Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale

Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale

Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty, deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character, at 7.7% alcohol by volume. Claymore will be available in six-packs and on draft through mid-April.

3.6 Can from Beer Reoublic. Dark pour with no real head, sweet caramel, alcohol, some dusty hop. Nice.

3.7 lattina 355 ml, schiuma beige fine media persistenza, color marrone intenso, al naso malto tostato caffè zucchero di canna, in bocca tanto malto zucchero abbrustolito uvetta cacao e leggere note affumicate, carbonazione moderata, corpo rotondo, lieve acidula, dolce con amaro moderato. Nonostante i 7,7% vol risulta molto bevibile. Molto molto buona. c. Beer-shop.it. 15.05.20
3.9 Birra davvero molto interessante. Maltata e con warm alcolico che entra nella bocca dello stomaco con dolcezza
2.5 N:caffè,torba,vaniglia G:tostatura prepotente,fin amaro
3.5 12 fl oz can from Thirsty the Beer Shop. Appearance is a cloudy dark chestnut brown, topped with a very tin layer of off-white froth which disappears almost immediately. Aroma is a mild mixture of malt, caramel and some toffee. Taste is similar, sweetish, malts and caramel, and an overlay of nutty scotch flavours. All in, flavours are not too distinct, but a bit muddled. Medium bodied.
3.9 Very nice stuff. A hint of smoke plus sweet tobacco. Black pour without much head or lacing. Some fig. Pours black without much head or lacing. A lot going on here - even a hint of anise. Tap at airport location.
3.7 Danke an DrNosha, aus der dose, im Geruch ein Hauch Alkohol der aber schnell verfliegt dann malzig Whiskey, im Geschmack malz Karamell etwas holzig Whiskey, etwas süß
3.7 12oz Dose. Rot-braunes Bier, flüchtiger Schaum. Schokolade und Scotch in der Nase. Ein Hauch Alkohol. Erstmal süss, dann Schokolade, Scotch und Melasse. Angebrannter Karamell. Geschmacklich durchaus rund. Im Abgang bleibt der Whiskey.
3.4 355ml bottle. Cloudy, dark chestnut colour with ruby glimmer and small, micropore, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Caramel malty aroma, notes of malt lozenge, dark caramel, a touch of toffee and roasted almonds. Taste is slightly dry, minimally sweet, caramel malty, notes of dark caramel, hints malt lozenge; lingering malty finish.
3.7 Can from Beer Republic. Aroma of rich maltiness, caramel, toffee, fruits. coffee. Medium body, sweet malty taste with some fruitiness. Good beer.
3.8 Almost black with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of bittersweet roasted malts and dark chocolate. Hints of coffee too.
3.7 Can from Beer Republic. Clear very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and dried fruit. Flavor is quite sweet and light bitter. Sweet and light bitter finish. Soft and oily. 291119
3.9 Deep toffee color with a light head and lace. Very lifted malty aroma. Creme Brûlée, cocoa and espresso coffee. Palate is rich and silky. It’s sweet but not cloying great balance. I’m not usually excited by Scotch Ales but this one will do it it for me. A very good example of the style.
3.5 Dark brown appearance. Aroma is sweet, roasted and malt. Flavour is brown sugar, sweet, roasted, and malt.
3.6 Can at home. Dark brown color, no head (ok super small and instantly gone). Aroma is malts, raisins, dark malts. Flavor is similar, dark candy sugar, brown bread. Maybe also a smoky note. Yeah definitely a touch of smoked malts. I like it. 7-3-7-4-15
3.5 07-08-19 // can shared with the local crew. Thanks! Classic malt forward Scotch Ale. Very well malt balanced. Not as deep as an Old Chub for example.
3.3 Can from Cotteridge Wines and drunk on a picnic blanket. Dark dark brown colour lasting tan head. Deep malty brown malt aroma. Hides abv well. A warming dark malty beer. Ok. Bit one dimensional
2.7 33cl can. Le Sous-Bock, Paris. July 2019.
3.6 12 oz. can poured to a fest chalice at home displaying a ruby highlighted, black/brown hue, a presentable layer of deep tan froth that reduced to a persistent ring & light film, with dots , dashes, and strands of lacing. The nose was malty, toasted & lightly roasted, mild grain, woodiness, & earthiness, with subtle chocolate & caramel, and slight tanginess. Medium bodied, with good carbonation, the taste was similar notes, adding toasted, roasted, and moderately earthy bitterness, decent alcohol presence, but not much in the way of distinctive style notes of peat and dark fruit. Rather tasty, but more as a high shilling Scottish than a Wee Heavy, imo.
3.5 Dark brown beer, head disippated straight away. Light nutty, malty aroma. Taste has malt, chocolate, a bit of kit, a hint of fruit. Rich, toasty finish. Looks rubbish but it's a good scotch ale once you start drinking it.
3.7 Can, 7.7%. Good malty aroma. Slightly roasted and nicely caramelly. Dark brown colour, seems clear. Small light brown head. The flavour is very malty, quite creamy. Slightly sweet. Does not taste much of alcohol. Creamy and papery finish.
3.7 35,5cl Can @ Boxbeers.com, Copenhagen, Denmark. Dark brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is toasted malt, sweet, chocolate. Taste is toasted malt, caramel, chocolate, toffee, nuts. Medium body, average to soft carbonation.
4.0 Aroma; roasted malts, black chocolate, dark syrup, malted earth. Look; pale beige head, about black body. Taste; roasted malts, chocolate, coffee mocca, caramel toffee, earthy leafy elements, syrup, - ends well malted, some herbs walking by. Feel; good body, softish co2. Overall; good ale wee malted. 3.0 Dark side of the Wee Heavies. Small head with nice roasted aroma. Coffee, bittersweet chocolate all come thru with a hint of soy sauce. It is a decent example of the style, but Founder's Dirty Bastard has a better malt.
3.1 Haven't really had that many Scotch Ales so far. The last couple in this style I enjoyed after not caring too much for my first few tries. This brew reverted back to the ho hum opinion I had of Scotch Ales.....so basically they are hit or miss for me. This one was just a bit outside. The aroma seemed skunky for being bottle on Jan. 18, 2010. Maybe this one needs to be fresh from the brewer or close to the bottled date? Flavors were mostly caramel malty with a good hop finish, almost an 8 there but not quite. Reminded me of a dunkel, or a maltier smoother version of Beck's Dark. Not a bad beer, just will be looking for more "traditional" Scotch's like Skullsplitter, etc
2.6 Pours a root beer color. No head at all. Malty caramel aroma. Caramel sweetness.
2.9 Bottle from Village Beer Merchant. Brown coloured. Malty, caramel, candied sugar, fairly sweet, bit of smoke. So-so.
3.6 Moje první zkušenost s tímto pivním stylem. Bohaté oříškovo-čokoládové aroma, barva rubínová až hnědá, plné tělo a říz se silnými tóny alkoholu a jemná krémová pěna. Spokojenost.
