Gordon Biersch Maibock

The tradition of the Maibock beer began in the 14th century in Einbeck, Germany. This bock beer style was so popular the brewmaster was lured away by the Bavarians to replicate the style. Gordon Biersch Maibock is rich and full-bodied, emphasizing dark roasted, caramelized Munich malt and brewed in accordance to the German Purity Law of 1516.

2.9 about what i expect from GB. a little better than the average GB brew because it’s a style i like done reasonably well, just nothing to get excited about. for the style, just below average. light earthy hop aroma and good balance."
2.8 An ok maibock. A bit too sweet and one-note. Pours a nice amber with a thick white head. Smells sweet, with some marzipan and a hint of coconut. Taste is sweet all around, more marzipan, slightly nutty, but not much else. Had in the bottle at the Salt Lake City Airport.
2.6 Draft. Hazy amber color, small white head. Aroma of caramel. Taste starts as caramel, then turns very slightly sour.
4.1 Sampled on draft at the Las Vegas location this beer poured a murky dark amber color with a large creamy orange-white head that lingered forever and left great lacing. The aroma was sweet and yeasty with golden fruits. The flavor was sweet and tangy golden fruits, sugar, bread dough and a touch of booze. Long finish. Full body. Excellent.
3.3 Draft at Gordon Biersch Colombus in a 4 oz taster. Pours a clear amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel malts, lightly toasted, grass, mild floral hops, decent enough but not something to seek out.
3.1 Tap: Aroma has got a nice caramel note with a grassy hop texture intermingled. Appearance is a reddish/ brown with a minimal tan head that doesn’t stick around for long. Taste is very refreshing with a nice caramel malt texture and a good hop notes. Palate has got a medium carbonation with a roasted toasted aftertaste. Overall, decent stuff. Cheers!
3.6 Draft at the source: Gordon in surfside beach, sc. Smells like beer. Sweet caramel is hard to miss. Smooth hazy amber. Not bad at all.
3.2 On draft at the Mad Fox Maibock festival 2014. Pours a clear gold with an off white head. Malty nose with caramel notes. Sweet taste. Medium body with soft carbonation
3.1 Pour on tap at brewpub in LAX, clear dark orange pour with white head, aroma brought biscuit, bread, grass, hints of grain, touch of spice, yeast in there with a hint of floral notes, lots of caramel in the nose as well. Taste is a mix of caramel, bread, yeast, hints of slight red fruits, some spice, finishing fairly dry, spicy, slightly sweet.
3.1 Tap at Dulles pub. Pretty orange-brown color with a fine, tall head. Fruity, caramel nose. Sweet caramel flavor, rather one dimensional, malt straightforward but not quite cloying. Nicely bitter in the finish. Ok.
3.4 On tap at Gordon Biersch in KC. Poured a clear medium copper with a small head and minimal lacing. Aroma was sweet with caramel malt and dark fruit. Taste was the same as the smell with a slightly bitter finish.
3.2 March 2010. From bottle. Amber color with a white head. Caramel, malt, bread and fruit aromas. Caramel flavors, sweet finish.
3.4 From tap. Pours a light clear amber in color with no head. Aroma was sweet malt, caramel, bread and small amount of hops. All mild. Taste follows with a sweet caramel aftertaste.
3.2 Draft at Cleveland airport. The tap handle was still advertising their winter brew - this didn’t inspire confidence. But I was assured that this was the summer seasonal. I think it was probably a spring seasonal they couldn’t sell off yet, but OK, I’ll roll with it. Medium amber, nice head. Aroma was sweet caramel accented malts. Flavor matched. Sweetish, some balancing bittering hops on the finish. Maybe a hint of a floral note. Not bad, just not my thing.
3.6 Appearance was clear deep orangish gold with off white diminishing 1 finger head, slight spotty lacing. Aromas are sweet toffee roasted malts with hints of noble hops. Taste was sweet tangy spicey caramelize malt backbone then earthy spicey hops. Palate was soft creamy CO2 with medium body, then roasts toasty spicey sweet average length finish. Like this Maibock version.
3.6 Nice beer. Pours light amber little head some lacing. Not much nose. Aromas of cereal maybe a hint of fruity hops. Easy drinker. Taste light sweet land light bitter. Palate is slightly creamy with lively carbonation.
