4.2 Draft to taster at FoBAB 2016. Black with moderate tan head. Nose bourbon, vanilla, raisin, molasses. Taste sweet up front, light bourbon, sweet cherry, light roast. Nice example.
4.2 Sensoric. Pitch black with light, semi-thick, light brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is moderately malty - mainly roasted, milk chocolate, some vanilla and light to bourbon notes, some dark fruits in the background. This blackberries are really noticeable and plays well with the rest, really balanced brew. There are also spicy rye whiskey character. Taste is like in the rest of the Goose Island Stout really sweet from the beginning till the end empowered by candied cherries, slightly acidic due to blackberries. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft to average carbonation, finish is sweet, acidic with nice dark fruits accents. In overall really complex brew, really balanced and really nice composition of ingredients.
4.2 8 4 9 4 17 2015 bottle shared at/by Joes, thanks for providing these (sometimes) awesome bottles! Black color. Light brown head, not lasting. Aroma’s: fruit, berries, roast, sweet, bourbon. Retronasal it’s sweet, berries, bourbon, alcoholic. Flavor is full sweet, alcoholic. Strong alcohol feel, but not burning. Full velvetty body. Long finish with blueberries, sweet. Awesome stuff, and highlight of the day for me.
4.0 Black pour, smaller tan head, small specks of lace. Strong rye aroma, berries, coconut. Dark malts and fruit up front, rye, coconut, berries, slight molasses sweetness, lighter salt. Thicker, fuller body. No signs of infection or falling off here!

4.4 Bottle from Imperial Tap Portland. Pours dark brown with a transient tan head and a massive chocolate and whiskey aroma. There is a full-bodied chocolate cherry flavor with some tasty whiskey. Wow, this is a really great brew.
4.4 Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours dark brown with a transient tan head. Aroma is light rye with dark fruit - likely cherries. Med ++ body. Flavor is rye, chocolate, cherry. Cherry hit with a bang. Amazing flavors. Maybe more complex than just cherry. Enough heat to suggest whiskey. Super tasty stuff.
4.2 Enjoyed at BTBF 2017. Dark brown color, black. Opaque. Brown heavy head. Rich chocolate aroma, woody, spice, alcohol. Rich flavor, sharp malts, wood, chocolate, warmth, roasted malt with a spicy finish.
4.2 Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, raw sugar, red berries, coffee, light licorice and light caramel. Taste is medium to high sweet and light bitter with notes of chocolate, red berries, raw sugar and light licorice. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation and sticky mouthfeel. Great stuff..
4.2 Black pour with a thin khaki head. Aroma is chocolate syrup, berries, and bourbon. Taste is chocolate syrup, berry jam, vanilla, bourbon, and caramel. Medium body. Very complex.
4.4 Bottle at Solar Eclipse Part 3: The Darkest Hours. It pours jet black with a creamy beige head. The aroma is sweet roasted and chocolate with some sweet cherry notes. Oak and vanilla. Ripe berries. Lots of cherries in the flavor with whisky and chocolate notes. Sweet roasted malty notes. Great addition of cherries. The blackberries are not that profound.
4.2 Bottle at Solar Eclipse part 3 - the darkest hours. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, coffee and berries. Complex. Notes of whiskey, alcohol and wood. Savoury. Starts sweet but finish bitter. Balanced. Full and oily. A great one...
4.0 Bottle @ Solar Eclipse part 3 - The Darkest Night. Black body with a small light brown head. Light roasted malt, sweet cherries, oak, whisky, vanilla, light salty. Good.
3.8 Bottle @ SEP3DH. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of weird licorice, marzipan alike, something weird butterstoch, slight hint of cherries, quite greasy. Taste is rather sweet, loads of barrel, butterstoch, slight hints of cherries, ligiht vanilla alike, fruity. Nice balanaced and complexity.
4.2 Bottle @ Sanderslum Pubbens Vintage launch/Solar Eclipse pt. 3. - The darkest hours. Pours black with a small beige head. Woody and dry. Complex. Sweet mocha, vanilla and a touch of berries. Smooth and soft. Warming alcohol. Savory.
4.2 Courtesy of Brian, vintage 2015, 27oct15, 13.2% ABV Dark brown color, oily, with almost no head. Aroma of bourbon, coconut, rye, alcohol, hints of tobacco. Strong body, but even stronger alcohol feeling, a bit oily, rich molasses, dark chocolate, moderate sweetness, tobacco. Wonderful, extreme, boozy.
4.1 200 imperial stout rated. 500ml bottle (thx, Brian) at Brian’s office. 2015 vintage. Aroma is loads of molasses and some bourbon notes. Taste is the same, very sweet, candies notes. Good seeper.
4.1 2015 Bottle with the Brothers Lit. Super complex beer! Thinner than the normal BC, lots of dark berries and oak in the aroma along with a muted whiskey. Taste is similar but very complex, with the salt a nice touch to the candied dark fruit and whiskey notes. Quite sweet but a sourness hangs in the background as well. Super well done.

