3.4 Fresh can at Porterhouse Dublin (only 6 weeks old). Really deep copper pour, almost like a brown ale, dirty white head. Good pine, caramel, wood, and grapefruit pith on the nose. Big pine resin and thick caramalt upon tasting, rough pine and grapefruit bitterness, some woody notes and earthier spices in there. Bitter finish, bit abrasive. Medium body; if you like malt forward pale ales this could be a top one for you. Not to my taste, but enjoyable nevertheless.
3.8 Can. Pours clear hazel, large puffy tan head, dissipates slowly, nice clumpy lacing. Aroma is citrus, pine, grapefruit, roasty malts, bread, perhaps a note of coffee. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, pine, grapefruit, toasted bread, a note of toffee. Medium body, high carbonation. Nice brown IPA.
3.7 Pour is dark amber with a thick off white head. Nose is fruity with apricot and grapefruit. Good amount of malt sweetness. Taste is lots of malts that leave a hint of nutty chocolate and caramel in the mouth. Medium long lasting resinous hop bitterness. Some grapefruit notes too. Tasty pale ale!
3.0 Very dark and malty for a pale ale, almost has a hoppy brown feel. i find that the malt over powered the hops, interesting brew but not for me.
3.6 This beer reminds me of a tamer version of Pit Caribou’s American Brown Ale (which itself is a slightly tamer version of the RastafaYan from Noire et Blanche). It pours awful purdy, though I don’t know why it’s called a pale ale; it could pass for a porter, in a dark bar. Nose is pine and floral hops with some roasted notes in the background. Taste is caramel, coffee, roasted grain, a hint of liquorice, with nice floral and grapefruit hop nots, ending in a dry pine and bitter coffee finish. There’s something about this beer’s flavour profile that I really, really enjoy, however I will say both the hop and malt profile are a touch understated. This beer has a lot of great stuff going on, but none of it will knock your socks off. Still, I keep going back to it again and again - and at half the price of PC’s ABA, it’s definitely more than half the beer, in terms of quality.
2.6 473ml can from El Lúpulo Feroz, Oviedo. @home 05-07-2014. BBD: Oct 13. In short: a harsh dark ale. Pours dark mahogany copper ??? with frothy off white head. Long head retention, some nice lacing. Maty, caramel, roasty and some alcoholic aromas. Medium body, high carbonation, crispy texture. Taste is unbalanced, high alcohols in there, warming mouthfeel, roasty, caramel. Not at its prime.
3.3 2014/07/13 - Pours a clear, dark amber/mahogany colour with a thick, foamy, off white head that lingers. Aroma is pine, citrus, roasted nuts and caramel. Taste is pine, coffee roast, caramel and citrus. Mouthfeel is medium with average carbonation and a bitter citrus and roast finish.
3.6 Pours a deep copper, almost black with a large off white head. Aroma notes include rich toasted malts, liquorice, and spice. Tasting notes include caramels, and toffee malts. Not as malty as better APA’s, but not bad. Palate is medium, and some bitterness lingers. Not bad!
Fiche technique Style: American Pale Ale Format: 473 ml Taux d?alcool: 6%
3.1 473ml can from an LCBO in Toronto, ON. A mahogany brown pour with a billowing tan head - not what I was expecting - it says Pale Ale on the tin; a pleasantly hoppy aroma though with lots of pine; and a crisp fresh woody taste of a sweet, rather thin, malty body; and leaving a moreish bitter finish and a bitter chocolate aftertaste. The "Black IPA" category probably didn’t exist when this beer was created, but it would fit well there.
3.7 Can 473ml. [ As Great Lakes Brewing Devils Pale Ale 666 ]. Clear medium to dark brown - red amber color with a large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, nutty, moderate to heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, grass, dusty hops. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, hoppy, caramel, dusty hops. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20140405]

3.5 0.47 l can, thanks Sampo! Dark reddish brown color. Aromas of lemon, herbal tangerine, onion, pine, chocolate and nuts. Smooth bitter, chocolatey and nutty flavor with peppery, oniony and citrusy hops. Smooth palate. Fairly good combination of dark malts and citrusy & piney hops. Hop character is slightly too piney and oniony for my taste, still a good beer.
