Great Divide Double Wit

Great Divide Double Wit

Our more muscular take on the beloved white ales of Belgium. Unmalted wheat and Belgian malted barley give the beer a light body and straw hue, while coriander and curaçao provide the traditional notes of spice and light acidity. This cloudy, deceptively drinkable creation should be enjoyed without the addition of fruit.

3.9 22 oz from GTAgeek. Definite citrus and malty aroma. Coreander and citrus taste. My first experience with Great Divide, and I greatly look forward to enjoying their other selections.
3.7 22 oz bottle. Pours a dark, hazy orange with a huge fluffy head. The aroma is orange rinds, cloves and coriander. The flavor is malty with a significant citrus tartness. The palate is heavy, acidic with some carbonation and fine particulates. Overall, a strong but delicate example of the style.
3.6 Strong pineapple and banana nose. Cloudy golden, thin head. Medium body. Strong pineapple flavor with apricot hints. Light coriander finish. Alcohol not noticeable. Very fruity and delicious
3.5 Appearance: cloudy orange with a pithy head that slowly crawls up the sides of my glass. Lingers as a solid blanket pockmarked by small bubbles. Nose: yeast, doughy, and orangey; the orange is to be found in every nook and cranny. Coriander and nutmeg. Orange pith, slightly boozy, is heavy and rich. Green banana peel, lemon peel. Palate: surprisingly soft mouthfeel which does nothing to hide the intense orange bread notes. Immediately starts to dry the top of my tongue; orange pith and skins. Spice in the back and long in the breath. Over-ripe bananas parlay green banana peels. Touch of warmth in the finish of each swallow. Final Thoughts: not too shabby of an imperial/double Belgian-style wit, though I have tasted better.
2.8 Maybe a little better than your average beer. This is an example of a beer style where "double" isn’t a good thing. Alcohol content was way too obvious and the beer way too heavy to drink like a proper wit. I was not a fan, would not buy again.
3.5 22 oz. bottle from Randall’s. Pours a hazy pale straw color with a moderate white head that leaves some uneven lacing. Aroma of coriander, wheat, lemon citrus, perfume, floral notes, lemongrass, herbs, and spices. Flavor of lemon citrus, bananas, wheat, honey, sweet malts, lemongrass, coriander, herbs, and syrup. Sweeter than expected. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, floral mouthfeel. Lingering sweetness. Interesting beer and easy to drink.
3.7 Tasted from a bomber purchased in Littleton, Colorado. Hazy yellow/orange appearance with a white colored head that dissipates fairly quickly. Mostly citrusy elements in the aroma though you can also smell the wheat and the yeast. Flavor is maltier than most Witbier but that may be due to the higher alcohol that was achieved. Yeast, wheat, and citrus are the foremost elements of the flavor. Sweet finish and not much of an aftertaste.
3.5 Clear golden orange with a fizzy white head. Sweet orange, coriander, and caramel aroma and taste with an alcoholic presence.
2.7 Appearance: clear buttery gold that goes hazy, creamy white head. Aroma: spicy yeast, cloves, pepper, citrus, all over a bed of thick wheat. Taste: slightly bitter up front, with cream of wheat, cloves, a hint of cinnamon and anise, then citrus. Finish: medium length, with a tingle from all the spices. Notes: I like a Belgian white, but this was more a miss than a hit for me. Flavors were just a little on the strong side, and not as blended or complementary as I’d prefer. The palate was excellent.
2.7 Poured from bomber into short yard, slightly hazy yellow like most whites, smells like most whites too. A bit sweet/sour on the taste, not the best white I’ve had. Great Divide seems to be consistently mediocre.
3.1 An OK attempt at "imperializing" a style I don’t much care for. Heavy on spice notes, wheat, hints of orange zest. A little estery, not much, and a pretty heavy beer flavor-wise. Just above-average but certainly not GD’s best or something I plan on buying again.
2.7 On tap at Bocktown. This was a very average beer. Aroma was decent. All coriander and light candi sugar. Pour was a nice cloudy light orange with a 2 finger white head. Taste was a little weak. Thick and syrupy mouthfeel but not much comes out other than the coriander and spices. Very one dimensional. Medium to light carbonation. Wet malty aftertaste. One thing this beer does VERY well is hide the alcohol content. I would’ve guessed this was a regular 5-5.5% wit if I didn’t know better. That statement is both a compliment and a jab.
3.2 On tap at Bock Town. Light spicy nose with a bit of lemon grass, floral hops. Hazy pale amber with thin head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts tart with lactic-citric bite and lemony sour character. Bit of sweetness and honey, yeast esters, and light alcohol. Tart finish with light bitterness. OK but a bit odd for a wit.
3.5 Bottle. spicy / yeasty aroma. Straw colored hue with medium, dissipating head. Light body, flavor filled with wheat and pine and citrus, hints of spice. Nice aftertaste of coriander
3.4 Bomber. Pours hazy yellow with a well-formed white head and good lacing. The aroma is that of a strong wit, fairly true to style with wheat, orange peel, and coriander. The flavor is big wheat malt, earthiness, orange, lemon, bubblegum, and spice. Pretty tasty. Medium-full bodied for a wit with slight syrupiness. Solid overall, a good strong example of this style.
