Mostly hazy, golden - orange color. Thin off-white head. Couple dots of lace. Aroma of caramel malt and ripe pineapple. Good, citrus-zesty finish. Lighter belgian candy sugar, but it’s there as well. Good moderate sweet taste, light bitter. Bigger, more full body. Lighter, smooth, kind of crisp carbonation. Satisfying, lightly funky belgian yeast flavor. Good belgian strong.
3.1 Bottle to taster (thanks Bunker). Looks solid; a hazy orange with off-white lacing. Smells yeasty and spicy. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Eh.

3.2 From tap at Republic. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is estery and fruity. Light toasted malty. Estery to phenolic. Mild herbal, estery and light spiced. Bitter and dry finish.
3.3 Draft on tap at Dotty’s (Madison, WI). Birthday/VDay Dinner with the missus. Pours a murky hazed amber pour, darker in body with some gentle glow, orange gold, some homemade applesauce. Cakey white head films well, laces ok. Aromas are gentle sweetness, pear and apple, kisses of yeasty and a gentle clove. Mellow honey sweetness, touches of melon, doughy malts. Touches of bubblegum, pear, and gentle doughy grainy malts. Mellow Belgian yeast influence on the nose. Initial shows a lighter end of medium bodied, touches of sweeter bubblegum, dough, and fruit waft into the fold. Touches of coriander, mellow Belgian yeast, touches of citrus dance in. Clove and coriander mix, coriander hitting the palate better as we get further in. Gentle bubblegum, dryness as we move back. Some grassiness, mellow yeast, touches of spice, gentle apple and dry grainy malts. Loses some of that sweetness as we move past the middle, hits with just a touch of heat to let you know this beer is a bit bigger than you may have expected. Overall, not usually a style I relish. This seems well constructed though and certainly hit the spot for me this evening. Solid.
3.4 A hazed amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a smooth fruity ale with tropical fruits, bananas, cloves, classic. In mouth, a smooth fruity malt with citrus, mango, peaches, alcohol warmth, nice and smooth. On tap at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 19 2012.

3.4 Bottle. Pours a clear golden color with small white head. Rather weak malty, hay aroma. Malty, alcohol, apricot, coriander, and spicy flavors. For a strong belgian, this is a pretty nice sessionable belgian. I could see myself knocking back a few of these.
3.2 draft. hazed orange. heavy sugared banana nose. baked multigrain bread. orange and lemon juice. medium-full body. medium acid, low bitterness, highly sweet. mildly yeasty / muddy / doughy. orange juice citrus acid finish. estery, yeasty, sugary, banana and apricot dominant.
