3.7750 ml. shared bottle. Pours a somewhat hazy amber with a nice off-white head. Aroma of fruit and funk. Taste is citrus, stone fruit, malt, and funk. Nice tart Saison.
3.6Bottle shared by a friend. Clear gold to amber in color with a thin white head. Aroma of malt, funk, tart fruit and apricot. Malty and funky flavor with sour citrus before an apricot finish.
3.8Amber pour with no head on 3.24.14 and a few more times after. Smell is sour and yeasty. Flavor is the same - fairly tart. Not much to it but the sourness is nice. Very drinkable and seems to be best after aging.
4.1November 22, 2015. Bottle at home, bottled august 2012. Received in a trade with Leighton, thanks!
Hazy amber with a large fizzy white head. Aroma is funky with a toffee overnote, hay, earthy woody and herbal notes, grape and apple skins, lemon juice, some minerals as well.
Taste is very light sweet biscuity, sour lemon character and some dry wood and grape skins. Finish sour with lemon juice, grape skins, dry earthy herbal notes, biscuity toffee notes, minerals and funky barnyard. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation.
Great funky saison with a nice sweet toffee touch, has developed well.
3.7Bottle - Sweet, floral and grassy notes. Cloudy gold with a nice white head. Tart, funky, white grape and a nice sweet tartness. Not sure what the "Amber" means, no hints here.
3.6Bottle. Clear amber pour with an off white head. Mild stone fruit and caramel bouquet. A bit water with vinegar, malt, cereal, and faint apricot highlights. Not overly sour. Average body and mouthfeel.
3.7750 mL bottle. Reviewed from notes. Big head. Great retention. Chunky surface foam. Mostly clear amber body. Bretty aroma. Lemony acidity. Earthy notes from the brett. Bready malts in the nose, be even more prominent in the taste. Some tang from the brett. Lemony. Grainy malt and a little caramel. Well carbonated. Easy drinking. Medium light body.
Good saison characteristics, but nothing extraordinary. The light tanginess keeps it interesting.
3.8Bottle, from SlovakSniper (thanks Pat!). Reddish orange, very lively off white head. Tart, but with a light honey sweetness, unripened stonefruits, light citrus. Light lactic acidity. A tart saison, but one that I really enjoyed.
3.9Poured from a 750ml bottle, thanks to brokensail. There is a musty funk, lemon, apple, malty, a soft acetic note. This is a tasty beer.
3.2Almost flat, very low carb. Pours a murky Amber with zero head. Aroma of foggy wet dough. Lightly tart. A touch of funk. Thin mouthfeel. Low carb kills this beer. Meh.
4.1750ml bottle, beautifully aged by oteyj. Not sure of the vintage, but definitely had 1+ years on it. Poured a gorgeous light walnut color, frothy off-white head. Nose and flavor held beautiful chestnut, fig, wheat, sourdough, pinot noir, and lightly funky oak character. Ultra dry. As reminiscent as the good bottles of Fantome as I’ve ever come across from an American brewery. Singular and delicious.
4.1750mL bottle, unsure of date, shared by Bill on 7/25/15.
First medium-malts saison I’ve had in a while....Amber, good clarity with an off-white head that is well-retained.
Cherryskin, soft vanilla, light lactic touches and a warm baked sourdough breadiness are moderately well-integrated. Bits of appke-like esters with some light bitter grassiness and floral notes on the end. No alcohol or flaws. Very pleasant.
Flavor is wonderfully expressive of the darker malts....I keep sipping seeing if I find any out-of-balance caramel, sourdough or heavy sweetness, but no. The malts provide a good graininess, crusty, dry brown bread and then leave the yeasts alone to add cherry and apple fruits, vanilla and very soft funk. Earthy, lightly chewy and wonderfully carbonated and attenuated as youd expect. Nothing flashy, but very well-constructed. Those are my favorite types of beers.
3.5Poured from bottle thanks Bill for the Ratebeer Farmhouse Magnum Tasting. Pours murky soft brown orange with a thin white head. Aromas of yeast earth caramel and citrus. Taste is fruity malt with hint of spice.
3.8750mL bottle brought by Bill, opened at Ratebeer Farmhouse Magnum Tasting v1. Thanks! Pours brownish orange gold with an off white head. Aroma is wheat, lemon, HFS funk. Flavor is caramel, lemon, cherry skin.