3.3 On tap at Mekong for the 15th Anniversary Party on 08/19/2010 as Great Divide Double Wheat. Clear caramel bdoy with a small rocky white head. Sweet malt and citrus hop aroma. Big citrus and caramel flavor. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.
3.5 Bottle. Moderate straw aroma for the malt, orange and lemon for the hops, lightly musty for the yeast, with hints of pear, clove and coriander. Head is small, fizzy/frothy, white with fair lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is crystal clear very light yellow/amber, but hazes up on the last pour. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, a little slick with a soft carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. This is a bold yet sprightly Belgian Witbier.
4.3 22 oz. Bottle Pours a hazy gold with a generous white head. The head is frothy and lasting. Laces fairly well. Has a GREAT aroma of citrus, sweet fruits, and corriander. I also get the wheat. Has a decent carbonation. A dry texture. The flavor is good. Has a sweet and tart mix. Its zesty. Has a medium body. The finish is good with a pleasing aftertaste. The aftertaste makes me want to drink more. However, I do taste a bit of the higher alcohol taste. this is a 8.1 %
3.8 Golden pour with light white head and lace. Aroma of candi sugar and wheat. Sweet wheat malt, light flavor of Belgian yeast and some abv. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Good beer
3.9 Bomber pours hazy deep gold with thin white head. The aroma is full of graininess, wheat, spices, a touch of bubble gum and lemon. Nice. The taste is similar with ample amounts of grains and wheat creating a base for sharper notes of yeasty spices and a spike of lemon. It stays sweet as the spicy yeast notes fade revealing a modest note of bubble gum as well as lingering graininess and wheat. Nice stuff.
3.8 22 ounce bottle - 6.99 Total Wine in Orlando, Florida. Appearance: Pours out a cloudy, straw-colored body with a large, lusciously foamy, white head. Smell: Aromatic nose of apricot with characteristic Begian yeast notes. The usual suspects are all here to a lesser degree: banana, coriander and bitter orange peel. Taste: overwhelmingly malty. (Duh, it’s a double, Einstein.) Secondary tastes are tanginess at first blending into a white pepper and corriander with other spices like cinnamon, clove and alspice. Spicy pleasant aftertaste. This is not a beer to drink quickly. Doing so spoils the amazingly long and luscious finish. Mouthfeel: Medium. Average carbonation.Creamy mouthfeel. Drinkability: Very good, however it must be drunk slow to enjoy. Pounding this beer down quickly short-circuits all the best parts of the experience: its complexity and finish.
3.5 Pours hazy dark golden color with white head. Aromas of wheat, corriander, lemon, dough and alcohol. Doughy and alcoholic flavor with lots of corriander and some citrus. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
4.1 Im really shocked to find out this ahs 8.1%abv. it does not taste like it at all, i dont know where the alcohol goes, but its definitely not in the flavor. Kind of reminds me of southampton double white, but a little better flavor and doe not have southamptons strange aftertaste. nice and clean but with more complexity than ive seen from most wits, double or otherwise. not the crappy-after a day at the beach-kind of wits that are nothing more than heffeweizens with some orange peel, this one is just what a white should be, just be casreful, because that 8.1 will come back to bite you in the keester after having too many of this delicous beer,
3.8 One of the first Great Divide beers I was really impressed with. It poured a hazy gold with a full white head. The taste was wheat and spices with some yeast added in...
2.9 Hazed gold with a lot of visible suspended particlues, big moussey white head, leaves chunks of foam as you go. Slightly metallic aroma with wheat, coriander, citrus. Tastes very metallic, almost like blood, with a good amount of coriander, toasty wheat, citrus notes. Pretty dominated by that off flavor. Has a bit of a harsh alcohol burn. Not undrinkably flawed, but a little disappointing.
3.5 Bottle. Cloudy gold. Moderate white head. Aroma is spicy and grainy with coriander, lemon, orange rind, wheat and sweet malt. Taste is spices, wheat, soft lemon, candied fruit, and yeast notes. Body is light-medium with a strong bubbly carbonation. Ends with more spices, sweet malt, coriander, spices, light lemon, and yeast. Rather enjoyable despite the higher alcohol level.
3.5 Aroma has hints of yeast, coriander, orange, and a lingering spicy tartness. Flavor is fruity with hints of spice, followed by a lingering tartness.
3.2 Bottle… Cloudy golden ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Decent retention. The bouquet is of spent mash and clove with a lesser component of white bread. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and jazzy carbonation. The flavor is of sweet pale malt and spicy clove. The finish is somewhat crisp, grainy and sweet.
3.0 The aroma is sweet and yeasty with coriander and clove spice. It also has wheat, incense, and fruit. The malt character is very present. The appearance is hazy gold with an average head. The taste is like the aroma with a touch of cigarette in the finish. The palate is smooth. Overall this is good but not great.
3.9 strong flavors of sweet malts, coriander, cloves and white pepper. highly fizzy et drinkable with lots of great flavor both up front and subtle.
