1.7 This just tastes funny. Sort of a watery, kinda minty, something-is-off flavor, kinda like sour milk. I don't know if it's because my palate is wrecked from just drinking a different beer (an inoffensive if not particularly good brown ale), or if I'm using the wrong glassware (teku glasses aren't the best for stouts), or what. Not the glassware, poured it into a dimpled mug and I'm getting the same thing. Maybe there's something wrong with this one, but from what I can tell, this is a bad beer.
3.5 On tap at Gilly’s in Rockville, MD. Just barely clear, very dark mahogany with a nice light tan head and good lacing. Aroma of oatmeal, caramel, light cocoa, light fruit and a little roasted malt. Taste of chocolate malt, oatmeal, caramel, more oatmeal and a number of interesting fruit flavors that roll in and out at the finish. Medium body and medium carbonation.
3.8 Pours dark brown with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma with coffee. Flavor is roasted malt and coffee with an underlying sweetness. Roasted finish.
3.6 12-ounce bottle pours nearly opaque dark brown with a small creamy tan head and residual lacing. Aroma: fresh-roasted coffee, brown sugar. Flavor: brown sugar, caramel, coffee, chocolate, toast, porridge. Mouthfeel: light- to medium-bodied, slightly creamy finish.
3.4 Pours black with a one finger, tan head. Aroma is coffee and roast. Taste is caramel, moving to coffee and roast. Finish is roast. A good oatmeal stout.
3.4 12 ounce bottle at the house. Smells sweet. Thin beige head, no film on glass. Taste sweet. A little lighter bodied for a stout. Slight taste of malt. Guess I can taste some oats. A little watery. Very drinkable. Decent beer. Cheers!
3.8 Solid oatmeal stout. I had this inadvisably after a long night of drinking other non beer nerd stuff but it was still refreshingly good despite what it likely added to my hangover. Roast and oatmeal with some honey. Fairly dry with sharp dark chocolate. Black pour with good head and lacing. Bitter end. Tap at All Souls Bar in DC.
3.5 Bottle from Franks. Brown coloured. Roasted malts, coffee, oats, light toastiness. Not bad.
2.9 Bottle from Wegmans. Pours hazy brown with min tan head. Roasty dark malt in the flavor, some grain in the flavor, pretty basic and quite frankly average at best.
3.4 Bottled. Dark pour. Sweet malt aroma. Oats brown sugar and roasted malts . Pretty good
4.5 Dark brown with a big tan head. Aroma of roasted malts. Taste is a little bitter and roasty with some coffee. Smooth and drinkable, medium body, soft carbonation. Good stout that I could drink everyday.
3.6 From tap. Pours pitch black, brown head. Aroma is roasted malty. Bitter, roasted. Dark breadish. Dry and roasted finish.
3.3 Bottle sampled in a glass, this stout was a very dark brown (almost black) in the glass and had a off-white / light tan cover of bubbles, the nose had roasted malt, cocoa, a little roasted grain and faint coffee, brown sugar and faint molasses, some lactose? the flavors were smooth roasted malt, some chocolate and coffee, brown sugar and faint molasses, there was a little bitterness at the finish, malt flavors and sweetness following, the mouth feel was light to less than medium, there was soft to average carbonation and it was creamy, a nice sweet stout.
4.2 Pours black with a foamy tan head with an aroma of cocoa and coffee. Tastes of slightly sweet cocoa and coffee. It has a sweet and toasty body. It’s medium bodied with minimal to moderate carbonation. Much bigger body than expected.
2.8 Appearance: Dark brown black. half a finger of tan foam. Nose: Semi sweet cocoa. Hints of roasted oats. Taste: Decently deeply roasted chocolate malt with oat aspects coming mid to finish. Smooth, even and bittersweet. Body: Medium to fuller with soft carbonation. Parting thoughts: This is a hard to come by beer in central ohio. Either limited production or distribution or both. I missed it last year so I snapped up a six as soon as it hit the shelves this year. I’m a little underwhelmed.
3.3 Pours opaque reddish black. Thin body. Roasted malt with notes of chocolate and coffee. Not much character actually. Not a bad beer at all but I expect more considering how awesome their Edmund Fitzgerald porter and blackout stout.
3.0 Dark brown with thin foamy lacy beige head Aroma slight grainy tangy roast Flava is tangy and moderately roasty Feels light with little fizz Finishes roasty dry tangy
3.5 12/30/21 - On tap @024 - reminded me of a less sour Guinness. 11/16/17 - Smooth, medium body oatmeal stout, very drinkable. Pours almost opaque dark red-brown. Nice roasted aroma. Taste is roasted malt, slightly sweet at first, with a dark roast coffee finish. Palate is slightly creamy, smooth, light. Overall, nice cool weather beer, on the light side for a stout.
3.6 Roasted malt aroma with a chocolate and hazelnut body. Sharp oatmeal finish.
4.1 12 floz bottle, BBD: 01.27.2018. $10 paid for a six-pack, poured this one into a mug glass where it appears near black with a tan head. It's bold with roastedness, yet it is restrained enough to not be overbearing. I think of the flavor as being like a smore made with a camp fire marshmallow. This is my kind of stout, it's good without being overwrought.
3.2 Dark pour with light head. Nose initially good. Thin on tongue and flavor lacking. An odd ‘off’ flavor exists in this one. More seeking to do......
3.2 Near black color pour, with a thick tan head. Aroma of grains, earthy hops, cocoa, and roasted malt. Bittersweet malty start. Some grain, and herbal hops. Thinner feel for a stout. Finish has some bitterness. OK, but nothing to get too excited about.
3.4 5.4% 25 I.B.U. Dark and roasty yet light and smooth as a fresh coat of snow, our Oatmeal Stout will kick your cabin fever and inspire you to toss another log on the fire. Oh, what fun it is to ride through a flurry of flaked oats o’er a field of rich roasted malt flavors!
4.4 Taps opaque coffee with a nice fine-bubbled tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma offers roast quality coffee, roast malt, oatmeal, molasses and subtle chocolate tones. Flavor delivers coffee, roast malt, oatmeal, molasses and chocolate notes for one fantastic Oatmeal Stout. I am a sucker for this style! Mouthfeel features firm, viscous body and peppy fizz. Three cheers for Ohio City - and may the Indians win the World Series within a few years.
3.6 Thick pour with a fine layer of foam. Oats, oatmeal, sweet cocoa and a nice woodsy aroma. Simple palate, lighter, with a good dose of oats and sweet malts.
3.8 Draft pour at Great Lakes Brewing. Poured a nearly pitch black, brown color with a small tan head. Aroma was creamy grains, this one was seriously roasted. Bakers Chocolate, slightly earthy. Really nice.
3.4 Bottle. Dark dense pour with a smaller head. Oats, mild roast, and lactose in the aroma. Taste is light sweetness. Not bad.
3.4 Growler fill from GAT Beer in NE Philadelphia. Pours semi-opaque cola brown with a 3-finger tan head. Aroma of cocoa with a bit of char. Medium body, soft mouthfeel, with a dry finish. Dark-roasted malt favor with chocolate and coffee notes.
3.4 12 oz. bottle at Purple Fiddle. Poured deep brown with ring of khaki head. Sweet malt with black licorice, cocoa, chocolate.
3.6 mostly burnt roast with a sweeter milky finish. aroma is roasty and present. thin small brown head that sticks to the side. overall this is slightly above average.
