3.7 12oz bottle thanks to Keir. Poured a super cloudy bronzed up orange bodhy with a larger frothy off white head that lasts and lasts. Aroma is the best part of this beer, very complex with a lot going on. Notes of Belgian yeast, citrus, flowers, Kombucha tea, fresh lemons, wheat chaff, crusty Artisinal breads, lavender. Body is ncie with an easy drinkability from a medium mouthfeel and softer to average mouthfeel overall and a quicker to average duration on the aftertaste. Flavor is okay but no way as complex as the aroma. Notes of lemons, Belgian yeast, fowers, Kombucha tea, wet grains, wet toast, grains, older lemons and some earth. Solid beer.
3.5 Don’t remember this one too much. Just transferring my Beer Advocate rating.
3.7 Bottle at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 03/19/2011 courtesy of BeerandBlues2. Clear copper body with a small white head. Sweet fruit and spice aroma. Sweet belgian spice with fruit, light caramel, candi sugar. Medium body with moderately high carbonation. 7/4/8/3/15 - 3.7 Bottle on 02/06/2011. Clear golden body with a small white head. Tart fruit honey and spice aroma. Sweet fruit and tart honey and spice flavor. Medium light body with high carbonation. 7/3/8/3/15 - 3.6
3.5 A really mild beer with some slight tartness. Has an interesting complexity to it with flavors of cereal, flowers, and slight cherries. Overall pretty good, and quite subtle and balanced.
3.8 An interesting brew. Too dark where I am to fully see this beer. Nice aroma. I get red currents (like the pies my Oma used to make) in this one: a tangy sourness matched with champagne-like carbonation. Lots of depth to this one. Half the fun is figuring it all out; the other half is the buzz it offers.
3.1 Bottle 22oz. Pours orange with almost no head. Aroma is of fruits, caramel, flowers. Taste is of caramel, fruits, slight acidity. Palate: Light-medium body. Overall: Not bad, but not really interesting imo.
3.5 post-cascade + upright tasting sessions - ’coz we’re porks. pours hazy light copper orange with a small white head, some retention and lacing. fruity esters, spicy, tobacco, light acidity - lactic and a bit citric, some floral notes too. average carbonation, light body - oily, hint of sweetness but ends relatively dry and herbal-spicy. quaffable belgian floral ale.
3.5 Bottle (22 oz). 2011 vintage. From Chris, thanks! Slightly hazy bright salmon color with a small white head and some lacing. Aroma is floral (mostly hibiscus) along with caramel and, a stated in the description of the beer, strawberries (light). Taste is slight sweet with caramel, floral notes and light fruity noes. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Good floral Belgian Ale, but it was probably better fresh (this one was 1+ year old), the floral notes were faded a bit.
3.5 650 ml bottle shared with Tom and chums. Pours a veiled orangeish copper with a short lived white head. Aroma is floral, oranges, roses. Flavor is soft caramel, floral, candied sugar. Finish is floral, herbal. Lingering brown sugar, rose, floral. Light body, soft mouthfeel, average carbonation. Good.
3.7 On draft at Frisco’s Taphouse. Poured light ruby. Floral nose. Flavor is sweet with tart strawberry and cherry finish. Refreshing.
3.6 Belgian ale with strong strain of bretta. Pours cloudy pale yellow. Sourness from bretta and hibiscus flowers, although funnily enough this doesn’t have a lot of initial florals in aroma. Finishes with light sourness. Fizzy carbonation. Bottle from 2011.
3.5 Bottle gift from SJ for our Goose Island night. Definitely a lot going on here. Strawberry, lemon, peach, bread with a tart flowery finish. I like it.
3.0 12oz bottle (2011). Pours a light orange, very minimal head but high carbonation throughout. Scent is floral, quite nice. Taste is light, lemon citrus with some Belgian yeast and a slight sour finish.
3.6 2011 bottle poured into goblet. Hazy amber pour with an airy lively white head that dissapates quick. Smells sweet. Not much else in the nose that I?m getting. Light and airy mouth feel, lots of lemon/citrus flavor, sour finish. I have another bottle from 2011 that I?ll save for another year or two; curious how it develops.
