3.9bottle @ Chief Market / Lima OH --- Hazy dirty golden amber, 2" white head, strips and strings of lace. Aroma of malt and bread. Taste is sweet malt and toffee that adds spice, yeast and carbonation on the swallow, following that with noticeable hops in a long fizzy, bitter finish. An American take on an Abbey Tripel. Recommended.
3.8On tap, poured into a snifter. The aroma is a mellow, tropical and grassy note with a dark spice to it. Some undertones include a light floral note, and some cookie dough comes in late. It pours a brilliant orange yellow and is topped by a dense, white foam retaining a wispy surface, moderate ring, and a moderate-light lace. The taste is a combination of medium high sweet with a medium level of bitter. The sweetness gets stronger and bitterness wanes as it warms. The beer is thick and oily with a soft fizz carbonation and a medium full body that’s tropical and spicy with additional notes of banana and cookie dough late. It finishes zippy with a spice kick followed by sweet citrus and light bread. The aftertaste is a clean, fresh spice.
4.0Originally rated on 11/30/14. Pours a clear golden with light white head and light white lacing. Nose of banana, clove, citrus, Belgian candy, fresh bread, light hops, and alcohol on the nose. Flavors of nice Belgian candy up front, banana and citrus fruits on the back, some lemon grass herbal notes, and a light hop and clove flavor on the aftertaste. Overall its a nice twist to the style, i liked it.
3.0Not a fan of the style, but one of the better beers in its class. Yeasty fruity like most triple beers. Pours cloudy yellow with a white head. Smells like fruit. Had at goose island wrigleyville
3.8From new Albany beer store. Pear nose and smooth feel. Can't read this writing. Damn program.
3.5On draft. Dark golden color with one finger head. Dark fruit, pear aroma. Pear, pepper, candy taste. Not my favorite of the style, but good.
3.3Cloudy peach pour, decent but very quick head. Nose is soft fruit and alcohol. Bittersweet. Middle is orange zest and light malt. Finish still has a lingering orange note that cannot hide the alcohol. Exuberant, but a little unbalanced.
3.3bottled, orange gold color , no head, aroma of sweet fruit, flavor of candied sugar, pineapple hops with ok finish
3.8A very nice triple. Pours a pretty golden. Aromas of Belgian candy, some funk and sour. Fruit too. Flavors are sweet and candy like with a nice hop finish. Dry and effervescent. Great stuff!
3.2Not a bad beer for a hopped up Tripel. I was expecting something a little more full and not as hoppy. For a 9%ABV I was surprised at how light it was. Overall, a decent beer.
3.64 oz pour on draft at B Side. Clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of citrus, light floral notes. Tastes of orange citrus fruit and peel, floral notes, herbs, spice. Medium body with a dry finish. Not really a typical tripel, somewhat pale ale-like with the citrus and floral notes.
3.8On tap at TJs. Gold pour with white head. Tropical fruit, citrus, cloves, earth, orange peel, bubblegum. Moderately sweet and bitter. Light carbonation on a creamy body. Trailing astringency.
4.0Bright light orange color, white bubbly head. Bubblegum, flower, citrus, candy and somewhat boozy taste. Smell is yeasty and maybe lemons. Quality Brew
3.5(bottle) Mark’s final offering for the anniversary dinner. A hopped up American-Belgian styled Tripel.
3.7Bottle from East Derry General Store. Aroma is citrus, bready yeast, hint of banana. Appearance is mostly clear (light sediment) golden yellow with nice sparkle, minimal white head and nice foamy lacing. Taste is mostly moderately sweet, like aroma with citrusy banana and a little bitterness. Palate is medium bodied, creamy texture with lively carbonation with a little bite to it on the tongue with dry balanced sweet/bitter finish.
3.6Aroma bread, dough, banana, clove,
Appearance golden, hazy, cloudy, white foam,
Taste lightly bitter,
Palate medium body, fizzy,
Overall a good triple that I would suggest to a friend
4.0My Bottom Line:
Citrus, lime, banana and pine needles put together a beautifully aromatic New World Tripel.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam decorates the shiny pale yellow.
