Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout - Chocolate Oak Aged

Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout - Chocolate Oak Aged

We toned down the hops a bit to allow cocoa nibs to contribute some pleasing bitterness, while vanilla notes from the oak combine with the cocoa to create an aroma and flavor akin to a gourmet chocolate bar. A dash of cayenne keeps things lively, adding just a bit of heat to the finish. A Yeti for summer? Hell yes.

4.3 Opaque black beer with a slight/medium dark brown head. Medium/heavy aroma; taste starts medium/heavy sweet and ends slightly bitter and dry. Loads of chocolate, mocha, roasted malts and coffee; with some oak as well. 8/5/9/4

En bouche, malt torréfié, cacao, piment fort grillé, grains de café. Arrière-goût de chocolat noir. Texture huileuse et un peu lisse, corps moyen.
3.1 Tap at engine 15. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Surprisingly light aroma - milk chocolate. Medium body, medium carb. Soy, espresso, dark chocolate, lemon. There boozy heat, and it comes off a little harsh. OK.
4.2 Bottle, courtesy of Nische, many thanks! Pours, well, the same as the regular Yeti. Aroma is more floral, some more green peppers, also some dark chocolate. Body is heavy, sweet, more dark chocolate, a little spicy, feels less complex though. Still an interesting and very good take on the Yeti.

4.5 Sometimes you stumble into good fortune. Great Divide and the Yeti imperial stouts have been personal favorites and I happened to find this 22 oz bomber at Spec's in Lubbock, TX. Couldn't stand to wait any longer so here we go. The label says the bottle was put up on 2/3/17, bought in October and opened in December. The raven black liquid pours into my Buffalo Bayou tulip glass. The head is the normal Yeti dark mahogany brown, plentiful and long lasting. Lifting to my nose I find chocolate (duh), raspberry and some earthiness. A good sip now, Holy crap. Outstanding. Molasses, chocolate malt, dark fruit, a hint of brown sugar, charred wood. Dense and deep. Very full in the mouth. A bit of bitterness afterwards. A little heat too, unusual. Really nice. Great Divide, you have met my expectations and then some.
4.3 Nearly black with a brown head. Roasted malt and chocolate with a nice oak backing. Bitter finish. Nice work
