Medium bodied and well hopped with dry, fruity aftertaste, this monumental India Pale Ale honors the hero from The War of 1812 who battled the enemy on Lake Erie.

4.0Is that apricot that I taste in the back of my throat? Not a bad ipa smooth and refreshing was expecting crap since it’s an ipa.
4.0Poured from 12 oz bottle into tulip glass. A 2" off white head drops slowly with moderate lacing. Color is cloudy orange with plenty of streaming carbonation. Aroma strongly citrus -- pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, also a bit of apple cider and biscuit dough. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and sticky with an astringent finish leaving some alcohol burn on the tongue and throat. Flavor is a little more balanced than the aroma -- hops are still predominate with orange, pineapple, lemon, pine, citrus peel, along with biscuit and cracker malts. Overall: a well done American IPA.
3.1I had it from the bottle. The aroma is pine hops, bread, and grapefruit. The taste is the same. It had a bitter and alcoholic bite. This was pretty standard but good.
2.9Not a bad beer. Great Lakes is one of my mostly drank beers and this one lives up to the night cap.
3.7Nice golden color; Medium body; Aroma of floral hops, some fruit, & citrus; Flavor of sweet malt, floral hops, tropical fruit, and citrus; Finish is only slightly bitter; Different - pretty decent.
3.1Bottle at GABF. Pours a clear orange with small white head. The aroma is pine and citrus. Medium body, wheat, pine, fruity hop, light bitterness, good.
3.1Appearance: Deep copper. Hazy. Thin layer of off white foam.
Nose: Lightly bitter with floral and citrus hops. Bright and a little bittersweet
Taste: medium to lighter roasted malt. Lightly sweet transitioning into floral and citrus bitters. Ending a bit citrus juicy
Body: medium and lively
Parting thoughts: Not a bad little IPA. Pretty by the numbers, but refreshing and drinkable.
3.612oz bottle pour dark gold quick fading white cap aroma floral and caramel taste is sw3eet with a bitter finish
3.612floz bottle (BBD 04.12.2017) bought as a single for $1.50, 7.7% ABV, 70 IBUs, poured into a mug glass. Appears amber in color with one finger of bubbly head. The aroma is mostly earthy, but also has some lemon zest. Body is medium-full, alcohol is not totally hidden behind the hops. Grapefruit, buttered toasted bread, and orange rind comprise a more of a bitter (moderate) than a fruity/juicy hop based American IPA. Pretty good stuff here. I like that there is some semblance of a malt presence. I would like the alcohol content to be about 1% lower though.
3.3Bottled From Meijer near Toledo. Medium, balanced hops, amber slightly lighter than alpha king, sweeter taste at the front and bitter finish.
3.3pilsner malt aromas with hints of hoppyness. gold and clear in color with nice long lasting head. taste is hop forward, notes of floral, woody, slight piney. underlying light caramel malt notes.
3.2Bottle from J’s. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Light peach aromas with lots of honey. Clean on the palate, but a tad boozy. More honey flavors. Sweet finish with a lingering honey and bitterness.
3.5Bottled. Pours clear deep golden with an average off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, florral hops and piney notes. Sweet flavor that ends up being more dry and bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A nice IPA indeed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
3.6Tasted from a 12oz. bottle. It poured a clear golden hue with a small white head. Aroma of hops, grapefruit, banana, and mild spice. Taste of hops and malt with a slightly bitter finish. A decent, mild mannered ipa.
3.4Bottled day-of from brewery. Clear, luminescent gold. Tangerine, orange, and papaya heavy on the nose, bit of candied lemon skin. Cereal and gently spiced malt. Flavor has a medium body with ripe lemon and orange, some papaya, whiteflower, and super soft notes of eucalyptus. Medium dry, noticeable malt presence. An easygoing, tamed IPA with an oily linger with some tinge of fresh alpha acid.
3.8Another fantastic beer from Great Lakes that doesn’t skimp on anything. Looks nice in the glass - hazy amber, white head. Nose is spicy hops, citrus and maybe pepper. The hop flavor is strong but not over-done, and with a definite tang. A really well-done brew that is not for the uninitiated but perfectly drinkable for IPA fans. Bonus points for being local and available all over the place here (NE Ohio), both bottled and on tap.
3.9Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #36. 12 ounce bottle consumed in early August 2008. Pours a very clear dark gold, smallish off-white fizzy head...while there’s fruity in the nose and hoppiness, it’s a less oily/juicier, drier sort of aroma, mixing apples, cherry, some light resinous elements and caramel...in the body it’s solidly, strongly bitter throughout, more juicy and fresh-fruity than the nose would predict, but not at all syrupy...lightly effervescent, perfectly carbonated with a lovely fullness of body and yet extremely quaffable. Very solid, bordering on excellent; I’ve had it a few times since but probably not since 2012 or so and really should give it another go.
4.1Pours golden orange with medium head. Very interesting aroma of malt (almost like wort, but in a pleasant way) coupled with ripe citrus fruit, in particular sweet oranges. Taste: very citrusy with a focus on oranges and lemon, followed by pleasant long hoppy aftertaste. Perfectly mirrors what English ipa is about. This beer is world-class.
3.8On tap and bottle poured into a tulip glass. Golden color with an off white head and little to no visible carbonation. Aroma is mildly citrus with hints of apricot, caramel malt, and pine. Taste is a heavier on the pine with some floral notes and is a little peppery. Nice medium body and low but biting carbonation. Definitely enjoyed this more on tap but from the bottle is good too. Remarkably well balanced.
3.0On tap at the Backyard Alehouse in Scranton. It pours a clear light golden color with an off white head. The aroma is lightly herbal with some grapefruit and citrus. The flavor is very herbal, lightly vegetal with some multigrain bread and toast. Biscuity malts. It’s a bit watery on the palate with low to medium bitterness. Meh.
3.7Amber thin white head; aroma is malt with notes of tea; flava is tangy hoppy malty some bitters some caramel and roastiness; feels medium with nice fizz; finishes mildly bitter balanced with malt sweetness
3.7On tap at Dockside Cafe. Pours Amber with white head. Wonderful and smooth. Balanced hop character.
3.3Bottle at beastcraft BBQ and craft beer in Belleville. Very slight aroma but pours out a nice looking light Amber color. Tastes smooth and refreshing with a very manageable hop bite that lasts well into the aftertaste. Excellent palate, very drinkable. I've never had a Great Lakes beer before, based on this I would give them another try.
3.5Bottle from Chevy Chase Wine and Liquor. Hazy amber body with medium white head. Nose is hoppy, floral, citrus. Taste is quite hoppy, some spices, and fruits. Enjoyable.
2.5Bottle courtesy of my man, Minh - at Lillian’s first birthday party! Assertive bitterness with not too much palatable hop flavors. Lots of sweet malt, grains and spice. Somewhat generic overall - or maybe just stale.
3.6Pours a nice deep amber color. Aromas of hops/hops/citrus. Strong hop flavors with malts and a dry finish.
