Great Lakes Burning River

Great Lakes Burning River

A toast to the Cuyahoga River Fire! For rekindling an appreciation of the Great Lakes region’s natural resources (like the malt and hops illuminating this fresh Pale Ale).

Crisp and bright, with refreshing flickers of citrus and pine that ignite the senses (not our local waterways).

4.6 Very pleasant, drinkable pale ale. Smooth enough to go down easy but had just the right amount of flavor and bite.
3.5 Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Amber gold. Malty ginger aroma. Yeasty malt flavor. Mild finsih some white pepper and pine.
3.5 (12oz bottle) AROMA: hint of sweet corn, malt, yeast/dough, caramel/molasses, APPEARANCE: medium Amber, clear, slightly off-white head (hint orangey color) TASTE: toasted malt, some chocolate, bran, bread crust, some herbaceous, moderate hoppiness and bitterness, smokey dry finish. PALATE: medium body, good balance, fresh/crisp, smooth/watery, lingers on tongue/cheeks. OVERALL: solid ale with nice balance between roasted malt and bitter/tasty hops, enjoyable, not too heavy but robust enough to take your time drinking.
3.7 Bottle. Clear copper color with a caramel malt aroma. It has a nice clean mouth feel and is light bodied with just a hint of sweetness. Very drinkable. .
3.1 12oz bottle pours amber with small white head a bit of lacing, and a fair amount of sediment smells of citrus and malt, with the taste following the lead.
5.0 Absolute most satifying beer on the planet. The only way to have it better is to go to the brewry. Delish!!!
3.2 4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of malt, citrus. Tastes of big malt, light citrus. Medium body with a dry finish.
3.7 Mostly clear orange color with two fingers of white head and great lacing. Aroma is a mix of malt, herbal notes and a hint of citrus. Taste is similar. Malty notes up front with some caramel, then herbal and earthiness from the hops with a mild floral bitterness. Finishes dry with slight lingering bitterness. Medium/full bodied with medium carbonation. Well balanced with a nice hop character that accents flavors other than fruit.
3.0 Reddish pour with a medium tan head. Aroma is malty, sweet with some vegetable notes. Full bodied, very malty. Caramel finish, sticky mouthfeel. Decent but not great.
3.5 Golden pour, smaller head that left gobs of lace. Citrus, grapefruit peel, and Pine aroma. Grapefruit and pine up front, sweet caramel malt, citrus zest. Medium body, bitter drying finish. Balanced, but lacking punch.
3.5 pours a rich gold with a smallish white head. light lemon zest aroma with a hint of malt. moderate citrus hop taste with some malt presence. moderately bitter finish. Good!
3.3 Bottle. Pours golden orangish with off white head. aroma is sweet malt with a little fruity hops. taste is sweet toffee malt with a flower hop bitter finish. Not too bad.
3.6 Pours a dark amber color. Aromas of floral hops and something herbal. Flavor is hoppy, herbal with a tart start and a mellow dry finish.
3.6 Nice bready, malty aroma. Copper in color with a nice white head. Leaves nice lacing. Taste is really good, but this particular pale ale is more malty than hoppy. Pretty balanced though. Palate is medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a pretty decent pale, will get again.
3.2 Bottle. Past expiry date, which I didn’t notice at the store. Resin and apple aroma. Caramel and raisin taste, with past-their-prime resiny c-hops. Mild bitter finish. Would try again fresh.
4.3 Top notch pale ale. Dark copper colored. Bread and malt with a little caramel note in the background in the aroma and taste. A very nice malt backbone without being overly sweet. Decent hop bitterness with some citrus notes. Finishes with taste of pine resin. Lingering bitterness. Overall it’s exceptionally drinkable and flavorful for a pale ale. I’m not a huge fan of the style, preferring more hops, but this is a great beer.
3.8 *Old rating. Best before 07/27/12. Very nice and fresh brew. Crisp with lots of floralness, round and intense. Long moderate bitter and very fruity aftertaste. Great!
3.9 Very tasty. Not one of the more hoppy pale ales, but still balanced between bitter and malt sweet. Super easy drinking.
3.5 Poured from s bottle. Pours a clear orange-amber with a thin white ring. Light syrupy texture. Smooth mild citrus. Not harsh nor bitter. Very smooth and refreshing. Enjoyable.
2.6 Zero aroma. Little hop taste. Bitter. Very lackluster. Try it at the brewery when you take a tour. Otherwise there is no reason to grab this pale ever over other readily available pale ales...
4.0 Very nice pale ale. Had it too long ago for a written review. Ratings are from a single number I gave it some time ago.
2.9 I prefer to cook with this vs drink it. It’s got a very bitter profile, which isn’t something I tend to gravitate to anyway, but more than that, it just sits on the back of your tongue and annoys your taste buds. As a beer to cook with, though, the hoppiness works in its favor and doesn’t overpower whatever meat you use it with.
3.1 Very pale, very clear thick white lace. Mild hop smell. Rich mouth flavor, lasting palate. Ok, but too strong flavor without the nose.
2.5 Tap@Great Lakes brewpub, Cleveland, USA. Light slightly bitter aroma of berries. Copper color with minimal white head. Clear liquid. Medium/light taste with citrucy malts, some pine and hops. Bit artificial with medium taste spectrum and medium aftertaste with hops and sweeter malts. Medium/light palate and medium carbonation. Overall a bit artificial but drinkable.
3.6 Sampled at GABF 2015. In the tasting glass a hazy amber gold. Nose of light fruit with citrus. Medium body. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is caramel malts with a good dose of citrus hops and some peach or other stone fruit nuances. Lightly bitter finish. Very easy drinking. Kind of wish for a pint of this one.
3.6 Clear golden-amber with a light tan head. Lightly toasted grains, pine, orange citrus. Bitter, strong malt backbone. Medium body, fairly acidic, long finish. Cleaner. Good.
4.1 Pours a light amber with white head. Medium body. This is a toned down version of the chillwave. Light hop bitterness, peach, citrus, malt flavor. Really smooth and enjoyable.
3.7 Bottle. Foggy amber pour. Thinnish white head with almost no lacing. Nose is pine, caramel, citrus. Medium body. Resinous hop, nice caramel malt, and a little peach pokes through. Finish is slightly sweet. Tasty old school APA.
3.4 Pour from bottle, clear amber with fairly robust head that bubbles away with ease. Nose is malt and bright floral hop. Classic Great Lakes taste, showcasing both the malt and hop profiles, not letting one override the other. Very crisp, floral, gentle grapefruit atop a lucious malt presence, yet still a very light and refreshing body. Certainly not a new-era hop bomb, but a tasteful balance and nice drinkability.
3.1 Not a shockingly original pale ale, but a pretty good one. Pours bright orange with a lot of carbonation and average head. The aroma is citrus and malt. The flavor is citrus and malt, too, with slightly herbal/grassy notes. The finish is a little too sweet, but not enough to ruin it.
