Grainstore Ten Fifty

Grainstore Ten Fifty

Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.

A full strength mahogany coloured beer, which has a moreishness typical of a beer possessing the fine balance of pronounced hop bitterness & aroma against a natural malty sweetness, creating a deceivingly drinkable beer.

3.4 On cask at Stamford AFC - Deep rusty body, close white top. Nose is malt and caramel forward, lots of fruity berry notes. Taste is toffee, caramel and the fruity malt. Decent beer.
3.2 Cask at the Great Northern Hotel, Peterborough. Pours copper to chestnut brown with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, dark fruit. Medium sweetness, light bitterness, touch sour. Medium body, some stickiness to texture, soft carbonation. Finish is fruity, slightly dry.
3.1 Cask @ Montgomery’s Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours clear copper, white head. Aroma is lightly sweet, some honey. Taste is smooth, with a grainy, sweet, lightly bitter character. Some smooth honey / caramel nestled amongst a grainy malt base. S’alright.
3.1 Cask handpull at The Crosse Keys Bishopsgate as ’Grainstore Ten Fifty’, 5%. Dark amber, translucent, still with a light brown head which retains quite well and leaves droopy lacing. Aroma is wholemeal bread, some wet wood. Body is smooth with tingly carbonation for cask. Taste is quite sharp initially - some chemical, varnish, quite spicy and drying, astringent. Then a few waves of bready malt. More gluey astringency into the finish with a lasting breathy aftertaste. Maybe even a touch phenolic or smokey. It grew on me.
3.1 A clear dark amber pour with a small off white head. A caramel malt and fruit aroma, apples and plums. A sweet, very sweet, malty caramel taste with fruity flavours, apples and plum. A mellow lingering bitter finish.
3.9 Bottle shared with JMD at HNB 06.12.16. Dark orange. Uneven off-white head. Aroma and taste of dried fruits, apricot, sweet malt and sweet dessert wine. Very good. Low carbonation and round mouthfeel.
3.5 Cask at the Grape and Grain, Crystal Palace. Copper coloured pour with a light beige head. Orchard fruit and caramel aroma. Lots more orchard fruit in the flavour ably assisted by some plum jam, red apple, sweet malt and caramel. Nice.
3.3 Draught (cask) @ Angleterre, Helsinki. Nice amber colour. Great real ale fruity taste. With some bitter in the end. Some butterscotch from the malts and wood or maybe nuts.
3.1 Cask @Kitty’s. Pours mahogany color with a thick white head. Toffeeish, slightly woody, fruity aroma. Harsh hops, floral notes, dark fruits. Edit. Towards the finish of my glass it was a completely different beer, not harsh, merely hoppy with ripe fruits.
2.8 Cask at Kitty’s, Helsinki. Colour is clear light copper with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Some fruits, dryness, nuts, bitterness and malts.
3.5 (Cask at Kittys, 20151127) The beer poured amber and clear. Its head was small, white, dense and it lasted long. Aroma had fruitiness, grass, earth and toffee. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were earth, malts, fruitiness, toffee, molasses and bitterness. Aftertaste had malts, earth, grass and bitterness. A tasty hoppy ESB. A bit young cask perhaps but that’s not brewery to blame for.
3.4 Cask at JDW CW, London. It pours a clean golden color with a medium white head. aroma is fruity and crispy, lightly sweet with honey melon berries citrus caramel. Taste is also medium sweet and lightly grainy an crispy with notes of tangy citrus berries melon and biscuit. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, ok
3.6 Bottle shared in London at chriso’s to honour the presence of Gene. Pours crystal clear gold with a frothy off-white head. Lots of ripening berries in the snout, some grainy bread, orange. Medium sweet flavor with more citrus fruits, light rind, grains, hay. Light-medium bodiednwith fine carbonation. Finishes sweet, with more grainy bread, citrus fruits. Pretty tasty, really.
3.4 Bottle from the source. Clear golden amber big white head. Aroma of burnt caramel. Taste is lightly toasted caramel.
