3.7 Bottle. Dark amber with small tan head. Aroma of malt, dried fruits, caramel, smoke. Taste, malt, caramel, dried fruits, biscuts, smoke. ALcohol is well hidden. Good.
3.7 Bottle, courtesy of SinH4. Thanks Stefan! Bubble off-white head on a dark red-brown body. Roasty breadcrust, strawberry, grains, blackberry, caramel sauce. Medium to sticky sweetness, mineralic, medium bitterness. Thick round body, decent, laid back carbonation. Tasty, super nice balance if it wasn't for the high sweetness - an easy trade for the alcohol, which just does not show. Except for the warming feeling it leaves in your chest.
3.4 At Tom's Place, pours brown with a beige head, aroma of smoke, caramel, smoked fish, flavor is sweet with wood, smoked fish, caramel, vanilla, medium bodied
4.0 Leicht trübes Bernstein mit durchschnittlicher Schaumkrone. Malzig, süßlich, Honig, ölig, rauchig, Speck, würzig, Leder, herb, leicht alkoholisch.
2.9 Pours very dark brown, unclear, caramelly. Nearly no head, looks very flat. Smell is smoked, but refined, almost sharp ( like metallic). Not as bombastic as other smoked's. Taste is sharp, smoked, very fleshy, good body, very remote bitter touch. Ham, very much so. Balanced brew. Unfortunately, I'll never be the biggest smoke fan. I have to admit this is a great brew tho.
3.5 Refrigerated 33 cL brown bottle poured into a glass. Opaque copper with small off-white head. Aroma is smoke, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is smoke and caramel malt.
3.0 11.2 oz bottle from State Line, best before date of 12 OKT 2018. Nose pure, intense beechwood smoke, but this one is a little darker, as if I'm to expect a stout or heavier chocolate malt. Pour a beautiful caramel color, tawny and ruby edges, collects to more of a muddy brown, and surprisingly, there's no head whatsoever. Taste strongly sweet, lots of caramel and malt, low-level bitterness throughout but fairly negligible, and smoke that went unnoticed at first until gradually growing back up to medium. Grape character in the malt, swirling with smoke and green/vegetal, yeast. Full body but not heavy, very well integrated alcohol with a little heft but no burn, no carbonation to speak of, essentially flat save for the hiss upon crown removal. Floral character and old hops, touch perfumed, splash of citrus here and there, most of this pronounced in the long finish and back of the mouth in general. This is a muddled mess (mostly caramel and yeast) and goes against all of Andreas' best works, which have a constant clarity of flavor despite their boldness. [2018.08.27: 3.0]
3.3 Tap @ Mig & Ølsnedkeren. Bavaria #999. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are rich smoke, little ashes, caramel, hops and malt. Nice smoky finish.
3.9 Draught @ Mig & Ølsnedkeren, Aarhus. Pours hazy ruby with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of smoke, with touches of malt and hints of yeast. Bitter flavour of hops, with pronounced notes of smoke and touches of malt and yeast. Hoppy and smoky aftertaste. Well-balanced and really tasty.
3.5 27/7/2018. Draught at Mig & Ølsnedkeren, Aarhus. Pours mid brown with an off-white to beige head. Aroma of deeply smoked meats, cheese, toffee. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness and body. Oily texture, soft carbonation.
3.9 Tap @Mig&lsnedkeren. Cloudy brown, thick offwhite head. Woody, smoky aroma, slightly meaty. Sweet, smoky flavour. Caramely, malty. Quite sweet actually.
3.5 Tap @ Mig & Ølsnedkeren, 9.6%. Hazy dark amber with small tan head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toasted, smoke, meat and dark fruit. Flavoru is malt, caramel, toasted, smoke, smoke, smoke, meat, little dark fruit, medium sweet and a medium bitter.
3.9 Beautiful, continuous light foam crown and an all-over-smoked aroma. Even at a distance, I can smell the bartender pouring this smoke beer into the glass. It is brewed with 95% smoke malt, so this is not a smoke beer for beginners. At first it has a little dark caramel malt and a sweetness that reminds of dried fruit. Next, the smoke flavor will quickly add to the other shades and take the taste buds completely. Alcohol is up to 9.6%, but it is well kept away from the smoke. So it's a good warming strong beer with a little bit of hoppy aftertaste, with the smoke flavor still hanging and leaving long aftertaste.
3.7 Pours ruby red with small head. Aroma: dried fruit, bonfire smoke. Taste: a perfect balance between the smokiness and the dried fruit, leaving a nicely bitter palate full of flavor. ABV is sligthly warming but overall well hidden. A very thought through beer. Nice sipper.
