3.4A very well made Pale Ale from Illinois. The Midwest struggles with this style, but not here.
2.0Pours a dark amber, lathered head sticks to the glass and slow to dissipate. Malt aroma. Plain malt with an acrid, sour hops flavor. Sticky mouthfeel.
2.5Julie really didn't like she thought it was crazy hoppy but it was only a 56 ibu. She gives it a 0'3
2.1Tap. Murky amber-copper pour with almost no head. Aromas are caramel, candied citrus and flowers. Tastes pretty bland. Very light bitterness. Faint caramel and citrus. Peppery finish with a bad aftertaste. Not good.
2.99/10/2014. On tab in Troy MI. Amber with a white head. Malty, caramel aromas with pine notes. Caramel flavors, malty finish. Bland at best.
3.6Pours a murky copper with a white foam head. Aroma is citrus hops. Flavor is the same, with plenty of dry bitterness. I thought this was better than the rating. A solid ipa.
2.84 oz draft sampler pours amber with a white head. Aroma of citrus, pine and caramel. Taste is malts and citrus.
2.8On tap @ the Granite City Food & Beer in the Indianapolis airport, concourse A. Light amber, thin off-white head. Aroma is caramel and light cooked peaches. Sweet caramel with a moderate aspirin bitterness. Not great.
2.6Tap, coppery golden color with a white head, seemed more like a pale ale to me than an IPA, either way it wasn’t very good.
2.9Really light for an ipa. Pretty lame. Grapefruit. Copper. No body. Not too hoppy.
3.1Reviewed from notes. Consumed June 9th, 2013.
The appearance is a golden/somewhat amber colored body with a moderate amount of carbonation that is seen rising, one finger white foamy head, light lacing surrounding the glass. The aroma has a strong malty presence up front with some hops trying to make a strong secondary take, but mainly stay subdued. The taste is sweet through the malts, sweet sticky aftertaste and finish. On the palate, its about a light to medium, somewhat sessionable, carbonation seems to be right on for the style and for me. Overall, is this really an EIPA, really? uh... ok, well, I thought it was more of an EPA, not bad, not spectacular, but hey, I’d probably have again.
3.0Draft clear golden. Nose most malt. Taste malt sweet followed by bitterness. Not very aromatic or flavorful. Some bitter finish.
2.512oz bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a thick foamy off white head. Aroma of sweet malts and faint earthy hops. Taste was thin, caramel malt, earthy, and not much bitterness.
1.5Another "bad batch" beer this July 4th. Decided to try this after the Batch 1000 DIPA sucked. SUCKER - this is the BASE of the DIPA....oops. This one actually sucked less, with a tiny hint of hops trying to get through, but failing miserably. On tap at Granite City, Orland Park, IL. Yuck.
3.5tap sampler in Troy, MI. Poured clear amber with a small off-white head. Floral hoppy aroma. Medium mouthfeel, average carbonation, not too dry but it does linger. Fruity malt flavour with some tart citrus hops.
3.220oz tap..probably closer to 16oz poured. Unfiltered orange-tan, big steady beige head. Classic English hop aroma. Rather watery in body, thin and lacking depth. Toasty, mellow citrus hop balance. Tastes like the mall IPA it is, pretty unimpressive.
2.5Tried at Granite City Brewery in Kansas City. Part of a flight. Found all of the beers to be watered down and mediocre at best.
2.2Tap at Granite City Wichita, the nose is surprisingly good, but the taste is malt forward and malt dominated.
2.7Tap. Pour is hazy yellow. Aroma of citrus but light. Taste is slightly hoppy.
3.3Bottle pour at a Twins game. I think the biggest characteristic of this beer is balance - even for an IPA.
3.2Pours a hazy orange with a medium creamy white head that laced. Aroma of pine, grapefruit and spicy hop notes. Flavor of mixed citrus, pine and cereal grains.
2.7Lots of sediment. Not sure if mines old. Nice color. Not very aromatic on the nose or palate. Mild on the hops. Ok overall.
2.9ONe of the better beers by Granite City is this somewhat flavourful IPA. Really not very interesting. Subdued.
3.3Aroma is pine, pine, pine. I?ve seen pine aroma described and maybe detected hints of it in other beers, but this was super piney. Taste was pine as well, but mild (especially next to the double IPA), and very drinkable for an IPA. Aftertaste is subtle and pleasant. Update: Good lacing, aroma is OK, bit sour overall. -1 taste. Pine Sol taste, 100%. Strange.
3.3Clear orange gold color with sticky thin white lacing. The nose has light citrus fruit characteristics...possibly kumquat. The flavors leave the palate with a mild clean finish. There is definitely a unique aspect to this particular beer.
3.1Had some rather faint scents of citrus, taste is similar, quite watered down, barely any bitter.
3.1On tap at CBF. Clear orange color. Thin white head without any lace. Citrusy grapefruit hop nose and flavor with mild hop bitterness that lingered.
2.7On tap at Granite City. Pours a dark copper color. I get this every time I go and am disappointed every time. Its not bad but lacks a distinct flavor and bitterness. My favorite of their beers but not something I would drink outside of the restaurant.
3.4Had it on tap at creve coeur, mo and it is one of my favorite ipa’s now. From what I’ve heard, each place brews it differently and the bottle isn’t great, but from what I had at the creve coeur spot I would consider it top 5 ipa’s I’ve had in awhile, a definite must try if you’re in the area. If not, I’m not sure what to tell you..
3.2A decent IPA and probably one of my favorite beers that I tried at Granite City. Aroma is hoppy which continues to the flavor. Mild bitterness with a light body.
