4.2 Batch 5 October 2016. Caged and corked 750ml bottle. It pours a hazy dark yellow with oodles of foam, awesome sticky lacing. The smell is of Brett, coriander, light cloves, hoppy..smells, overall, Very dry. Yummy aromas. Brett is almost as strong in the taste as the smell. Coriander and clove here, big hop bitterness, finishes dry to the bone. Lightish body, zesty carbonation. A true joy to sip on.
4.0 Shared bottle (batch 5). Hazy yellow colour, average white head. Aroma of grape, berries, hay, flowers, citrus, lemons, peaches. Taste is very light sweet, light to medium bitter, very light tart, grape, berry, hay, citrus, lemon, peach, spice, pepper, light barnyard, wood. Light bitter fruity, a bit woody finish. Light to medium body, average to lively carbonation. Very complex, balanced and drinkable saison with great brett characteristics.
3.9 750mL batch 2 bottled March 2014, drunk 2/8/18. Good clarity to this well-carbonated, deep bronze-copper-brass-golden beer. Still a large, white, well-retained head. Maltier than usual in the nose and extremely Brett-forward with light acetic and even, soft oak and lactic character. Malts seem pillowy and supple behind everything with a touch of cereal character, as well. Well-balanced and no alcohol or flaw. In the mouth it's still lively and perfectly carbonated. Great balance with tons of cherry and lime-like Brett notes. Has gained some lactic sourness over time and comes off more as a sour/wild ale with the saison characters now obscured, especially by the strong oak presence. No alcohol or flaw with a rich, creamy texture, great malt character and lingering lactic acidity and oak. 750mL batch 3 bottled December 2014, drunk 1/14/23, thanks Willrunforbeer! Clear brassy-maize-copper. Small, white head. BIG brett nose, oh yeah. Lots of bready malt, of course with big vanilla. Lemon and vanilla...no alcohol. Ok this is probably well past its prime. Soft, malty, lots of vanilla, pepper and bread. Malty, oxidized, bready. Eh, this is good and fruity and bretty but just too old with some bile and such.
3.9 Slightly hazy golden color. Aroma has fruity and floral yeasty brett notes. Taste is sweetish with floral notes. Dry mouthfeel, well balanced overall.
4.2 Beautiful cloudy yellow beer with nice white head on top. Some lacing sticks to the sides of the glass. Aroma has sweet fruits, wheat, oak wood, Brett yeast gives sour notes and light spices. Taste has sour distinct Brett yeast, spices, wheat, sweet fruity flavours, very balanced and easy to drink. Medium body and creamy high carbonation. Very good.
4.3 Bottle. Light to moderate grain and hay for the malt, light herbs and grass for the hops, moderate barnyard, dried leaves and dough for the yeast, with coriander and a hint of nutmeg in the background. Head is large, frothy, white, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy light yellow. Flavor starts moderately to heavily acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery, with a fizzy carbonation. This Saison's aroma is complex, in perfect balance, and is spot on for the style, and the flavor and feel pull everything together. Great beer
3.4 750ml bottle (named Arctic Saison, assuming that this is the same beer) pours a hazy golden color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is yeasty with some light fruits and grains. Taste is a fruity and malty sweetness with an earthy hop bitterness and a dry yeasty finish. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a quality saison that is well balanced. One of the better saisons I have sampled to date. Earlier Rating: 9/20/2015 Total Score: 3.5 750ml corked bottle poured into a tulip glass pours a light straw color with a 2 finger white head that retains well, but leaves little to no lacing on the glass. Aroma is of lemon and yeast with some other light fruits and spice. Taste is a light lemon sourness with a light fruity and malty sweet with some spice and herbal bitterness and a dry yeasty finish. Light body with good carbonation. Overall, this is a pretty decent saison with a good balanced of flavors.
4.6 Great saison. Unlike most saisons I’ve had recently, this one avoids the sweetness trap. Nice, very subtle spice character and leaves an overall dry finish.
4.0 Thanks to Geert De Ben. Fresh hay in aroma. Taste is brett and hay. Slightly sour. Maybe a tad too much yeast. Grainy mouthfeel. Nice moderate soap. Very nice Saison.
3.7 Thnx to geert ! Pours unclear blonde, small white head. Smell is funk, citrussy, bit woody, dry, mild usa-saison style acidity, brett. Taste is full, citrussy, brett, funk, woody, trough the brett. Very balanced and well made.
4.2 750ml brown bottle, corked and caged. Batch #5, October 2016. Yellow with light haziness. A sturdy short sitting white head on top, soft glass coating sheets of lace left behind. Aroma - brett, lemon. Taste - brett funk and some citrus. Dry and leathery end with soft oak notes behind everything. Nice natural feel to the carbonation and a medium body. Comes together amazingly well. Rating #3900
4.4 Nice first beer from Grassroots, can definitely feel the Anchorage strain of Brett. A good sipper to last awhile.
4.1 750ml caged and corked bottle. (Batch #5) Pours a cloudy gold-yellow with tiny yeast particles floating around and a large, foamy, long lasting, white head that leaves curtains of lace. Fruity aroma of tangerine, lemon, orange, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, wheat malt, Brett, yeast, oak and black pepper. Sweet fruity flavour of lemon, orange peel, tangerine, lime, grapefruit, apple, pear, peach, pineapple, white wine, Brett, black pepper and grass with a dry, tart, slightly acidic finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. An excellent saison. Very refreshing and tasty.