3.3 473 mL can. Pours a dark chocolate with nice lacing and a modest head that disappears quickly. Lost of toastedness on the nose and palate. Chocolatey! Nice long smooth toasted finish. Really well done. Recommended.
3.5 473 mL can. Pours medium brown with a thick lacy white cap. Plenty of dank, resinous hop aroma, medium caramel malts, subtle roast. Pine, toffee. Moderate plus body with a long palate coating mouth feel. Average carbonation. Caramel sweetness well offset by hop bittering. Delicious American Brown.
3.6 473 ml can. Pours dark clear copper color with a large head. Aroma of pine needles, citric fruits, grape fruits also, caramel malts, even some faint licorice notes on the background. Quite Cascadian Dark like aroma. Flavor of sweetish fruits, caramel, some sweetish malts, resinous hops and grass. Strong carbonation, lingering harsh bitter palate. Quite nice aroma, and not too bad flavor either, very nice and interesting. 4515
3.4 473 ml can. Pours a dark brown colour with a large, thick, foamy head. Aroma of toasted malts, perfume and grapefruit. Flavour of toasted malts, tangy citrusy bitterness, some baking powder, grapefruit and grass. Medium bodied, chewy mouthfeel and a bitter dry finish. Almost like a Black IPA, sort of.
3.5 473ml can. Slightly cloudy, chestnut colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Malty aroma, earthy hoppy overtones, hints of coniferes, a touch of lavender, bath salt. Taste is grassy, earthy, bitter hoppy, dark malty basis, minimally roasty, spicy. Kind of a black APA.
3.9 Ins Glas ergießt sich ein dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Der Geruch dominiert durch die fruchtige Herbe. Geschmack malzig, Karamell, exotisch fruchtig. klasse!
3.6 473ml can. Pours a dark ruby/caramel with a fluffy, dirty off-white, one finger head that laces nicely. Aroma has notes of yeast, bread, citrus, caramel, and tropical fruits. A lot going on. Taste is a mild bitter with hints of bread, grains, caramel, and some tropical citrus blended with a lingering bitterness on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Smooth and clean in the mouth making it easy drinking. Overall pretty good. A lot of flavour and big aroma creates a very enjoyable pale ale. Cheers!
3.4 purchased in a tall can from LCBO for $2.80. Decent price, decent beer, bitter finish. Overall good but not great. The brewery is a very good brewery, coming with some great beers, worth checking out what they have to sell at the brewery as they always coming out with some new stuff!
3.3 Cask - Caramel malts and earthy hops. Clear copper with a rich beige head. Nutty with some earthy hops and mild bitterness. Reminds me more of a classic ESB.
3.9 This is a very decent pale ale. Mahogany in appearance, thick creamy head. Smells of freshly cut grass and some earth. Tastes earthy as well, a little bit of citrusy zing, some metallic notes. Picked this up in Toronto in 2013.
3.5 473 ml can into a lager glass. Nothing traditionally pale about this, as it pours a very dark reddish-amber with a pillowy, lasting beige head and good amounts of lacing. Fruity nose with a bit of smokiness. Rich, caramel maltiness and a bit sticky on the palate. Pretty solid.
3.6 Can (473 ml). Extra from TheJester, thanks Andy! Dark amber (almost brown) with reddish reflects, medium mostly lasting beige head and good lacing. Aroma of fruity hops, malt, caramel, light smoked notes and resinous presence. Taste is slightly to moderately sweet with caramel, resinous, fruity notes, roasted presence and light bitterness. Light to medium body. Good carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Good American Pale Ale. Drinkable. Not to heavy. I liked it.