3.6September 24th, 2013 - The Sankt Hans Amber Saison was a treat served by a friend at a board game night, and impressed all much more than the board game did. The color is a murky, soft, brown-orange, heather at the edges, and effusive with buttery saffron notes in the smell. Yeast and white grape juice add a second and third dimension, with a full, fluffy smell and texture. The palate is on the light side, clear and quenching, and initially sour and carbonated. My first impression is that this resembles the Italian beer Panil, but a little flatter, and with the flavors and sourness reigned in. This saison also brings in more mandarin orange citrus, a light delicate palate, and tangerine to bring a hard-to-build balance.
3.8This poured a light hazy orange color with a white head. Aroma was of light Brett, lemony citrusy and caramel and cereal grains. Fla or was grain.y, light dust, Brett and orangey hops.
3.9Pours a cloudy Amber orange color. Yeasty earthy aroma some citrus zest. Taste is slightly sweet slightly tart. Grainy aftertaste. Medium body. Medium light carb.
3.6Bottle@home. Small head and light carbonated. Copper near clear. Flavour unit one; mead wort. Sour citrus dryness. Some stale flavours too. Wooden complex. Top dollar for the Crown ;)
3.5Bottle thanks to Leighton. Pours a hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity spicy yeasty aroma with weak hints of hops- Fruity malty spicy yeasty weak tart flavor. Has a fruity malty spicy yeasty weak tart finish.
3.9Bottle. Golden pour with some head. Funky aroma, light grape, fruit, and spice tones. Flavors follow, full flavored saison, and easy to drink.
3.6Bottle. Pours orange amber with a medium white head. Aroma of yeast, citrus, caramel, fruit and had some notes of spices. Flavor was lightly sweet and acidic with fruit, yeast, earth, funk, citrus, a bit of caramel and some mild spices. Medium body, soft carbonation, dry finish.
4.3Bottle at Epic Sour Tasting 2014 courtesy of somebody, thanks! Beautiful barnyard aroma complement funky fruit in the taste. I really liked this one.
4.0The beer is hazy and golden with a thick, white head. The aroma offers lemons, farmhouse funk, grape skins. Mild acidity with some citrus notes, floral and herbal notes as well. Light to medium in body. A touch of earth and some lemon rind counter a mild sweetness. Tasty.
2.8750 ml bottle shared with JulienHuxley, Borresteijn & caesar @ Julien’s Klein Maar Fijn tasting. Amber color, (very) cloudy, murky. No head. Aroma’s: sour, brett. Flavor: sour, with a light bitterness. Light bodied. Finish is dry, light bitter. No idea why this is called saison. Not so pleasant, alas.
3.3Bottled thx to Julien @ Julien’s neighbour is a metalhead according to Rob-tasting, small sample. Hazy amber color, medium off-white head. Aroma of peppery yeast, citrus, caramel, cookie. Slight sweet, bit dry, soft bitterness. Bit strange combination of flavors, not perfectly balanced. Ok stuff.
3.775cl Bottle, tfs JulienHuxley! Hazy light-amber colour, white head. Aroma is light sour, Brettanomyces, funk, apples, yeast, some caramel, reminded me of a really good Orval. Flavour is a lot more sour, lemons, funk, hay, yeast, hint of toast and caramel, tart lemony finish. Light-bodied, firm carbonation. Nice. Wouldn’t call this a saison though.
4.0Pour is slightly hazed golden amber with a foamy white head. Nose has lots of farmhouse yeast notes with fruity esters. Some lemon and white grape skins. Hints of caramel malt play in faintly. Taste is a bit more sweet, farmhouse yeast up front, soft body, caramel and sweet esters. Fruity and lemony notes play in back with moderate carb and a semi dry finish. Stronger farmhouse notes come out as it warms giving a nice balance and depth.
3.5(750ml bottle) Pours a hazy amber-orange body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of herbal, grass, citrus, florals, and barnyard. Flavor of citrus, white grape, florals, earthiness, brett, and caramel with a dry finish.
3.8Thanks GT2! Light brown pour, tan head, aroma of brett, taste is caramel, sour, funky, overall nice.
