Grand Teton Bitch Creek ESB

Grand Teton Bitch Creek ESB

Bitch Creek perfectly balances big malt sweetness and robust hop flavor for a full bodied, satisfying mahogany ale. Like the stream for which it is named, our Bitch Creek ESB is full of character... Not for the timid.

2.7 Bottle at home from dwyerpg, many thanks! Reddish brown with massive off white head. Aroma of toffee, hay and some light citrus. A little bit stale hay/grass/citrus taste with toffee, vegetables and some grain.
2.7 May 27, 2016. Bottle at home, bottled October 22, 2015. Courtesy of dwyerpg, thanks! Light hazy reddish brown with a huge off-white head. Aroma is boiled celery, toffee, light citrus notes, grass. Taste is light sweet, vegetal, light malty, light bitterness. Finish is light biscuit with caramel hints and more vegetal notes. Light ot medium bodied, average carbonation.
3.5 I remember this being better when I lived near the source. Guess that’s what drinking 1000 beers between then and now will do. Pretty average this one. Overly carbonated and some nice nutty notes. Not too sweet but overall just boring. Some hoppy and appropriately bitter notes. Downright average.
3.5 Overcarbonated... but that leads to a never ending head. Strong pine bittering hops with a rye and dark malt backbone. A nice beer but only if you are a hop head. Aroma has a metallic note. I wouldn’t say this is balanced.
3.5 Nice 1" lite tan head... chunky.. drops quickly leaving nice lacing... brown body until its held up to the light.. dark cherry juice red... Definately dark for the style, but very pretty nonetheless. Aroma is toasted malts and piney hops.. brown malts are in the middle.. clean without a whole bunch of yeasty fruitiness... nose falls slightly short but is vastly different than most ESB’s. Flavor is nothing like an ESB... American Brown through and through... caramel and toasted biscuits.. more brown malts with grassy American hops. Big medium body.. and light carbonation... very lite diacetyl (and I hate butterscotch) mixes very nicely with the brown malts... Given the style, I would not even put this in the top 20 of ESB’s I’ve enjoyed, but again, this is no ESB. Much more akin to a West Coast take on an English Brown.
4.1 Had it on draft at Ballard Station. Crisp bitterness, roasted coffee, sprinkle of cocoa but back to crispness. Actually works as an ESB/Brown hybrid
3.3 Pours a rich brown from a bottle. Aroma right of the bat is medium-roast coffee. Flavor is similar, somewhat watery, with good bitterness there as well. Okay beer.
4.8 Had this on draft. Wasn’t sure what to expect from an "Extra Special Brown" but I really liked this. Excellent malt profile, hop aroma was minimal and had a pleasant bitterness in the finish. Definitely something I cold drink pints and pints of.
3.3 12 oz bottle pours dark brown with a tan foam head. Great aroma of floral hops with some roasted malt. Taste is coffee and pine. A little hoppy for a brown ale but not a bad mash up of styles.
3.0 Esb ale. あまい、ホッピーではなく、でも苦い
3.2 APPEARANCE - medium brown carmely color. NOSE - resinous hop scents. Could pass for a pale ale or many IPAs on the market. FLAVOR - Starts outlasting like a hoppy brown, then quickly starts to taste like a pale ale, while continuing to look like a brown ale.
3.4 Bottle. Deep amber/brown body with a frothy tan head. Aroma of caramel, roast, cherry, dough, grapefruit. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Taste of caramel, sweet bready malts, citrus.
3.2 Bitch creek is a medium red brown beer with a tan head of small bubbles. The aroma is a bit musty and earthy malt. Taste is initially sweet that turns into a roasted nutty malt which is mildly bitter in the finish. The body is smooth.
3.6 Draft pour pint at Special Brews. Pours brown with a patchy head and thick lacing. Definitely a brown ale. Extra Special Brown?? Must be. Has a pretty good roasted toasty bready flavor throughout. A bit of a dry nutty finish. Good malt forward medium body. Pretty good stuff.
3.5 Draft at SB. Pours a hazy dark brown with bright amber edges and a dense and creamy tan head. Big forward malty toasty molasses-y nose, lots of residuals in there. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Toasty, bread crusty, malty, brown-sugar-y mid palate. Long, slightly earthy sweet finish. Couldn’t figure out why this was so dark...turns out it’s a brown. For once I’ll side with the internet against the brewery about what their beer is.
3.8 A 12oz bottle that was bottled on 22 January 2015 and poured into a pint glass. It poured a dark brownish red colour with a slightly less than one finger creamy brown head that dissipates in less than a minute leaving stringy lacing. Aromas of sweet toasted bready malts, caramel and some dark fruits mainly plum and grape. Tasted mainly of sweet caramel mixed with some citrus hoppy flavours and a small amount of dark fruits. The aftertaste also gives a small blast of alcohol. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Overall, it was quite a nice brown ale. Maybe a tad bit sweet, but I would probably consider buying this again if I craved for some brown ale. Having said that, this is quite honestly probably the only bottle that’s made it to Hong Kong.
