Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen

Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen

Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August!
Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

3.0 Tap @ Gordon Biersch, Taipei. Cloudy yellow brown, reasonable head. Spicy wheat aroma. Big banana clove flavour. Smooth with sweet aftertaste. Decent enough hefe but lacking fizz.
3.5 6/6 on a flight at the Glendale location. Hazy straw colour, lingering white head. Aromas of orange, unripe banana, and smoked meat. Flavors of oatmeal with banana and nutmeg. Hints of orange, apple, and kandi. Dry finish. Well made, very good hefe.
3.2 [on tap at Gordon Biersch, DTW airport] Spicy phenolic clove and pepper aroma with some faint banana and base malt hiding in the background. Cloudy orange-amber under a persistent off-white, lacy blanket. Flavour begins with clove, but quickly becomes clovey bubblegum and eventually is a smooth banana. Bitterness is perceptible, but only just. There is a faint, candy (like those red, homemade candy lollipops) note in the background with the base malt and moderate wheat flavour. The wheat does also provide a little acidic brightness. Medium light body, medium carbonation, begins smooth and ends crisp.
2.9 On tap at the Atlanta brewpub. Not a favored style. Look: hazy golden body with an off-white head. Aroma: very fruity with a lot of citrus, some banana and a hint of yeast. Flavor: follows the aroma. More citrus and less clove than average for style. Mouthfeel: light-medium body and medium+ carbonation. Overall: fruity hefe.
3.7 Sampler from the flight of beers at the Washington, D.C. location. Unfiltered with heavy yeast and a hint of cloves.
3.1 On tap at Gordon Biersch, Taipei. Hazy golden/yellow with a white head. Slightly sweet with banana, spices and some wheat. Light and fairly refreshing.
3.6 On tap at Gordon Biersch on Peachtree in Midtown Atlanta. Good crisp and clean but unremarkable hefeweizen. A bit highly carbonated. Good wheat flavors coming through with a touch of clove. Adequately sweet without being cloying.
3.0 よくまとまってる、おいしい白
3.6 Draft at goodwood. Pours a cloudy yellow with minimal white head. Traditional hefe aroma of wheat spice banana and clove. Mild malt as well. The flavor is more of the same mic spiced wheat flavor with banana and it’s very smooth mildly bitter. Made very well.
2.8 This was a very mild German Hefeweizen it was good to drink for a warm summer day
2.8 Draught at SJ airport. Aroma is cloudy wheat. Flavour is sweet banana, a little sticky. Yeast and wheat in the finish.
3.1 This isn’t spot on but it’s pretty good. It’s cloudy, muddy orange in color w/ a head of mixed bubbles. It has a clovey aromatic quality and some banana comes out when you taste it. It’s a little bit sweet, sticky and heavy w/ mild carbonation for the style. If they fixed the texture, this would be spot on but this comes off as a bit unfinished as it is--though it does have a pretty nice flavor profile.
3.5 .5 liter pour at Gordon Biersch Park Lane. Poured a hazy golden color with a thin white top and a little lacing. Amazing taste of banana, clove and the distinctive wheat character. Medium carbonation, medium body. Cheers!
3.5 On tap @ Gordon Biersch San Jose. Milky orange pour with a white head. A bunch of banana and white pepper aromas. Some clove, coriander, and a bit of a smoked sausage thing going on as well. A lot of sweet bread dough. Flavor is slightly citrusy and tangy. A whole lot of bread and orange peel. Big time bubblegum and banana. A little grassy bitterness on the back end. Is a little better (spicer) as it warms up. Wanted to like this more.
4.0 On tap at Yard House Waikiki 201214. The first thing that I noticed about this beer was the aroma, sweet and full of ripe bananas. A little cloudy but that’s what you want in a Hefeweizen.
3.5 Pour from bottle. Good hefeweizen with a lot of spice. Love the aroma of this beer. I liked it better on tap, but it’s still a good beer. Could drink these all day.
3.2 Draught at G.B in San Fransisco. Small but lingering white head. Clowdy yellow typical Hefeweiss color. Big aroma from banana and a bit of cloves. Banana and fruity taste.
2.8 "ok for a hefe, but they’re still just not my preferred style. a little thin, but the flavor that is there is pretty nice...wheat, clove, banana, a little sweet. not bad."
3.2 On tap at Gordon Biersch, Atlanta. Clear yellow with white head. Smell is sweet malty with banana. Taste is sweet malty with banana and malt.
3.0 Bottle. Pours a clear orange with a hint of a gold hue and a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has lots of clove and sweet banana with a wheat backbone. Flavor has lots of clove as well with banana and wheat backing.
4.0 Poured from a bottle. Hefeweizen was the reason I started drinking beer. This reminded me why. terrific head, frothy and white. Lemon aroma, tart finish.
3.9 Transfer from BA review on 12-28-13- Served on tap in a pilsner glass Appearance – The beer is served a hazy yellow-straw color with a thick and billowy white head of three finger height. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is quite heavy of wheat and yeast. Along with these smells are aromas of coriander and clove as well as a little bit of a lemon and orange smells. Some sweet aroma, other then the citrus, are there as well with notes of bubblegum and some caramel. Taste – The taste begins with a rather bready and slightly grainy wheat flavor. Along with these tastes there is also flavors of orange and lemon right from the start. As the flavors advance, a yeasty and spicy flavor come to the tongue; with the spice mostly of clove and coriander, as would have been expected from the nose. Shortly following these tastes, a light banana comes to the tongue with the graininess becoming almost entirely subdued. The mix of resulting flavors takes the taste to its end where a rather smooth Hefe flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is on the lighter and slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher to average side. Both are quite appropriate for the wheat, yeast, and spice flavors of the brew and make a very easy drinking Hefeweizen; just as a Hefe of 5.5 % abv should be. Overall – A rather good Hefeweizen overall. Very easy drinking with a nice blend of flavors.
3.4 Bottle. Nice opaque orangey gold. Some lingering head. Bubbly. Subtle yeasty nose paired with some mustard scents. Full body. Tastes of strong banana, some clove, mustard. Pretty nice.
3.1 On tap at Gordon Biersch, Buffalo, NY. Hazy amber with the expected banana and clove taste; clean and refreshing.
2.6 Draft at DCA. Cloudy yellow orange, large fluffy white head. Aroma of banana and clove. Taste is banana juice. Seems artificial
3.1 Sweet-smelling hefe that doesn't suck. A standard wheat, but a decent flavor.
3.2 On tap. Slightly hazy golden pour with a white head. Aromas of banana and clove. Flavor is similar. Easy to drink and refreshing. Decent example of the style.
3.4 Draft. Hazy light golden body with a short white head. Aroma of banana and clove, toasted grain, light floral hops. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. Medium body, watery/slick texture, lively carbonation. A decent rendition of a German hefe. An acidic tang in the finish after a sweet start. Grainier than better hefes, but still clean enough to be enjoyable.
2.4 Doesn’t quite make it into the acceptably decent margin of 2.5. Light banana peel. Pours slightly hazy gold. Light sour finish and a hint of grain even. Tap at brewpub.
3.3 Tap pours cloudy yellow gold with white head. Aroma is clove, banana bread, wheat and fruity notes. Taste is banana, clove, light fruit, and wheat. Medium light body with sweet lightly tart finish.