4.3 Score: 8 / 4 / 9 / 4 / 18 330 ml bottle, bb 12.10.18. Dark copper body, with a small, creamy, beige head. Aroma of smoked wood, chocolate, toffee, dried fruits, quite a lot of fruity hops, fruit tea, dark bread, some dark honey. Tastes very lovely, quite similar, but even richer, with a dense, creamy character of smooth dark malts, smoke and hops. Medium, oily mouthfeel, with a low carbonation. Finishes very smooth, medium smokey, medium sweet, a bit roasty, a bit warm, wooden, with chocolate, toffee, fruity hops, slight toast. Amazing! So creamy and rich, although quite smokey, there is so much going on, with a broad, endlessly smooth, chocolatey malt body and suprising amounts of fruity hops. This has the density of an Imperial Stout, but a much better drinkability at the same time, outstanding balance. Really took me by surprise, I'm not the biggest smoke beer fan usually, but this is just delicious!
3.8 330ml bottle. Clear mahogany body with a sparse off white head. Intense, sweet smokey aroma. Full bodied, modest carbonation. Huge smokey malty taste. Good.
3.9 Bottle at the source courtesy of Andreas, thank you sir! Dark brown color beige head. Burnt charred aroma. Taste is lightly meaty and smoky, subtle maple. Delicious.
3.9 330mL from International Beer Collector 9.6% BB 09.06.18 Pours a hazy bronze body with beige head. BOOM! Smoke city! Bacon, salami, bbq wood chips, rich caramel, touch of cocoa, dates. Body is luscious, thick, syrupy - wow - lovely texture, lingering sticky - like the chewy bits you get off something that's been smoked. And it just rolls with the punches - palate is sweet upfront; bags of brown caramel, dates & sultanas, counteracted with huge smokey smallgoods, bbq'd white meat, sort of sulfury in a good way, complex - so intense, its lingers, has a tannin/astrigency of its own but enough body & richness to soak it up. One of the best smoked beers I've ever tried - fantastic!
3.9 @Bierkeller Au Trappiste - hazy reddish-brown beer with a little foam left; solid aroma of smoked bacon, nuts and red fruits below; creamy palate, full-bodied, thick, tasty and lively palate; earthy and smoky finish of flowers, bacon and nuts; fairly sweet; some warming alcohol notes
4.1 Bottle from Sugaya. Thick smoky nose, wood, bacon, dark fruit, cherries, and caramel. Hazy dark reddish brown color, no head. Dark fruit, then a lightly salty and soked meat note. Some alcohol presence in mid palate. Also, some honey, ash, and maybe tar. Medium body, oily, thick, smooth and warming. The smokiness dominates, but it also has more maltiness and complexity of flavors than most smoked beers. Quite an alc. buzz, too. Thick, rich, and somewhat balanced, overall. Stellar stuff, even from a bottle.
3.7 330ml Bottle - Copper with a haze and a small head. Beech, ash, smoked ham, sultanas and dates in the aroma. Smooth and slightly sweet taste with marzipan, ash, caramel, berries and raisins. The taste is a lot less smoky than the aroma but I personally feel it only adds to the drinkability.
4.0 Flaska från Boxbeer drucken med ölföreningen. Smak och doft av rök, torv, chark, bröstkaramell med mängder av maltsötma. Kraftful och stabil, fin sötma och rökighet. Bra balans och beska. Mycket gott!
3.8 Bottle from Boxbeers. Hazy brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark fruit and heavy smoked meat. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. Oily and soft. 201119
3.9 33cl Bottle @ Zombier, Malaga, Spain Dark amber colour with a medium size white head. Aroma is malt, smoked ham. Taste is malt, caramel, smoked ham, hints of nuts. Full body, average carbonation.
3.9 33cl bottle at cerveteca lisboa. Dark copper brown. Thin beige head. Taste is medium bitter. Medium body. Aroma and flavour is smoke, wood, sausage, chocolate, cherries, toffee, peach.
4.1 Dark coppery color, almost brown; light beige head that quickly dissapears. Aroma has notes of meat, toasted malts and burnt caramel. Flavor with a high presence of smoked notes, sweet malts, smoked meat. Bitterness in the final with sweet notes as well, really impresive beer.
3.5 On tap at Cafe Abseits, Bamberg, 3.10.17. Almost opaque dark red with a white head. Smoky aroma with notes of tropical fruit hoppiness. Smoky taste followed by caramel sweetness. Full body, nice smoky whiff in the finish, lively carbonation. A bit too sweet for me.
Riktigt gott.
3.7 On tap @ BBF 2017. Amber with a medium off white head. Malty and smokey tones. malt, fruit, smoke and bitterness. Full body with a long bitter / malty finish.
