Great Lakes Brewery Canuck Pale Ale

Great Lakes Brewery Canuck Pale Ale

Pale Ale

It’s been said that “Canada is the only country in the world that knows how to live without an identity.”

This beer doesn’t help much with that crisis.

From the fiercely irresponsible stereotypical image on the front of the can to the distinctly American style of the beer inside it – we’ve really made a mess of things.

What have we done? Sorry.

3.5 On tap at Bar Hop King Street TO. Hazy gold colour lasting white head. Decent apa. Good enough grapefruit and pine. Some bitterness. It's pretty good. Very session able. Without being outstanding.
3.5 Light beige orange unfiltered American style pale ale, light hop, not over powering citrus. Nice pale ale, but a bit to much citrus for my liking.
4.0 Pours a nice golden yellow with a very large frothy head. Last a long time. Body is very carbonated and kind of hazy. Aromas of orange, zest, citrus, and dry hops. Really smooth and thick body, with a nice fruity taste that the aromas hinted at. Finish is the best part of the beer for me though, very dry but flavorful, sweet and fruity. Really a nice all around pale ale that is very easy going, and excellent value coming in at under $3. Overall it's a great bear and I'm yet again very impressed by GLB!!!
2.9 I agree with previous comment... Seems to be much higher than 35 IBU's (as can shows), more than 40-44 (my guess). Too hoppy for an APA for my liking. ok beer. Good bang for buck for a "craft beer".
3.7 Is it cheating to make a solid, refreshing IPA, and then call it a pale ale to make it even more impressive? Refreshing and fresh hop profile plays bigger than the listed 35 ibu. Bready malt and a touch of soapiness round it out, with strong effervescence adding to the drinkability.
2.5 It pours orangey amber; the head is off white and foamy. The aroma has notes of: faint pineapple, and slight pine. The taste is medium bitter. The palate is light bodied with medium carbonation, and has a medium finish. Overall, incredibly forgettable.
4.0 Tries this one after baseball tonight. I was really impressed with the taste and the balance. A nice 'IPA'. Saw an article about this one on the LCBO website.
3.2 Cloudy orange colour with light head. Aroma is very faint what is there is light floral. Clean hop flavour and light bitter. Decent body.
4.1 This beer has an aroma bursting with tropical citrus flavours. By far the best part of the drink, and it’s just too bad the smell isn’t as strong upon letting it sit. Pours a nice cloudy yellow, though with minimal head and little lacing. Taste is pleasant, but it’s very subtle. Not much there. Palate is clean and thin, just the way I like my pale ales. Great beer, overall. Poured from a can into that good old Heineken glass. ... Whose Heineken glass is it?
3.6 March 2017 can picked up at LCBO in Ottawa so relatively fresh. Pours a clear golden with a medium white head leaves pretty nice lacing. Nose is of hops for sure but not in the flamboyant manner most modern APAs showcase them. Fruity but not juicy and far from grassy. Citrusy and piny. Taste is not quite dry but far from sweet with some cereals and more of the fruity hops. Light to medium bitterness. Body is light to medium, carbonation moderately high. Overall a more than fair pale ale that is just "oldschool" now but not overly so (no big caramel, whew!).
3.8 Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is grapefruit and pine. Flavours the same as aroma with a good balance of sweet and bitter hops. Nice clean enjoyable beer.
3.5 GLBs Canuck pale ale available year round at many LCBOs in tall cans 473ml for about $2.80. also available at the brewery on Toronto’s west borough Etobicoke. Good pale ale, nice flavour’s. Enjoy this beer when having some pre drinks with friends.
4.1 Grapefruit and a little pine meld with some bready malts. Fruity and hoppy and damn tasty. Classic west coast that never goes out of style. I’m surprised I have never rated this before.
2.9 Pours hazy light amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma is grapefruit and light malt. Taste is slightly bitter with notes of grapefruit rind, pine and grains. In the finish there’s some citrus and onion. Light body and medium-high carbonation. Although it’s called Canuck pale ale, it’s very much a west coast apa. It’s not really my thing.
3.4 Pours honey gold, mild haze. Big bubbly white head. A bit of sudsy lace. Nose of cedar, pine needles, grapefruit. Flavour carries a lot of the same, with notes of burnt grass hops, better than average citrus, with traces of peach and bubblegum. Quite clean, with minimal graininess. Alcohol is well hidden. Lots of peppery carbonation. Head retention could be better. Carries more bread than expected through the muted finish. Decent beer.
2.2 This pale poured a cloudy, orange with a big, bold, white head. Minimal lacing. Scents include grassy hops, malts and flowers. First swig was watery but quite flavourful. Flavours of grass and dough most prominent. Finish I lightly bitter with malty notes lingering.
4.2 Go to Pale Ale. Well balanced, hop intense ale with the right amount of carbonation.
3.3 From tap. Pours hazy yellow, small white head. Aroma is peachy and slight melon fruity. Lingering fruity. Crisp hoppy. Lingering citrusy and crisp hoppy far finish.
3.5 Strong and fresh. Well carbonated with opaque, sunset orange body. Grapefruit and tangerine sweetness in nose that closely matches taste. Weighted, hoppy flavour in balance and moderation that develops into a light lemon mouthful with some lingering bitterness.
3.9 Plechovka, thanx Karol. Mútnejšia orangžová farba, biela pekná pena. Vôňa sladová, citrusová, jemne ananás. V chuti sladový základ, plné telo, jemne citrusové tóny, ananás, grapefruti. Príjemná dlhá horká dochuť. Veľmi osviežujúce a prudko piteľné.
3.8 A staple in the Ontario market. Very well balanced, hop forward pale ale. Great beer to pair with baseball ;)
3.5 The go-to beer at GLB, easy to find around town, easy to drink full of flavour and a great hop flavour all around. Not too heavy or big, not too bitter, but also not boring. Its not going to knock you off your chair, but it is going to get ordered again and again.
3.5 Draught at The Craft Beer Market, Ottawa. Pours a clear medium gold, with a smallish off-white head, which lasts well and leaves very good lacing. The aroma offers light pine and fruity notes, along with smooth malt. Lime and pine up front give way to smooth caramel malt in the mid-palate. Pine hops give it a pleasing finish. A satisfying pale ale.
3.8 Translucent yellow-gold body with average head. Mild nose is crisp, refreshing grapefruit hops with piney backdrop, hints of caramel. Taste is sweet, citrusy, and well balanced. Slightly nutty bitter finish. Low to medium carbonation, smooth and easy-drinking. High quality product.
3.6 Rich amber coloured body with a copper glow and a nice, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of super fresh hops, earth, caramel and a touch of grain. Medium-bodied; Strong hop flavour at first with some subdued earth, toffee, caramel and rye flavours and a lot of fresh hop bitterness toward the end. Aftertaste shows a bit of grass, a lot of caramel and some toffee as well. Overall, a nice and respectable beer with a lot of fresh hop notes and some subtle caramelised sugar flavours throughout. I sampled this 50 cL can purchased from the LCBO on Wellngton (underground) near York Street a few hours ago on 08-August-2016 for CA$2,65 sampled in my hotel room a few hours later here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 08-August-2016.
3.2 Keg at Bar Hop. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Good lacing. Aroma of hay, minerals and apricot. Flavour of tonic water, grass and lemon. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Easy drinking, just ok.
3.2 Aroma: pine and grapefruit hors...apparence: hazy yellow ambler, huge White head...flavor: strong resinus hors. Grapefruit...
2.5 Flavours: pine, floral, citrus. Liked it, but would like a fuller body and less carbonation.
