3.8Rating #1330 17.11.2014- Steph at @revolutionyeg told me there was a coffee saison, and I thought she was shitting me so I ordered it. Clear, amber brown pour with a foamy tan head, medium retention. Aroma is espresso, yeast, chocolate malt, mild spiciness. Taste is burnt sugar tempered with a bitter coffee edge that really establishes this beer on the palate. Lots of funk and coffee notes that complement each other. Lovely
3.4Aromat: dominuje świeżo parzona kawa. Trochę czekolady, kandyzowane owoce, banany i lekki alkohol. Podobnie do mojego ris-a z kawą, którego zrobiłem na drożdżach T-58. Może być, ale bez szału.
Wygląd: barwa niemal czarna, pod światło głęboko rubinowa, wydaje się względnie klarowna. Piana jasno beżowa, drobno pęcherzykowa, umiarkowanej wielkości i podobnie trwała.
Smak: słodycz niemal na równi z kwaskowością i alkoholem. Następnie nuty estrowe i przyprawowe, ciemne słody oraz kawa. Goryczka niewielka i delikatna. Krągła do tęgiej pełnia, umiarkowane do wysokiego wysycenie i nieco szczypiący, kawowo- alkoholowy finisz. Spodziewałem się znacznie więcej.
3.5Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge. Drunk at home. Dark brown with very little visible carbonation and minimal head. Smell... hmmm... cold milky coffee, marshmallow, vanilla and a bit of yeast. Sweet sugary taste, hints of creme brûlée and cinnamon toast. A bit of hop bitter/sourness in the finish. Enjoyable but a bit one-dimensional for the ABV, hype and cost.
4.030-OCT-2015, bottle @Ulkløbben meeting, @Sonni.
Dark Brown with lasting tan head.
Aroma is coffee!
Is this really a Belgian strong ale? I cannot find the Imperial Saison here. Just the coffee, and I quite like that:-)
Soft carbonation, Medium+ body, nice and sweet.
3.7650ml bottle at home. Totally black beer with minimum beige head. Cold beer no yeast aroma is roast coffee and chocolate. Some yeast and alcohol in backround. Taste is sweet coffee, dark chocolate and some alcohol. Suprisingly waterish palate. Warmed up beer with sediments aroma mainly coffee and hint of alcohol. Taste is pretty similar to cold beer with more of some chocolate notes. Palate is much better. Soft stoutlike beer with some yeasty feelings. Disapointment compared to expectations but good beer anyways.
3.8Aroma:
Coffee, belgian ale, chocolate, licorice, not intense at all.
Appearance:
Dark brown/black beer with a off-white head.
Taste/Palate
Sweet chocolate and licorice, bitter coffee. Fucking Chocomel at the end, fucking Chocomel.
3.6Zwart met een kleine beige schuim kraag. Ruikt koffie, mocca. Smaakt chocolade, koffie, mocca.

4.1Pours dark brown with some sediment, not as appealing as a dark stout in the glass.
Aroma is coffee, coffee and then some more coffee.
Taste is everything i have been looking for in a coffee oriented stout, huh, belgian strong ale?
I expected it to be a funky mess due to it´s belgian roots but this turned out to be one of the best coffee beers i have ever had!
Bottle from SB
3.5650ml bottle. Appearance: A dark brown body, with a small to average, frothy, tanned head. Which leaves minimal lacing.
Aroma: C?offee and dark malts. Some molasses and liquorice tones.
Taste: dark malts, mollases and coffee with some spicy yeast. Moderate sweet, mild bitter. Light sour tones.
Medium body, creamy texture and soft carbonation in palate
4.0Bottle, 0.65l, shared with Hoppiness crew. Pours pitch black with thin creamy light brown head and nice lacing. Aroma of coffee, yeast and dark fruits. Taste starts with sweet light roasted malt and chocolate, following is sour yeasty and fruity, mouthfeel is spicy chilli, while finish is mild bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and soft carbonation in palate. Sweet and sour coffeish hybrid...
3.8Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark opaque black pour with a creamy tan head, aroma has some yeast action along with coffee and chocolate, taste has dark fruit, robust coffee, milk chocolate, spice and yeast action trying to get noticed.
3.5650ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small to average, frothy, diminishing, minimally lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma, sweet-ish notes of molasses, treacle, coffee, some liquorice. Taste is dark malty, notes of treacle, malt lozenge, coffee, cautious hints of yeast spiciness. Not too much coffee man, but too much coffee for a Belgi-an.
4.0Bottle at the brewery. Aroma is full on coffee, taste is more nuanced, initial coffee, but afterwards more subdued. Bit of caramel sweetness, roasty. Very nice. Quite subtle. Don’t get much Belgian, but I do get much deliciousness.
3.8Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice rich, single centimetre tall lighter brown head. Aroma of coffee (naturally), earth, malt, raisins, figs, nuts and a touch of chocolate. Medium-bodied; Strong coffee flavours with a lot of roasted malt and raisins as well, with some milk chocolate, prunes and even some grain noticeable. Aftertaste shows a good combination of malt and sugars with a dominance on bitter coffee flavours. Overall, a nice beer with a lot of flavours, mostly showing the coffee and chocolate notes, but the malt and sugars show nicely as well. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from The Proper Pour @ The Source in Denver, Colorado on 07-June-2014 for US$8,00 a few hours before leaving back for Portland to get some more from this series.