4.7 Batch 2 March 2014
4.2 Hazy, beige, big thick head. Fresh yeasty note, soft malts, refined, nice dusty yeast, spicy hop, really refined.
4.1 Pours slightly hazed gold into a shaker. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface. Lemon and Brett aromas. Sharp with lemon peel and sourdough upfront turning to tart Brett before the medium length earth finish.
4.5 Pours a golden color with sudsy white head. Dry musty Orval like aroma. Soft texture. Dry musty almost funky; lightly sweet, orange peel notes. Fantastical complex and subtle. Reminds me of Orval. Notes: Bottle from my AK trip, May '17, opened Nov '17.
3.8 (750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of herbs, barnyard, peach, lemon, and grapefruit. Flavor of oak, brett, herbs, pepper, straw, and grass with a dry, bitter finish.
3.8 Tap into a wineglass showing two fingers of clean white foam with moderately filtered bright yellow. The nose shows light notes of bretty funk and Belgian yeast with a moderately intense bready malt backbone. The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Clean and refreshing with a very light hollow malt backbone and a very mild bitterness on the finish.
3.1 7/20/2013 750ml corked and caged bottle poured into a Noda snifter. A~ glowing piss yellow haha. nice fluffy white head and a little bit of lacing. S~ lots of bready yeast up front. followed by pils malt and some zesty rye. also some floral notes and leathery brett funk. T~ pretty much follows the nose, extremely floral here! also a little citrus comes through, lemon, tangerine, lime, and orange zest. i think i was mistaking the rye in the smell with orange zest, every time i smell something zesty i always think rye. nice brett funk on the finish. very much like Arthur, which this recipe is supposably based off of. M~ extremely well carbonated, smooth, and very refreshing! O~ i love how you can really tell that both Grassroots and Anchorage had something to do with this. even in a blind tasting i’m sure i could point it out. it has the amazing citrus smoothness and carbonation of Arthur, and the incredible brett characteristics of Galaxy White IPA. i’ve never had anything from either of these breweries that hasn’t exceeded my expectations!
3.5 Very light and hazy yellow with frothy head. Acidous nose and lots of citrus in the taste. Almost grapefruit. Palate rather short.
4.0 (Bottle) Golden colour, slightly hazy, with big frothy white head. Fruity, spicy nose with notes of citrus, lemon, pineapple, grass, white bread, some oak wood and a light acidity. Fruity, spicy taste with grapefruit, lemon peel, white bread, grass, some spicy yeast, hay, a touch of wood and a slightly tart finish with a balanced citric/floral bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty, refreshing, slightly spicy and in perfect balance. Excellent saison.
3.7 Draught. Pours cloudy gold with a medium white head. Aroma is oak, Brett, leather, earth, bread, spice, and light lemon. Taste is faintly tart; earth, bread, pepper, light pineapple, some overripe pear, and a light herbalness. Dry. Moderate bitterness - decreases as the beer warms. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. Arctic Saison is at its best just slightly chilled. [Review adjusted from Batch #5 750mL bottle]
3.8 Very pretty clean bright straw blonde pour with two fingers of lacing white head. Nose is very bretty with some horse blanket, musty notes, hints of pineapple, earthy, and soft bready tones. Sharp citrus pith in the flavor with lots of funk, grassy, hint of acidity, peppery. Bone dry and effervescent.
4.1 2014 Bottle from Gambrinus...Batch 4 I believe. Pours a hazy gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Lovely apricot forward nose with pineapple and brett aromas. Clean and crisp with active carbonation. Lots of fruit that leads to a dry, fruity finish. Easy drinking and wonderful paired with food.
3.9 Consumed for “Drink It Now” day, hosted by GenDV138. Batch 2, 2014. Poured a hazy, yellow-orange color, medium sized white head. Aroma was light peppery funk notes. Light herbal character. Touch of lemon citrus. Light funky notes. Pleasant, crisp tartness. Tasty.
4.0 750 ml bottle shared for Allagash’s Drink It Now Day. Batch 2, 2014. Mostly clear golden yellow with off-white head. Aromas of peppery notes, funk, light citrus. Tastes of peppery notes, herbs, spice, citrus, light funk, light tartness. Medium body with a dry finish.
4.0 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Łódź panel #17 No Hill Farmstead, tylko więcej ciała i mniej kwasowości niż w klasykach z Vermont.
3.7 From notes. Enjoyed at a small get together at Doug’s for the National Championship game with Travis and Chris on January 09. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a brighter golden yellow with a thick pillowy white head that falls down with a decent lace left behind. The aroma is incredibly funky. There is a good lemon zest, a hint of spicy yeast, a light grassiness, and a strong floral addition to it. The fink really dominates. I like that this doesn’t have the clove. The flavor is much of the same. Really funky, lightly fruity, a hint spicy, and very well balanced. The mouth feel is light and crisp with a softer carbonation and a lingeringly funky, grassy, and lightly herbal finish. It’s not terrible, but I know this isn’t my jam.