3.3 Toffee malts in the aroma. Mahogany body thin top. A nice full taste of hop fruit and caramel malt. Sweet to taste and with a good balance. A good accompaniment to watching Man City stick 4 past a Newcastle side that looked as weak at the back as ever.
4.2 Nice one. Mahogany appearance. Caramel grassy toffee flavours. Good strength and mild bite on the palate. Very moreish and will try again. Nice spicy hint to this one. Seconds pint better. Third pint even better..just gets better every time
3.3 Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear amber colour with a foamy white head. Aroma of toffee, some marzipan, berries, some fruit cake and spicy plum. Taste is fruity of toffee apple, pear, berries, raisin, subtle fruit cake and spicy hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A spicy fruit finish. A decent malty bitter with nice spicy fruit flavours and a good body. Ok.
3.3 Pours a clear mid brown with an off white head. Smells of the bakery and then toffee. Lovely rounded bitter taste.
3.4 Slightly hazy amber pint with a thick foamy head. Light malty smell. Flavour is a fairly standard bitter. Earthy malt, a bit of light fruit. There’s a citric bitter touch to it as well which livens it up a bit, especially the aftertaste.
3.4 (Grainstore Ten Fifty) Bottle 500ml from vipinvelp, many thanks Werner! Served into an english pint glass, ABV 5% Amber coloured beer, clear body, small off-white head with good retention, leaving medium lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, toffee, english hops, biscuit. Classic. Taste also of toffee, also red fruits in there, some biscuit and cookie dough, light marmalade, then a nice bitterness, long lasting and being present on the aftertaste too. Medium body with good carbonation. Nice.
3.1 Caramel, grass, floral, resin mahogany colour candy smell and pretty sweet. Tastes stronger than a 5% though
3.0 Mahogany clear color, off-white foam head. Light roasty aroma, some grass there. Light bitter taste, light roast, light earth. Decent bitter. (Velp 201502)
2.7 Bottle split in the hotel room in Tacoma, with Ferris, 07/11/14 thanks to James F for acquiring this bottle for us. Clear golden amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is peppered with diacetyl, candied fruit, vanilla. Taste comprises floral notes, lavendar, caramel. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with light hops and a prefume trace. Pretty Meh !
3.4 Aroma: intense bread and caramel malts. Appearance: clear amber, small, beiges, creamy head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: intense malty sweets continue, bread, caramel, grain, medium body, soft carbonation. Overall: very drinkable ESB, well balanced. Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn.
3.0 Bottle at Appellation. Pours clear amber, nose is sweet toffee, malty, taste is chewy toffee, sweet, crisp.
2.9 Bottle at tasting. Pours clear amber, thin creamy head. Aromas of toffee and butterscotch, taste is likewise. Bit dull.
3.0 50cl bottle at Appellation Wines Comely Bank tasting - this one from allmyvinyl. Appearance - amber with a cream head that falls away quite quickly. Nose - toffee, with just a suggestion of biscuits going on too. Taste - more toffee and maybe butterscotch. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a finish that is just too sweet. Overall - nothing wrong with it, it’s solid, but it’s nothing special. An ESB can have many more levels of complexity than this.
2.9 Clear bronze, ringed head. Coppery, caramel sweet. Clean bitter, soft toffee. No idea what they’re trying to offer here. Cooling clean and soapy climb towards the finish. Bottle, Appellation Tasting.
3.3 Clear brilliant reddish amber colour, dissipating white head. Aroma of straw, caramel, light green twigs, hint butterscotch. Sweet malty flavour, caramel, light biscuit, corn, honey. Malty finish, light straw, bit sweet buttery notes reminding of toast with butter and honey. Bit on the sweet side, but still an enjoyable Bitter. (From 50cL bottle @ home. Thanks for getting me the bottle, Benzai!)
