Garage Project Pernicious Weed

Garage Project Pernicious Weed

The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

3.8 Clear golden pour. Can tropical fruit and pine nose. Flavour dominated by a massive whack of resiny bitterness, there's undertones of passionfruit/mango, but mostly it's about the bitterness. Flavour lingers like a mouthful of grass. If you like bitterness try this.
3.5 A reminder that intensely hopped and high alcohol doesn’t mean you’re in for a tough time, like that pit bull chasing you through the park; maybe it just wants a pat, you just need to be brave and have a go.
4.3 A favourite 'New World' IPA. A big, bitter beer with hops for days that's a sneaky 8%. But too much? More like just right.
3.5 Bitter throughout bubbly little foam. Good for in between sweet beers
4.0 Utseende uklar orange med hvitt skum. Aroma og smak sitrus aprikos humle malt. Fyldig og bitter. Flaske på Humle og Bier 2019
3.5 A pineapple in your mouth!
3.4 Vanilla coconut notes, hoppy character
4.0 I know what a Garage Project is. I know what Weeds are. I have no idea what a Pernicious is, who he is, or what he wants. But he seems a good bloke. Nope. Googled it, turns out he’s a harmful bloke. Still like it but.
3.2 Aged / older sample - bold bitter hop. Marine diesel notes. Caramelised apples/vanilla coconuts with a punch to boot
3.5 Very full bodied, huge mouth feel..still does have good balance
4.2 Wow hops for days, incredibly tantalising with deep developed flavours pinging all around. Super super bitter from start till end.
4.5 Very refresh, clear color,
4.3 Just a beautifully balanced Hop bomb that never fails to disappoint. Does not drink like an 8%
5.0 This beer never disappoints. So much flavour, so many hops and so much enjoyment.
5.0 Poured a slighly hazy golden, with good bubbles in the glass. Wonderful aroma of ctrust, pine, nettles with a hint of orange and lemon, perhaps some mango. Carbonation pushes the flavour around the mouth. There is a taste explosion of a million butterlies, a wonderful wonderful beer. This is definately a "stone the crows". Aftertaste is bitter but so balanced. Morish on a hot summers day. love it.
3.8 Orange, clear, thin head around the edges. Sweet fruity hop aroma. Bitter hop taste, orange and lychee. Dank and resinous, but not stupid. More-ish.
3.8 0,65l bottle. Pours cloudy golden with white head. Big aroma of grapefruit, orange peel, resin, malt, tropical fruit. Taste is fruity, tropical, citrus peel, resin, malt, very bitter. A big IPA, no doubt.
4.0 Poured from the can and what a stunningly well made beer. I agree with the other posters description who rate this 4.0 and above. This is the best IPA I have sampled since arriving in NZ Simplest way for me to describe Pernicious Weed is by comparison with the G.P Garagista IPA that has been my default IPA for many years - until i tried this one. The 8% ABV is well integrated into the flavour profile and seems no more present than in the Garagista that is only 5.8% ABV The Pernicious Weed is less bitter than the Garagista and the hops are fruitier and the malt is slightly more forward but definitely not a sweet IIPA. Overall I think this one is a more complex and well balanced blend of malt, pine and fruits hops than the Garagista (which i think can sometimes let the bitterness overly dominate the the hop fruitiness) This is stand out IPA imho (actually IIPA) Amazing to get this quality and complexity from a can. Thoroughly deserves the high scores on this site. Take bow Garage Projects this is a wonderful take on IPA.
3.9 Can in Tauranga, NZ. Eye popping appearance, brilliant golden with a large lasting white head. Aroma is dank, earth, onion, citrus, so New Zealand. Flavor has sweet malt and a big intense funky onion earthy grapefruit rind resin hops. Bitter. Medium plus body, smooth feel despite the hops. Great one.
3.2 Stoned Pizza can (19-Jan-19) Fruity herbal aroma. Slight cloud amber colour, ok white head and spidery lacing. Sweet fruit resin flavour. Bitter dry herbal and mineral spice aftertaste.
4.3 Clean beer, hoppy but not too over the top. Could do with some more malt, Would drink again!
3.7 Full bodied , big beer . Very hoppy. Poured perfect, plenty of hops on the nose. Can’t go wrong with garage project.
4.0 This is quite a nice beer
3.8 Weirdly sock-like nose. Golden amber in colour. Them be proper old school hops. Nice and piney and just as should be.
3.5 Served on draught. Hints of citrus hops blended beautifully with some more piny resinous hops. Well balanced and not too boozy
5.0 The hoppiness lingers on the tongue, and the richness of the double stays with you. I don't have an educated palate, but what I can say is this beer fulfills all of your expectations. On tap at Carwyn Cellars.
4.2 Sticky and delicious, delightful example of the style
4.4 Love it! Hoppy, piney, full of flavour, the best GP ipa I’ve had. Bringing back fond memories of the Te Aro tasting room. Rich and boozy. Thanks for the beer RateBeer!
4.3 Very nice huge hops coming through in this condemned weed. This is tasty as especially since it’s free at Carwyn. How do I get a crossed bottle cap?
5.0 Pours a deep amber-orange with a snow white head. Aroma is all guava, apricot, mango. The stone fruit character continues with even more stone fruit, and a metric $#!¥ tonne of resinous pine. Pernicious Weed stands out as one of Australia/New Zealand’s best IIPAs as it is weighty enough to be weaponised, but agile enough in its drinkability that a thirsty trooper could crush it.
