Goose Island Naughty Goose

Goose Island Naughty Goose

A Brown Ale with a bite. An American interpretation of an English classic, with lots of domestic Tettnang and Cascade hops to complement the roasted malt character. Head Brewer Wil Turner says this is the beer he is most proud of out of all Goose Island beers!

3.5 Pours dark brown with a dense tan head. The aroma has sweet malt, pronounced nuttiness, cocoa and a hint of hops. It has a medium body that is a bit rough with moderate carbonation. The flavor starts with earthy English ale traits, dry roasted malt, some nuttiness (not as much as the aroma) and some spicy / earthy hops. The finish is very dry and has some dark cocoa and is a bit chalky. Nice brown ale.
4.1 Nice dark color, dark dark amber. Alcohol and chocolate smell to the beer and it sits nice on you tongue. Complex flavors of malt and barley with a hint of bitter coffee. Very nice beer
3.7 Draught at Bottle Bar East, pours a very dark brown pretty much black color. Tiny head that wasn’t lasting, little bit of lacing. Light to medium carbonation. Aromas are lighter then the flavors, notes of chocolate, sweet malt, and plenty of hops, really a ton of fresh cascade is in there. Medium bodied with a good hop bite in the finish. Solid brown from Satan.
3.4 On tap 4 oz. pour at Meridian Pint in Columbia Heights, Washington, DC. Opaque, deep mahogany-red brown with light tab head and excellent lacing. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, cola, dark berries and caramel. Taste of sweet roasted malt, cola, light floral hops, chocolate and dark fruit. Medium/light body and low/medium carbonation with a soft, slightly foamy mouthfeel. Could stand moe oomph, but it is easy to drink.
2.8 Draft at Moriartys. Very dark copper pour. Big fizzy white head. Dark chocolate caramel malts. Burnt toast. Medium light body. Flavors feel a bit thin. Meh.
3.6 On cask at Clybourn brewpub. Sweet and roasted malt flavor with good depth and a little bit of chocolate. A little fruity hoppiness too but not bitter and no off-putting burnt or coffee notes. Fairly heavy mouthfeel for this low ABV is what kept me coming back for another.
3.8 Pours an opaque dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma has light floral hops atop nice roasted malts...dry leaves, nuttiness. Flavor follows suit...nice hoppiness...adds nice dark chocolate notes that take over towards the finish. Mouthfeel is light/medium with a dry dark chocolate/mild burnt finish.
3.8 Draft sample at VA Beer & Cheer Festival, 12/8/12. 5900th rating! Pours a dark brown color with a creamy brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of sweet malts, nuts, honey, floral hops and cherry-like fruit notes. The taste is toffee, nuts, toasted malts, chocolate, honey, dark fruits and candied citrus. Medium bodied. Nice beer.
3.1 Sampled at VA cheer & beer. Pours brown with off-white head. Typical, unassuming brown ale. A bit overly sweet. Could definitely use a bit of roast or nuttiness.
3.5 Brown with thin tan head; light body; hoppy aroma toasty flavor and hops in the dry finish
2.4 On tap at Kalamazoo beer exchange. Served in a snifter, black with purple/red hue. Very bubbly, cream colored cola-like head. Fairly void of scent. Average mouth feel, medium carbonation. Lactose sour flavor but really really faint and creamy. Not watery but a very very light flavor. A resemblance of a brown ale is there, roasted carmel but definite dairy taste blended in. Finish is warm feeling but not much flavor. Good beer but nothing outstanding.
3.6 Draft. Pours a clear dark brown with a finger of white khaki head. Aroma of herbal hops and caramel. Taste is light bitter. Herbal and citrus hops with a little caramel. Medium bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. Cool name, but it dosnt really taste that naughty.
3.2 Draft. Deep brown color . Smells of mild roast and nuts. Taste like a normal brown ale . Not sure why its called naughty though. Decent
3.0 Definitely left a lot to be desired. Very smokey and bitter on the backend. Hops in the middle are quite nice.
2.9 Overall a pretty decent beer but the mouthfeel on draft was a bit too thin for my liking.
3.2 Tap at Busters on 28th, more like boring goose... the nose of cascade helps but doesnt win me over, other than the slight touch of hops this is just your basic brown.
