3.0 Farbe schwarz. Geruch säuerlich, alkoholisch mit leichten Röstanteilen. Im Geschmack dann röstig, leicht säuerlich. Ein bisschen schokoladig. Leider fehlt Mundschwere.
2.9 Geruch seltsam: süßlich und ein bisschen wie Brause. Geschmack relativ alkoholischen, aber auch nach Schokolade und im Nachgang etwas medizinisch, fast ein bisschen wie Campari. Interessant.
3.4 750ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Chocolately aroma, slightly leafy, nuttily, some cocoa, a tobacco touch. All flavours are almost identically reproduced in taste. Not flattering, not boring - nice.
3.6 Keg @ The Birch. Deep brown with a thick tan head. Nose of strong dark chocolate. Leaf pile. Wood. Cinnamon. Plenty of earth. Taste is interesting. Sort of just off choclolate, interesting. Earthy and dry with a creamy finish. Full and fat. Mellow botanicals. Fun.

3.3 Dunkelbraunes Bier mit ordentlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, Schokolade, Kaffee, Vanille. Geschmack ebenfalls röstmalzig, süß/fruchtig, Vanille, Schokolade.
2.9 A fine oatmeal stout, but nothing too interesting. Tastes and smells a bit like oatmeal, nothing much else. Had on tap at La Trappe.
2.8 Sample from Erica at p house, pours clearish brown color with no head or lace to note. Pretty thin mouth and body. Notes are roasted malt, grains, milk chocolate, and some oats but no real oatmeal flavor. Apple yeast or something in the nose. Not good
3.3 33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 10/2013 A gusher unexpected, one fourth went straight on my kitchen table. Aroma is musty with spices, some bitter cocoa and hints of bush leaves. Flavour is spicy with cocoa and peppery tones. Also some dark chocolate. Finishes with some rubbery bitterness. A bit watery and flat, not my thing.
3.0 Tap at Blue Palms, Hollywood. Good foam on a clear, deep cola pour. Weak lace. Sweet strawberry nose, short cake. Turns out almost all of the beers on tap at Blue Palms today had a strawberry nose. Must have decided to skip tap line cleaning this afternoon. Sweet cola and big grenadine comes through. Boozy, sweet body with sweeter strawberry. Strange. Thinner body. Sugary and cloying. Medicinal.
3.7 330 ml bottle. Pours a black colour with a thick white head. Strong aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, biscuit and cacao. Flavour of vanilla, chocolate biscuit, roasted malts, almonds and some mild berries. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Rich and tasty, aroma is very interesting as well.
3.1 Dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are malty with chocolate and coffee. Spicy and herbal with some alcohol. Flavours are chocolate malts with berries. Spicy with warming alcohol. A touch on the gritty side but still decent
3.5 500ml bottle at Maxs. Deep orange-black. Rim lacing beige head. Pronounced sweet chocolate dessert aroma, not roasty. Tastes overly sweet, very brownie like. Hardly a world class product....chocolate syrup. OK maybe, but definitely not worth a premium price.
3.2 Bottle 335 ml Aroma mild medium intense. Fairly soft, hint of wheat. Bit tart with some chocolate. Appearance Top: tanned creamy mid cap. Base: brown. Palate : soft smooth , good drinkability. Medium bodied. Average finish. Taste: very low hop profile. Caramel malts , slight tartness. Other notes: Mild, drinkable ale. Some chocolate with paired vanilla.

Corpo medio, effervescenza quasi nulla, struttura oleosa. Particolare, ma non mi ha fatto impazzire.
3.6 Tap. Pours deep, dark brown with thick, creamy off-white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is roast, lavender, pepper, grassy hops, coffee, plums, and light funk. Flavor is dry malts, dark fruit esters, and grassy hops with spice and floral notes; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.
3.8 Tap at Max’s Taphouse. Pours clear dark brown to black with ruby highlights, a large creamy tan head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is nutty, cookie, and toast malt with fruity esters and chocolate notes. Flavor is malt dominant with chocolate and spices, dates, chestnut and a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.6 Pours an almost black shade of red, no head. Smells like chocolate and alcohol. Spicy sweet chocolate. Smooth and almost creamy, with toffee notes and a hint of coffee. Slight fruit notes in the finish.
3.3 Draft at the Birch. The aroma is sweet like ice cream. And this drinks with a distinct dessert character -- sweet yet earthy and a little gritty. Lighter in body than I expected. (#4812, 11/3/2012)
3.6 Bottle 75 cl from erzbierschof.ch. Dark brown with moccha head. Aromas of chocolate, erthy, espresso, licorice. The taste is mild, with hints of praline, vanilla, cacao, black cherry, chestnut, raisin and molasses. The mouth is creamy, smooth, round, délicious. To sip.
4.3 Bottle @ eataly bologna. Tiny head on top, it pours dark. Taste: chocolate, liquorice and coffee but with a good bitterness at the same time. Great beer.
3.5 Dark with intense aroma of coffee, liquorice, chocolate and red ripe fruit. Taste is smooth and full bodied, great beer.
3.4 Dark brown color. Sweet aroma with cocoa, coffee and bready yeast. Sweet coffee and chocolate flavor with some sharp alcohol. Sweet milky impression.
3.2 Pours dark brown but turns black as it pools int he glass. Thin head at first but quickly recedes to nothing. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, wood, cranberry?, almost smells barrel aged. Taste is bitter yet sweet. Taste ends very abruptly though. Mouthfeel is thin, crisp and has a short to medium finish.
3.3 Marrone scuro impenetrabile con schiuma nocciola quasi assente. Naso intenso con note di cacao, caffè, liquirizia. Bocca secca, abbastanza calda, medio corpo......
3.8 Flip top bottle with carob. Wasn’t expecting much but this beer really works. Part of the Downtown LA Beer Crawl Italian Beer seminar led by Tomm Carroll. Light chocolate notes with a slight creaminess too.
3.5 Dark pour with a small head that hangs around for a while. Aroma of roasted malt. Some nuttiness in there too. Creamy mouth. Taste has some chocolate notes and some grain. Nice roast in there too. Slight vanilla too.
3.4 Bottle. Pours deep amber to brown with a small beige head. Aroma and flavor of chocolate and coffee. Balanced, smooth and lots of chocolate.
