Goose Island Sofie

Goose Island Sofie

Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

3.5 Bottled July 17 - from Tesco - extraordinary that bottles with this age are in supermarkets. Nose is brett, dough, chocolate limes, almond, vanilla, lime. Taste is dry, lime, dough, vanilla, hint of peach and melon, very faint white grape; brett is a lot less present than the nose would suggest, with a very light sourness. Pepper and a little spice with a dry vinious finish. Really very enjoyable, and great for a supermarket beer.
3.5 Sept 2020. 355ml brown bottle, unfiltered, from Tesco. Nice. I like this. There's a delicate play between the doughy malt and the warm yeast. Quite delicate. A faint tartness. Pleasant fruits. There's a lot going on here, and it's all complimentary. Put the right malt and yeast together in appropriate conditions, and magic will happen. You don't need to put in additional flavours of chocolate or mushrooms or chillies or modern hops. Just the magic of yeast and malt. The magic here is not awesome, but it is elegant. [3.5]
3.7 Cloudy amber with a small white head, aroma of hay, also slightly lemony. Taste, floral, wheaty, banana, with coriander and honey. Well carbonated. Brisk and refreshing. Appealing label design.
3.2 355ml bottle from Tesco - Cloudy yellow body, no head. Nose has orange peel, a bit of yeast, coriander. Bit watery for the ABV, fairly bland.
3.8 Hazy golden appearance. Aroma is grassy and sweet. Flavour is tart, grassy, hops, floral and citrus.
3.7 Bottle from Tescos, Lewisham. Gold pour with a white head. Roast parsnips, banana, green apple, light funky aroma (HEYY!!). Taste is cinnamon, apple crumble, banana toffee. Long sweet finish. Plenty of sweet and sour notes in the nose, not much sourness in the flavour. Interesting little number.
3.5 330ml bottle. Pours hazy orange gold with a medium head. Aroma is tart sherbet lemon with a little pepper. Taste has sour lemon to start with pepper on the finish. Touch of sweaty socks.
3.7 Yellow with no head and devoid of any life. Nice fruity flavour which is very typical of a saison Some bitterness and a bitter finish. Pleasant but I struggled to find any reason for it being so highly rated. My first from this brewery for some time.
3.8 Bottle at home picked up from Tesco . 2017 bottle. A light hazed dirty straw coloured pour with a fine off white head. aroma is straw, beligan yeast, brett, tart vinous notes, bitter lemon, grass, clove. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, mellow bretty funk, lemon, rounded Belgian yeast profile, light mealy apple, hint of banana. Palate is semi sweet, light tart, highish carbonationGood stuff.
3.9 From Tesco Dover
3.9 355 ml bottle from Tesco, bottled 11/07/2017, bb 08/2022 Golden, hazy, white head dissipating to a ring. Nose - rich, deep funk, citrus and spices. Best smelling barnyard ever, can't get enough. Taste - citrus, pepper. Dry. Prickly carbonation. I like it.
1.8 5/20 straw, grass and then overpowering overriding murk and funk. too hardcore for me
3.5 Pours golden with big white head. Aromatic Belgian spicy yeast, malty, citrus aroma. Taste is tangy citrus, pepper, malty, big carbonated brew. Light body but flavorful. Not bad at all.
3.7 Bottle from Beer Hawk in 2018. Bottled May 2017; BB not stated; Drank Feb 2020 - Clear pale gold. Small foamy white head. Fruity, citrus lemon, peel, white wine. Yeasty, funk. Spicy, pepper. Malty, wheaty. Dry. Sweet-bitter citrus fruity yeasty spicy wheaty. Enjoyed this. Good stuff. (2020-02)
Droge afdronk. M: Doordrinker met medium carbonatie.
2.9 Large frothy white head. Good lacing. Fully diminishing. Translucent dark-yellow body. Aroma: light hoppy, orange, lime, spicy, moderate yeasty. initial flavor: light sweet moderate acidic very light bitter. final flavor: very light sweet, moderate acidic light bitter; average duration. palate: light medium body, dry/watery texture, lively carbonation moderate astringent finish. agradável, mas um pouco mais ácida que a média, faltando o tradicional sabor de maçã do estilo, suave caráter maltado, azedume substituindo o amargor, caráter frutado cítrico, como previsto nas BJCP, 60 s
4.8 Best Ever
4.4 Citrus
3.6 Thuis uit een flesje. Licht troebel, gouden kleur, geen schuim (misschien te koud?). Aardig fris zuur in smaak en aroma, prima fris bier.
4.0 Goût de cidre
3.7 330 ml bottle bought in www.casadelacerveza.cl . This is one of 2017 (i love when beers have a year in it). Complex aroma, pretty good, pepper, cinnamon, orange, lemon, belgium smell in general but more fresh; good job there. Deep creamy golden color, low head. Taste is something new, very soft for 6.5%, complex, well made, but just not my thing. Fades with time. Good and creative beer though.
3.8 Nice golden pour with thin head. Wheaty nose. Farmy, light sour, a bit sweet. One of the best saisons ive ever had
3.0 From a beer hawk mystery case. Pours light orange and slightly cloudy. Aroma of lemons and apples. Light , sweet and fruity , almost cider like.
3.7 Version 2017. Robe jaune paille. Nez sur les Bretts. Faible carbonation, assez sèche, Saison très agréable. L'apport du fût de vin blanc et des écorces d'oranges est plus timide sur ce millésime (blend de 10 % seulement contre 20 % les années précédentes).
4.9 Great “typecity” though pours relatively thin head. Hazy straw. Dry with clear orange peels notes and bitterness.
4.1 Light, delicious, orange, sour
3.8 Bardzo fajny saison. Goryczka wyraźna, dobrze komponuje się z typowo belgijskimi nutami.
3.9 2013 and 2018 vintages compared side to side in mid 2019. 2013 vintage darker yellow hazy with modest fine dark sediment. Aroma of grass, citrus clementine, vinegar, barnyard funk. Smells like home brew. Tastes like a saison should, but a bit more rounded with some tartness. Clementines hints. 2018 vintage tastes very different. Much brighter with more tartness. Similar saison notes. Some lemongrass notes in there too. Both good