3.6 2011 bottle pours orange with a rosy tint. Small white head with decent lacing. Aroma of flowers with some brett funk and hint of orange and lemon. Floral notes in taste with orange rind, some earthy barnyard and a slight tartness. Medium bodied with thin mouthfeel, lively carbonation and dry finish. Nice and very drinkable. Puts one in mind of Orval without being a clone. ---Jeremy H
2.6 2011 12oz bottle from Kingma's Market, Grand Rapids, MI. Gold thick and hazy pour with a moderate amount of bubbles emanating from glass bottom. Lively, slightly offwhite head that began at an inch and settled to a thin layer. Small amount of lacing as well. Aromas of (in order of precedence) spring flowers, hibiscus, strawberry, strong lemon, honey, sour vinegar and then rye. Taste is very light. All the aromas blend into one taste. Mild, watery lemon citrus and flavors that remind one of fragrant flowers. Overall a bit sour in flavor. Left with a very faint tea flavor upon finish. Palate notes: moderately high carbonation with tingly and watery mouth feel, reminiscent of soda water. Dry finish like Chardonnay. Overall alright but not great in my eyes. Better (and stronger) scent than taste.
4.1 Bottle as an extra in a trade at some point. 2010. Pours clear red-orange, effervescent, think white head. Nose is vinegar and flowers, lemon and orange. Orvalish, sweet and funky. Orange cherry, lemon, some butter. Dry and mildly funky, clinging to the back of the tongue.
4.0 Tap takeover at crunchy's. nice aroma of tart fruit and a small amount of funkyness. Tart fruit and cotton candy flavor.
4.2 From bottle, courtesy of dpjuart. Wonderful floral-funky nose. Bretty and neutral fruit, hint of acid and leather. Very Orval-ish. Medium dark amber clear with thin off-white head. Starts fairly dry with light funky farm and leather. Neutral fruit with dry hops and yeast. Nice ale.
4.4 Pours a copper looking color this in between clear and cloudy. There is an average head that leave some nice lacing around the center of the glass. Scent is very floral with a hint that reminds me of pumpkin. The taste is oh so smooth and delicious. The beer is so well crafted and brewed that it’s difficult to pick out individual flavors. Some citrus and floral scent are evident though. A great beer that was definitely worth the $8!
3.6 Lovely pale ale by Goose Island. On tap at local craft beer bar. Blend of fruit sweetness and tartness.
3.5 2011 bottle to Goose Island glass. Pours a sunrise yellow; red and orange concentrated in the center working its way out to the edges of the glass where it becomes a golden yellow. Hazy with very distinguishable yeast particles. A little white, fizzy head that disappears quickly. The aroma is part bubble gum, tropical fruits and a sour, almost worcestershire smell. Taste is unique. Initially sweet, working its way to tart very quickly. Flavor includes berries and a floral taste that I suppose is the hibiscus. Leaves a very brief, unpronounced bitter taste at the end. The flavor really gets swept away very quickly by the high carbonation which gives a little burn to the tongue initially. Medium mouthfeel that is very crisp.
3.6 2010 bottle. Pours a clear golden orange color with a small bubbly head that quickly fades. Aromas are strawberries, raspberries, flowers, and Belgian spices. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly tart too. Very fruity and floral. Spicy and tart in finish. Once I read that there was tea in this, I tasted that too. A solid Belgian ale.
3.2 2011 bottle. brett-y aroma with some bright fruit. very dry, slightly astringent. a bit fruity but i think i let it age too long. it’s got a bit of brett/kombucha funk and it’s slightly tart, but there’s not much else left. the carbonation is very prickly, almost like a seltzer, which could also be due to age, but it messes with the flavor.
3.8 12 ounce bottle. 2011 version. Pours a cloudy pale amber with a decent white head. Aroma of fruit, florals, and spice. Taste is lemons, yeast, strawberries, florals, malt, and spice. Crisp and semi-tart. Very soft. Nice.
3.5 22 oz. bottle, sent from tstockstrom (thanks a lot, Chuck), pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma of floral notes and a hibiscus - fairly light nose. Flavour of hibiscus flowers, more floral notes and some biscuity malts, some lightly tart notes as well. Has aged extremely well, with the right proportion of hibiscus. Good stuff.
3.6 Sample at the Goose Island tap takeover at World of Beer Brewery District on 11/21/12. Clear amber pour with a medium white head. Aroma of tartness, malt, some floral notes. Malty flavor with soft fruit and floral accents before a tart, bitter finish.
4.0 Bottle. Pouts a slightly hazy gold with a rosey tint. Big, lasting head with plenty of lacing. Floral, spicy, fruity, pale malt aromas are pronounced. Taste is dry and tart. Sort of cherry thing going on. A light, crisp, highly effervescent Belgian style ale.
3.5 11th December 2010 Very hazy amber beer. Good sized white head. Semi crisp and semi dry palate. A tiny bit of barnyard. Sweet floral hibiscus dominates. Finishes light and dry. Not bad!
3.6 bottle - This brew smells funky and fruity. It has a sweet, fruity flavor with subdued tartness and funk and a hint of berries. Good brew.
