4.5an early (1960) craft beer before the beer snobs were even born... 5.2% abv and an affordable good-tasting ale that has a smooth palate and not fizzy like a lot of "craft" ales trying to duplicate Genny Cream Ale !!! ... $7.49 a 12-pak at Wegmans makes it a great regular-joe ale without all the snobbery of the weird-named high-alcohol "craft" beers on the market !!!
3.824 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 11/11/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear medium golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of cracker, corn, white bread dough, and lightly toasted biscuit; with light notes of lemon, pear, apple, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with pale malt/corn and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, corn, white bread dough, and lightly toasted biscuit; with light notes of lemon, pear, apple, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness of malt/corn and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Very clean on lager flavors, not Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and light sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.1%. Overall this is a delicious cream ale. All around nice robustness of malt/corn and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. Very flavorful and never thin/watery for the ABV. Very clean pale malt/corn flavors, restrained yeast, and mild earthy hop balance. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
1.8Pours clear golden with thick, foamy head. Aroma is skunky, with just a hint of grass. Taste i slight corn syrup and bread, building to a light hop feel. Finish is uneven and bitter. A good beer to hand to someone else at a party.
2.1Does sweaty underwear attract you? The smell of skunk? Roadkill in high summer? If so, go with Miller Lite, which is tasty like sweatsocks. This stuff is OK. It should be the state beer of Oklahoma....whose motto is "Oklahoma is OK." Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Not like Blatz, whose motto should be "BLATZ FUCKING RULES!" or "Blatz? Why not?"
In any event when you're in New York ask for the sweat sock of beers or this, or not....after all it's popular near Buffalo. And there's a city that needs help. 4 Super Bowl losses in a row. Screw this shit and get a man's beer in you. That means BLATZ fuckers.
2.2cooked vegetables, basement aromas, clear, white foam, lightly bitter, light sweetness, lightly sour, umami, light body, thin feel, not really a fan. This is not a cream ale I would recommend to a friend.
3.1Draft at Wish You Were Beer. It poured a clear gold with a thin white head. The aroma is malty grain with a sweet corn taste. The mouthfeel has a light creaminess to it. Easy drinking.
2.7Bottle. Light color and light, crisp. Citrusy and a little grassy. Refreshing, very light on the hops.
1.6Used to enjoy these in the Vermont summer heat, not bad for a super cheap beer. Almost a lager taste.
3.424 oz can. Aromas of bread and grass. Pours a clear bright gold with a big white head that is pretty persistent. Some ;lacingRound full malty flavors of bread and honey with a destinct hop finish that balances the sweetness. Medium carbonation. Dry mouthfeel. Super drinksble. It’s been around so long because its good.
2.8Pours a clear, weak looking yellow with a medium white head. The aroma isn't bad though it is light. It consists of hay, bread, and a little bit of grass and spice. The taste has has mild bitterness and sweetness. The flavors contained within are well balanced between bread, cereal, grass, corn, and spice. Everything here is more subtle, which makes this one very easy to drink. I find only just a hint of grain. Short and subtle aftertaste of spice. Its lighter in body and has a smooth texture. This was much better than I was expecting.
2.9On tap at the Genesee Brewery. Tastes like an average ale with a nice palate.
2.6Clear , golden color. Medium-sized, white head . Sweet corn and hay in aroma. Malty taste , with nothing more than corn sweetness. Drinkable on summer.
4.2DOC: 6/7/17
2015 BJCP Category: 1C Cream Ale
AROMA: Corn-forward nose though sweet like cereal. Base malt is present, but subtle. No hop presence (none needed). Clean fermentation. 9/12
APPEARANCE: Very clear golden color (4-5 SRM). Sparkling. Fairly large white foamy head retains and laces quite well. 3/3
FLAVOR: Mild palette overall, though corn and base malt are about even in intensity. Slightly sweet cereal-like taste. Perhaps a background note of DMS (seems to have a minor oily/metallic note - but is easy to ignore). Faint spicy hop flavor and bitterness to offer balance. Clean dry aftertaste. 17/20
MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; medium-high carbonation. Crisp and refreshing. Easily sessionable during warmer weather despite being 5.1%[?] ABV. 4/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: While not as exciting as some of the craft interpretations of the style, this is a progenitor of the style and still exemplifies it many decades later. 9/10
TOTAL SCORE: 42/50
1.9Tall boy can. straw yellow. smells like melon, peach and hay. soft carb, very thin, fades fast to a sweet grassy flavor. caramel flavor?
1.6Can. Drank from the can. Weak aroma of hay and a barnyard, very lightly bitter, flavors of what I imagine trash to be, thin texture, light body and a brief, thin finish. Much worse than I remember.
2.1Way better than expected. Draft pour at twisted spoke. Golden with white head. Smells and tastes like a cream ale - weird!
2.3Not much taste to this Genesee Cream Ale, got to say I'm disappointed... leaves a Coors aftertaste in my mouth
3.9This beer gots extra points for nostalgic reasons. It exemplifies true Western New York, blue collar beer.
1.9Pale gold pour, fast disappearing head. Malt, a bit of corn, fairly light body and light carbonation. Downing a few of these with a huge plate of Anchor Bar wings used to my weekly tradition in Buffalo. Cheers to my misspent youth!
2.3Originally rated on 1/23/2009. It pours a mid yellow, mid carbonated body, not much head. Aroma and flavor of sweet malts, no creaminess to speak of. Overall its passible but not great.
2.6From old tasting notes. Ah, one of the beers of my youth! Medium gold with small bubbles. Moderate creamy white head. Light sweet maltiness with a wisp of hops. Tangy ale flavor is sweet and fizzy. Middle is crisp and light bodied. Finish is just plain non existent. Average flavor at a cheap price.
2.1Pours a clear straw-gold with fizzy white head. Smell is hay, cereal, grass. Taste is mild - sweet more than bitter - cereal and grasses. A step above an adjunct lager - but not very noteworthy.
2.4355ml can. Got the tick of this one in at the holiday work party. Brought it in specifically to try, just realized i forgot to rate it. It is a basic cream ale, treads on adjunct lager waters. Meh.
2.9Can poured into a dof tumbler. Light pale color. Clean, crisp tasting. Non-dairy creamer. Fairly sweet, but nothing overwhelming or gross.
1.524 oz can @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Barely malt in the aroma. Clear light amber with a lot of rising bubbles, smooth white head that settles to a good inch, blobs and globs of lace. Taste is mostly adjunct (corn or rice) with light carbonation, and a finish that quickly sinks to nothingness. The original Genesee has more going for it. This one looks good, but is otherwise way down the list.
1.5Gold, big bubbles.
Disappearing body, no flavor, fizzy, decent heat, refreshing mouthfeel.
Low bitterness, off dry, good acidity.
Adjunct flavor, corn, yeasty, very little hops,
Mediocre.
4.2Best Genesee beer of all.the king of lawn mower beers.one of my all time favorites, especially for the price.
1.5Looks like a Heineken, smells spongy and damp with a yeasty taste. Draft. Golden body, small white head. Blah.
1.3Watery and mostly tasteless, this beer left zero lasting impression. I then decided to not even try the regular Genesee
2.7Can shared by Keith. Lots of corn and rice. Crystal clear. Taste is pretty neutral overall bland and ok.