3.2 Bottle, brought back by a friend. Pours a rather clear, brownish beer with a big off white head on top. Aroma is very nutty, earthy and has a decent amount of caramel in there. Flavor is sweet, also some bitter citric touches, loads of earthy dry notes and cookies. Fairly interesting and a bit strange, but still quite ok. Decent.
4.2 Bitch creek is a cool beer that has a smooth aftertaste and is very fresh. Nice overall palate.
4.3 Slightly hoppy with less maltiness. Nice color but too hoppy. I would not buy this one Again. Not my favorite.
3.7 Pours mahogany color with a thick creamy white head that left plenty of lacing around the glass. The aroma is earthy, nutty, hops, toffee, and floral as well. The taste is similar but this beer does have a extremely unique flavor to it. As they say it is not for the timid. There is a lot of character with this beer and a significant hop kick as well.
3.3 Murky light brown pour with a large tan head. Aroma is woodsy, with toasted malts and caramel. Creamy body. Flavor is very malty, slightly metallic, nutty, floral hops. A little sweetness. Lingering, earthy and bitter finish. Good body, ok flavor, a little funky.
3.3 12 oz. bottle thanks to Mario. Aroma: molasses, floral, grass. Palate: bitter finish, sticky texture, average carbonation, medium body. Taste: sweet caramel malt into awesome fruity sweetness, finish is floral bitter. Overall, very smooth, but also pretty cloying. Like it.
3.7 Murky mahogany pour with a khaki creamy head. Sweet fruity esters. Plum, raisins, figs. Slight citrus note behind some roast and sweet biscuit malt note. Up front is sweet fruits rolling into roast before biscuit and dough notes are overwhelmed by the citrus hop presence. Medium light body matches the abv for this one. Not quite an "Extra Special Brown," but a tasty beer none the less.
4.0 Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deep brownish red color with a one finger head of billowy cream colored foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a fantastic level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass and on the surface of the brew. Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a lightly toasted malt smell along with some sweeter caramel and molasses smells. Along with these aromas comes some lighter hop smells, with the hop being mainly of an earthy smell, but also containing some lighter herbal smells as well. Taste – The taste begins with some sweeter caramel and molasses as well as some light toasted malty bready taste. Along with these flavors there is a little bit of a dark fruit flavor and a hint of a more earthy hop taste. As the taste advances the earthiness grows more intense with it being joined by some other flavors of a light grassy hop. With the earth gaining a decent intensity throughout and mixing rather nicely with the sweet and roast, one is left with a lightly dank bittered but sweeter taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the sweet and dankly bittered taste of the brew, the feel is really quite nice as it accentuates them nicely. Not only that, but it gives a more cask like feel to the brew, which, at least in my opinion, is the best way to enjoy an ESB. Overall – A nice and quite enjoyable ESB with a good blend of dank earthy hop, sweet, and toasted tastes. A nice drinker overall.
3.3 "this one stands out just a little from your average esb. a little more flavor, nothing different...just more. tasted fresher, with a nice hop aroma. 4/09 had again, darker than i remember, and just as hoppy...almost more pale-like than esb. nice ale...similar hop profile to the Sweetgrass."
3.5 This is a tasty, stronger brown ale. Not being too careful w/ my pour, this ended up muddy in the glass, more so than most bottle conditioned beers. It has a nice brown color though and a creamy white head of fine bubbles which leaves behind little spots of lace. This is one of those browns that combines roasty notes w/ a good deal of hop character. It smells a bit nutty, toasty and roasty and the hops really come out once you taste it. A small amount of sweetness brings out the pine character and it finishes resinously bitter on the tongue. This is a medium to full bodied beer, I’d say, w/ mild carbonation which works well w/ the combination of flavors. It is a pretty tasty brew overall though I do kind of wish it was just a touch lighter.
2.2 Thanks to Chris for bringing this over! The beer starts smooth malty, a bit dusty, smooth, fresh but not like an ESB should be. Not too easy to drink, quite dusty malty with a sweetish-bitter ending.
2.9 Many thanks to erzengel for sharing!! Pours an orange/red with a tan head. The smell is fruit, cardboard, a bit of nuttiness. The taste is nutty, a bit fruity, some tanginess, a bit dusty ending with some bitterness. Light+ in body with fine carbonation.
3.2 On tap at Parry's. I guess I shouldn't have drank this in the same week I had a Fuller's ESB, because it isn't in the same league at all. Medium brown body and 1/2 finger of head. Good lacing. Not a very distinctive aroma, but I pick out some caramel. Tastes of malt and maple nut.
3.6 Pours a nice dark ruby brown color with a frothy tan head. Aromas and flavors of toffee, caramel, chocolate and nuts along with good bitterness. Medium bodied. This is almost more of a Brown IPA rather than an Extra Special Brown. Very tasty nonetheless.