3.422 oz bottle. Courtesy of olio. Cheers!
Black colour with a small tan head.
Coffee, darkness, ashy dryness and mild vanilla sweetness in the aroma.
The flavour is coffee, roasted malt and more coffee. Not too sweet and quite tolerable coffee dose. Although I can’t find much more than coffee.
3.965 cl bottle.
Pours black color with a small head. Coffee is quite distinct on the nose, chocolate, a bit of yeast, cocoa, roasted notes and some faint vanilla. Some berries on the flavor, coffee, vanilla, cocoa and some more dark berries. Very quaffable and tasty, a very pleasant surprise.

3.7650 ml bottlr. Thanks olio. Pours a black colour with a small head. Aroma of roastiness, coffee, grass and bread. Flavour of rich coffee, toasted bread, chocolate and herbal hops. Full bodied. Rich and tasty. Belgian strong ale? Does not feel like it. Good.
3.7Bottle @ home from Hopduvel, Ghent - BE. Color: deep dark black beer with brown reflexion, small carbonation and small brown head. Smell: coffee domination. Notes of malt and black bread. Small licorice finish. Taste: not so strong palate really drinkable sensation. Taste of coffee and malt, small sweet chocolate finish. Really nice beer and easy drinkable when you compare to the label. Aftertaste: chocolate, coffee and malt aroma.
4.3Bomber. Beermoth, Manchester. Clear, very dark, chestnut brown. Film of sticky, lasting, tan head. Milk chocolate. Praline. Milky coffee. Light, fruity saison character comes through toward the end. Drinks dry, fruity, and dark chocolate fruity sweet. Smooth, rich, and stupidly easy to drink. Feels nowhere near the ABV. Finishes silky sweet, and roast coffee dry. Perfect balance throughout. Lovely.
4.0Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Black pour with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aromas of black treacle, coffee, licorice and chocolate. Flavours of crème caramel, licorice toffee, treacle and light coffee roast. Exceedingly smooth. Very nice indeed.
4.1Bottled 650ml. The aroma has coffee, some berry fruity tones, roast, some dust. Dark brown-black coloured beer with an off-white, thin head. It has a medium to light body with a nice soft carbonation. The taste is light bitter, has some coffee, roast, fruity tones, some caramel. Nice and smooth finish. Aftertaste is light sweet bitter chocolate, it is not long though. A very surprising beer!
3.4Bottle shared. Dark Brown colour with a beige head. Burned coffee, caramel, raisins, chocolate, ice coffee, roasted coffee beans. Taste is like it’s a beer that has been blended with coffe. Ok beer, not a outstanding coffee beer
3.2Bottle. Dark brown, small and fully diminishing light brown head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, light caramel, some roasted malt - faint burnt malt and some coffee, faint hoppyness. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish flavor, light roasted malt and some coffee, light hoppyness. Finish is average, malty - some and lightly sweetish - sweetish, some roasted malt - faint burnt malt with some coffee, light hoppyness and faint alcohol. Roasted ale with coffee. Could be drier with more bitterness to balance coffee and sweetness.
4.0Bottled @ Rooie Dop Exit party. The aroma has coffee, some berry fruity tones, roast, some dust. Dark brown-black coloured beer with an off-white, thin head. The taste is light bitter, has some coffee, roast, fruity tones, some caramel. Nice and smooth finish. Medium bodied. Easy and subtle. Pretty good.
3.8Bottle @ Rooie Dop, medium sample. Dark color, medium head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, bit brown cookie, slight spicy. Didnt realise it was an imperial saison, as the aroma is dominated by dark malts and a bit coffee. Coffee is not really strong, but quite subtle. Soft sweet taste, bit bitter from the malts. Quite easy drinker, which is dangerous for 8.2%.
5.0Really dark with a little off brown head. Very sour, yeasty aroma with hints of rasins, coffee and bread. Complex but awesome flavours. Very sparkling on the tongue, sweet on the cheeks. Some sweet strawberries in the front of your mouth, chewinggom as well. Yoghurt on the palate, alcoholic in the throat. Also bits of anise and almost mint like freshness! Great beer! Oh wait and there is coffee everywhere, subtitle in flavour, but strong in presence! One month later I had an other bottle. Wow, this is just perfect craftsmanship!!!
4.1Pitch black, brown highlights, weak head.Smell is a delicate balance of coffee, leather and milk chocolate, lightly metallic, subtle touch of grapefruit.Beautifully balanced, creamy oily watery bitterness. Full and lasting, the finish is soothing and ashy. Brilliant!
4.0This is a beer that you have to work your way into, it unfolds like a flower, if you will, from being coffee and bitter, then rich and raisin like to having a mustiness and then the alcohol astringent at the back. And back again. Changes as it warms, as they do, and this becomes quaffable and before you know it, it’s gone. It’s very good. Get in!