4.1 Had this on tap at the Clybourn location during the King Henry release. Served in an Imperial pint glass. A: Pours a clear dark brown with a dark amber edges. A thin light tan head forms on the pour and leaves some splotchy lace on the way down. S: Some caramel malts with a touch of smoke and roast. Light toffee as well. T: What a treat this was. There was a great caramel and toffee malt bill that gave it some sweetness with a nutty roastiness and a touch of smoke. The finish was a light, sweet chocolate. M: Medium bodied that greatly carbonated with a sweet chocolate taste coating the palate. High drinkability. O: I was pleasantly surprised by this guy. Would definitely have a again. 3.5 (Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm, 25 June 2012) Dark brown colour with brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of dark bread, chocolate and crisp-bread. Malty, roasted taste with caramel, chocolate, dark bread and a mild, spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Well balanced and quite nice.
3.4 Bottle @ Monks Sveavägen. Deep brown colour with a white head. Caramel aroma. Malty flavour.
3.5 Date: November 22, 2011 Mode: Cask Source: GI Clybourn Description: Semi-opaque reddish brown pour with good head and lacing, nutty and malt aroma, taste was similar but had some toffee and oak in there and a slight bitter finish.
3.1 This poured a light to medium brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of nuts, toasted malt, and light toffee. Flavor was toffee roasted malt, some caramel and nuts. Ok.
3.6 Tap. Pour is brown with a tan head. Nutty aroma with caramel. Taste is vanilla, oak, caramel and slightly bitter.
3.9 Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color ale with a large thick off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of lightly smoked malt with some residual sugar and some black chocolate notes. Taste is also a mix between some chocolate malt with light subtle traces of smoked and nuts with light residual sugar which provides a very nice balance. Body is a bit light with good carbonation. Good example of how to pack loads of while keeping the alcohol level to a reasonable amount.
3.5 Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small off-white head. Has a slightly roasted malty nutty caramel and chocolate aroma. Slightly roasted malty nutty chocoalte and weak dark fruit flavor. Has a slightly roasted malty nutty caramel and chocolate finish.
3.5 On-tap at the the brew pub... Stunner body, a dark but clear brown, hints of amber. A huge light tan head that is really smooth and creamy looking, good lacing... The aroma comes across to me sterile, too clinically executed, no character. Light nut, alcohol, and roast. Right notes, just doesn’t do it for me... The taste is much better, chocolate with a roastiness to it, hazelnut finish. A little dry for my liking, but complex and tastey. Mouthfeel is too dry but nicely carbonated...Easy drinker. Not as nutty of a brown as I’m used to or used to liking, but a more clinical approach that is pretty good. I’d drink again
3.5 Nutty brown-ale aroma. Brown in color. Medium body brown ale...an excellent brown ale. Notes: GABF ’09
3.3 0.65 l bottle at Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival 2010. Dark reddish brown color. The aroma and flavor is slightly sweet, nutty, chocolatey and raisiny with some coffee, toffee and mild bitterness. Easy drinking brown ale.
3.5 Very good brown ale. Some of the complexity of a porter but quite drinkable. Serving: Tap
3.6 22oz bomber. Pours a nice, clear, deep, rich auburn with streams of tiny bubbles constantly feeding a thin, wispy white head. Aroma is a little weak, showing some hints of raisin, brown sugar, and dry grain. Flavor is bold and starts out with a taste of dried dark fruit that quickly gives way to dry nutty grain, a touch of hop bitterness, some earthy yeast and a hint of molasses. Palate is soft and thinnish, as is appropriate for the style, with a nutty and faintly tart-fruity finish. Beers like this have increased my appreciation for the brown ale style.
4.5 Had on draft at the brewery. I was very surprised at how good this beer was, and how average some of its ratings were. This beer was fantastic! Huge malt with aromas of vanilla and oak. A huge beer, very complex with flavors of maple syrup, oak, vanilla and caramel. Huge alcohol and dry in the finish.