4.3 (Goose Island Bourbon County Stout - Regal Rye Barrel) Bottle 500ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 13.2% Pitch black colour on the body with a thick pour, small dark brown head, a bit thin, with average retention. Aroma of whiskey, vanilla, alcohol, light chocolate, roasted malts, wood, light cherries, berries. Taste has more cherries, more chocolate too, whiskey, vanilla, wood, roasted malts, coal, berries, nicely sweet with a faint sour touch form the cherries. Full body with good carbonation, sticky palate. Another great version of Bourbon County Brand Stout.
4.2 Opaque black with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, blackberries, cherries, vanilla, wood, and whiskey. Taste of roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits, berry skins, charred wood, and whiskey.
4.4 Oily near black pour. Aroma of whiskey, dark chocolate, vanilla berries and cherry. Complex, as is the flavor, though I’d take the bramble version over this. Enough going on I couldn’t tell it was rye whiskey, but it was delicious.
4.3 Backlog from GABF 2016 Black appearance with a tan/brown head. Aroma and flavor of bourbon, chocolate, caramel/toffee, dark fruits, roasted malt, light oak and hint of char/smoke. Full body with a slight syrupy feel and sweet finish. Nice.
4.0 Pours a pretty dark, almost completely black color, with a mohagony black, very small, disappating head. Smells of a glazed cherry and toasted coconut duet, which creates a pleasant sweetness, together with milk chocolate and perfumy booze. The nose does not rely insanely heavily on the cherries, while they certainly add a dessert peak. Drinks very smooth, not overly thick but silk throughout, together with tart cherry jam. Offers a pleasant warmth, with a warming alcohol note during the finish, entirely wrapped up into cream and chocolate malts. The barrel becomes apparent on the taste surprisingly soon, just after an intial foundation of toasty malts and creamy milk chocolate has been established. Toasty coconut, cinnamon and a dry booze note add perfectly to a well nuanced cherry presence, still relying on the awesomly tasty base of the beer. Finishes with a hint of vanilla, molasses and licorice, among the warming alcohol, bitter chocolate and prevailing glazed cherries. Yupp, this is sweet Jam and sugar almost overpower the taste, if it wasn’t for the equally powerful foundation of the beer. This foundation delivers enough chocolate, fudge and toasty malts to handle the fruits perfectly, creating a well working, sweeter variation of bcbs, without wanting too much.
4.8 500ml bottle @ home. 2015.10.15 Vintage Pours deep black/brown with a minimal brown head. Nose is a mix of toffee, dark roast, with hints of cherries. Flavour is full bodied and complex. Just a lovely cherry presence that isn’t over the top nor too weak, a hint of vanilla while toffee lingers throughout. Carbonation is low. Flavors of toffee and raisin with a light vanilla background
4.7 At Bart’s Bourbon County tasting in Bruges. A very special and highly acclaimed version of BCBS, aged on rye whisky barrels and with added fruit as well as sea salt... Very thin, loosely structured, yellowish beige, quickly dissolving head, black robe with mahogany to bronze coloured edges. Aroma carries a lot of hot chocolate sauce and wet oak, along with hints of beef stock, cured meat, blackberries, sweet cherries, liquorish, coffee liqueur, whisky, bayleaf, old sherry, candied dates, brown rum, toasted bread. Sweet and candied onset (the candied cherries, no doubt) well positioned against this mellow and lively berry sourishness, followed by a thick umami accent of cured meat, probably reinforced by the salt, though no outspoken saltiness appears; very oily, thick mouthfeel, softly carbonated, achieved by a thick layer of nutty, toasted and caramelly malt bittersweetness; the blackberry and cherry sourishness continue well over this, adding the woody tannins in the back to dry the tail, while warming, notably whisky-like alcohol rounds things off, along with a peppery hop accent. A kind of chocolate liqueur flavor lingers after swallowing. This a deeply beautiful beer: the high class of BCBS is elegantly adorned with berries, lending it a fresh, crisp sweet-and-sourness which does not clash with the basic character of the beer; neither does the pinch of salt, which remains limited to a vague but structurally interesting background presence. Wonderful, glad I finally tried it.
4.1 2015 bottle pour into a snifter showing thick and oily pitch black with no head. The nose shows a mix of toffee and raisins with hints of cinnamon. Aromas tend to be very subtle in general. The palate is full bodied and thick; lightly oily. Barely any carbonation. Moderately sweet with pronounced flavors of toffee and raisin with a light vanilla background and a strong resurgence of toffee, raisin, and a light blackberry sweetness on the aftertaste. Light alcoholic spice. Amazing.
3.8 November 26, 2016 - bottle from Black Friday 2015. Had this a couple times last year, but wanted to give it a year before rating. Black pour with limited head and nothing even after swirling the glass. Aroma was strong with the salt, some fruit and mild rye whiskey. Taste was very sweet, sugary sweet, and then had a mix of spice and salt in the finish. The whiskey was extremely mild. Hoped this would’ve been better with age, but not so much after one year.
4.4 Looks as expected with a small tan head, The aroma has some wood and vanilla upfront, with some chocolate and dark fruit notes. Lighter body than most other BCS’. Nice blackberry and cherry flavors that are just a bit more forward than the chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, and coffee notes. The acidity from the cherries cuts through the sweetness just enough to make this really drinkable. Tasty stuff.