-The Citra doesn’t veer into cat litter realms, which I appreciate.
-Though bright, the fruitiness never gets blinding.
-Mouthfeel is relatively dry and fluffy.
-Bottle condition this at higher volumes of CO2 and I would consider using the word ’genius’.
On tap at the brewery.
3.0Pours a hazed gold with a small white head that settles into a nice solid rim and coating. Aroma is yeasty bread, bananas and spices. Taste is similar but with banana dialed back, some lemony citrus and a nice balance of bitterness. Alcohol is pretty well-disguised but it's warming. Just decent.
3.3Average beer. Probably won't get again. Look for other beers in this style.
3.1Bottle. Pours a fairly hazy dark golden color with a moderate off white head on there. Nose has has some banana, yeast, and hints of caramel at the end. Taste is pretty sweet and a bit doughy. Ok, but nothing special.
3.1pale yellow. almost no head. Aroma has green tea, pine and some table sugar. Sweet taste, crisp lemon, bread yeast, more tea at the finish. but not a bad beer.
3.1Pours a nice golden yellow, solid head. Nose is banana, alcohol. Taste is boozy, yeast, bitter orange peel, coriander, pretty dry. Decent, but combination of sweet alcohol and spicy bitterness doesn’t quite work. Much better tripels out there IMHO.
4.0Pours a three finger white head that stays forever leaving a good lace. Crystal clear pale straw color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Fruity Belgian yeast nose and flavor is citrus, sweet Belgian yeast and hints of spices. High ABV is hidden. $4.35 for a 12oz bottle from Bert’s Better Beers Hooksett, NH
1.6Smells acceptable and pours like a really good beldgy. No doubt after the first swig this is in yer face alky thing happening. Yes, tries to be as civilized as the real old country but fails to get there. Another triple domestic wannah bee - yah. Chalk this up as a strong ale baby. Not impressed; but numbed. Yes a typical Belgian yeast thing brewed in the good ol’ USA. Big happy in yer face deal, wew. Yea, there is some co2 but its drowned in the personality.
3.6Light golden pour with frothy head. Light fruit ester aroma. Moderately sweet from apple/pear flavors. Some moderate hops to balance. Not a lot of spice or yeast flavor. Like a sweet and fruity golden ale. Drinkable and enjoyable but not a fantastic trippel.
3.8Hazy golden beer out of the tap with only the barest white head. Nice spicy nose with some yeast and citrus notes. You can taste all the abv in this one. Bitter orange peel, coriander spice, a bit of pepper heat and a strong doughy yeast flavor. Syrupy mouth feel. Big, flavorful triple.
3.4Bottle. Pours a hazy golden straw color. Smells sweet, lots of sugar, yeast. A big, sweet malty taste. Can taste the alcohol on the back end as it warms. I really like the mouthfeel, though it finishes just shy of sticky sweet. Medium+ bodied; average carbonation.
3.0The aroma is yeasty and malty with spice. The appearance is golden with a small head. The taste is like aroma. The palate is typical. Overall it’s decent.
3.8Packs a punch with the style, heavy malt flavor with sugar and tropical fruit. For the heavy fan.
4.4Man, if only I could brew a tripel as solid as this! The pour is light and a little hazy. Very little head when poured at refrigeration temps (40F). A fantastic aroma with bready malts and that wonderful yeast yielding a subtle fruitiness and butterscotch. Mildly spicy. The taste is light and rather refreshing for a beer of this weight. The complexity of the yeast settles in quickly. Here the hop bill also rises to the forefront. The Citra gives the beer its light fruitiness. The Saaz keeps it in check with a nice dry spiciness. Wonderful. The mouthfeel is a little spritzy but not overly so. The mouthfeel balances the alcohol content which is barely noticeable except for a slight warming on the finish. Overall, a terrific tripel. Drinkable and complex. Certainly worthy of its Belgian heritage.
