3.0 Bottle, from Beer52 (5.2%). Amber brown, thin short lived off white head and low condition. Caramel and a little brown sugar in the nose, with a touch of metallic hops. Moderately full in the mouth with a slightly earthy hop note and gentle sweet caramel. Finish is a little tinny, with some hop bitterness lingering and a slightly fruity citrus note.
3.1 Bit of a ringer for the Snatch-laden pint of twiggy brown Burton I had up the road earlier. Not pale but coppery brown and densely foamed. Nose pure English boiled sweet caramel and aniseed. Full condition ushering more mineral and caramel tones stirred with liquorice and finished with wet dough and vanilla. Hint of cinnamon and Honey Nut Cornflake. Could easily pass as Abbot or Hen or any cask Greene King. Never had a beer like this before from America. Dreadful.
3.2 Bottle from Beer52. BB Mar 2020; Drank May 2019 - 5.2% not 4.5% - Clear orangey amber with a small white head. Malty; pale malts, caramel, grainy. Fruity; citrus. Hoppy; grassy hops; earthy notes. Quite dry. Sweet caramel malty citrus fruity grassy hoppy. OK. (2019-05)
3.1 355ml bottle thanks to Colin. Thin white head, minimal lacing. Clear amber body. Malty nose, light orchard fruit. Flavour is biscuit, grass, apple. Light bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, clean finish. Very traditional pale ale.
2.7 Bottle from Beer52. Pours amber with a cream head. Toasty aroma. The taste is citrus and toast. Meh.
3.5 Subtle aromas, nothing standout in there. Amber beer with a long lasting creamy head. Lovely biscuit and caramel maltiness. Some hops on the tongue to finish.
3.5 12 fl oz bottle (5.2% ABV); BB 1st Mar 2020. Drank at home on 14th May 2019. Liked it. Amber with a copper hue, white crown. Semi-sweet malty molasses and orchard fruits in both the aroma and taste, nice.
3.1 350ml bottle from Beer52. Deep amber. Aroma of gentle hops, floral and biscuity notes. Flavour has a little bite, and a good freshness to it.
3.5 very english tasting - This is like a thinner best bitter
3.3 Deep chestnut brown with a fast-settling head, aroma is caramel malt and a touch of pear drops, then it's bitter-sweet, juicily drying and malty, with a touch of astringent prunus bitterness on the finish.
3.3 Hints of sherry and stone fruits in this heady copper coloured pale. A little thin but packs a punch in terms of flavour and aroma.
3.3 Bottle from Beer52. 5.2% abv. Amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma malty and caramel. Taste light bitter. Medium body.
2.5 16oz can. Pours amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is bread, buterscotch, grapefruit, floral hops, and caramel. Taste is biscuit, honey, barely, grapefruit, yeast, fruity esters, light pine, faint caramel, and light nuttiness. Light-medium body. Soft carbonation. Off-crisp mouthfeel. Dull.
2.9 5/26/18 - Bar Harbor, ME - random Circle K/Irving's store - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper pour, bubbly off-white head, Aroma has a string element of butterscotch, some nuttiness. Same butterscotch essence flows over to the flavor, does not overwhelm the subtle bitterness. Light citrus notes, some trailing nuttiness.. Decently thick mouthfeel.
3.0 UPDATE ON 7/14/11- Been a year since I tried this. Downgraded a few points (two on flavor and one on appearance).......New England Run Sample #4:- This is the sort of EPA that I enjoy. Has a special yeasty taste that's hard to describe....but I find it in some foreign stouts and porters (like Flag for instance). Has a gold-copper appearance with a semi-smooth mouthfeel. Well balanced with slight caramel malt and mild hop and that "hard to describe" yeasty/wheaty taste. I can't wait to get this again (or something similar) with some Chowda or Fish n' Chips.
3.6 Not very pale for a pale ale but does not have a harsh linger and better taste towards a European palate.
3.0 Rich amber color; Medium body; Aroma of malt, caramel, light hops, & some fruit; Flavor of malt, pine hops, caramel, and citrus; Finish is slightly bitter; Decent overall.
3.9 Honey and herbal, grassy aroma. Copper color, clear. Full body with biscuit malt start and bitter then sweet finish. Biscuit, toffee, honey, and bitter flavor.
3.0 Bottle into plastic water glass. Dark brown, creamy head. Malty aroma. Medium malt in the mouth, decent hoops. Medium finish. Refreshing, not overly hopped. Solid if nothing terribly special. Reminds me of Newcastle with a bit more hops.
3.0 Orange gold, light tan head. Grain, slight pine resin, floral. Lightly bitter, some sweetness. Lighter body, some acidity. Bit of carbonation. Fine.
2.7 Had as part of a flight in their tiny tap room in Portland Maine. Dark orange and clear. Malty and dank fruit taste. Blah.
3.3 More of an Amber ale in my opinion but does have a little bit of a bitter pale ale finish, resembles an American pale more than a British.
3.0 Bottle 355ml. Pours amber with medium beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of malt, caramel, citrus. Taste is of malt, caramel, bitterness, citrus. Palate: Medium body. Soft-medium carbonation. Overall: OK, but forgettable. No major flaw.
3.8 12 ounce bottle. Bright amber orange with a small bubbly beige head. Faint toasted malt nose. Dry firm toasted malt flavor upfront. Slightly citrus fruit hops in middle with spicy bitterness. Finishes dry and crisp with some astringency. Very British in character.
3.2 Very malty and dey flavored. Ends with a nice hoppy bitter finish. Leaves a malt flavor on the palate. Pours a deep cooper in color with a thick tan head. Had at home from beer of the month. Okay at best
3.5 Pour from a 12oz bottle. Copper amber brew iwth off white head. Nice aroma of light malts, aromatic hops and a hint of fruit. Taste is dry up front and moderately hops foreward with some crispness showing up at the start of the swallow. Toasted malts with a moderate but complex hoppiness in the middle and finish. Good palate, good all around.
2.9 Rather watery concoction with a tarty bitterness that isn’t balanced out very well. Decently refreshing but not your best bet.
3.5 Copper color with a thin white head. Pleasant spicy, herbal, and floral hop aroma. Toasted malt on the palate. Dry. Medium body.
2.9 Got a couple bottles from my good friend of mine who visits Maine pretty regularly. This isn’t a bad pale ale, but not a really great one either. The beer pours a dark amber color with minimal head and lacing. The nose is balanced pretty well with a good mix of floral hops and light caramel malt. The flavors, though, weren’t balanced as nicely. I tasted a bit too much malt and not enough hops.
2.8 I’d put this as a solid average beer. Much better than any macro brew and better than the basic Sam Adams, too. Not much aroma coming from the foamy, off-white head. The initial flavor has a decent bitter bite to it, but it dissipates much too quickly. Good but not great. I may have given it an extra .1 because it comes from Maine (which is super cool).