3.6 Pours a dark golden yellow with a nice white head. Aroma is bready and grain. Taste is a great malt profile with bready malts and a small hop bitterness in the finish.
3.2 Sweet, caramel malt aroma and flavor, with subtle flaora/herbal hops. Also some light bread malt flavor.
3.0 Clear golden amber pour with small off white head. Aroma of malts, bread and slight vanilla. Taste of malts, caramel, bread and faint hops on the finish. Slightly thin mouthfeel, not a bad beer, alcohol well hidden.
1.8 Draught at the RDU Brewpub. Pours a clear amber color with a moderate white head. Nose is very malty with some caramel and light toasting. Taste is creepily sweet - really not good. Not a fan of this in the slightest.
4.1 Good head with fine lacing. This brewery supposedly makes Costco’s private label beer, and if that is the case than it may be the best deal on the market. GB regularly bundles this Maibock with other German styles in a twelve pack.
3.2 Nose of toasted sweet cake bread caramel soft alcohol a little herbal notes maybe some wet dog? Pours golden amber thin head. Flavors of sweet toasted cake bread soft herbal notes a little peppery alcohol and some caramel. Smooth mouthfeel. Not bad really.
3.0 On tap at Gordon Biersch Maibock. Dark brown bodywith medium head. Nose is malty and caramel. Taste is roasty malts, nuts and quite alcy. Okay.
3.5 Pours amber color with 2 finger white head. Malt and caramel aromas. Malt and caramel dominate the flavor with some hop bitterness and an almost fruity spice. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Oxidized and hints of diacetyl
3.5 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Aroma: honey, toast, green apple Appearance: dark golden with a dense white head that dissipates to a thin ring Taste: toast, bready, slight floral, malty Palate: medium mouth feel, it is what I would expect for this beer style Overall: This is a big malty beer, not a style that I enjoy all that much.
3.6 Poured a half finger of head on a dark amber colored body. The aroma has a faint grain smell. The taste is nice and rich with roasted and caramel malt, it finishes with a mild bitterness. the texture is crisp with moderate carbonation. It’s lacking in the appearance and smell but the taste is pretty good.
3.2 Rich German malt nose with some muted spicy hop notes and a hint of heat and possibly tangerine. Pours a crystal clear deep copper color and low carbonation. The head is a light tan that dissipates quickly. The mouthfeel is surprisingly full and the fine carbonation seems to lift the pronounced hop flavor from the almost honey like sweet malt base. This is a very drinkable beer and is one of the hoppier German style beers.
3.3 Early march 2012. Solid bright amber. Blinding white head (small & compact) LOL. The fattest waddling lady on the history of serving just ’sauntered’ by. It’s a giant tottering fridge with a smile and tattooed eyebrows. This beer memory is all about this disaster. Her chin in on her mountainous tits - no fat neck either. LOL this is what’s really really funny on 1.5 hrs of sleep. I can see ’South San Fransisco’ in big white letters on a hill in the distance yet I have my own alive hill/Everest earthquaking by every 4 minutes. No sweat on the brow - a miracle! K, no food no sleep makes 1.125 beers turn into 7. Gotta say that this beer is pretty tasty. Wonderful sweetness with a soft mellow bitterness barely noticeable, bready, toasty but not quite almonds, perfectly balanced mellow spice here. caramel, light orange like fruit fades in and out. Could someone really get sucked into the engine like on the Lost pilot episode? Why am I listening to music I haven’t since Xmas parties at Kinuso? I think I blended the smell and taste things. Maria cannot bend hahaha! Oh well. I like this a lot as a crushable beer but I’m almost out if time. I have to get on a plane to Osaka with zero plans. I’m so fucked. Last passenger on. Fuck I have zero endurance. 12hr flight. What the hell am I doing??!? Damn subpar beer almost screwed me over.
2.6 Fairly average beer. Copper coloured, not much fizz, unremarkable taste. Not unpleasant.
4.0 Aroma is very oktoberfestish/ marzen style. The appearance is a medium dark amber color very clear. The taste is very malty much like an Oktoberfest style. Crisp and medium body. It’s a bit to sweet for the style but not a bad brew. Not bitter but nvery sweet. Worth a buy to taste maybe not a rebuy
