3.7 Draft. Bottle. Aroma of sweet caram will, malty. Flavor is cherry syrup, crisp hippy palate.
3.8 Appearance: clear copper amber with a creamy near-white head and decent lacing. Aroma: citrus and pine, with a light caramel malt note. Taste: citrus (grapefruit), apricot, light resin, with a firm caramel and brown bread malt bill, accented by just a bit of rye heat. Finish: not overly bitter, with some pleasantly lasting hop aromatics over the malt sweetness; nicely dry. Notes: Really well done. Balanced flavors, good palate, rye just there enough to be noticed. Bottle from Westover Market, Arlington, Virginia.
3.0 Pours a hazy copper with 2 inch, fluffy head. Aroma is typical GL, pine and malt, not much citrus or fruit. Flavor is more typical. A twist on commodore perry. Probably better than perry. Some rye notes and boiled hop flavor that make it palatable. I wish GL would dry hop with nice citrusy stuff. Good thing I didn’t pay for it.
3.5 Draught from whole foods old town. Orangey pour. Clean rye flower hops and chewy Maltz.
4.0 On tap at the Olde Lincoln House, Ephrata, PA. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking hazy bronzed golden orange color with a slim bar pour’s kind of white head that dissipated gracefully. The smell started with a slight rye malt gracefully blending with a grassy to light citrus hoppiness. The taste blended the spicy rye with the grassy to citrus hop. A light semi-crisp spice to citrus aftertaste leads to a semi-wet citrus finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonated definitely as an AIPA, the bitterness invades and punches my tongue appropriately. Overall, this was a good AIPA with the rye malt to accompany a nice spice. I would definitely have again.
3.7 Bottle. Bright orange-copper color with off-white head and substantial lacing. Spice, pepper, orange, grapefruit, and malt flavor. Solid malt backbone with citrus (orange and grapefruit) and pine notes. Rye spiciness throughout, especially in the finish.
3.7 Pint at lady gregory’s. Dark yellow with red tones. Amber. Huge fluffy head. Heavily carbonated. Not too much aroma with all of the head on top, I’ll revisit this later in the tasting. Sharp clean hop bite. The bitterness is real on this, and I love that. It’s hard to isolate the flavors. Some citrus with lots of pine. Bitter finish. Really no nose throughout which is the only downside I can come up with. I’ll drink this again.
3.4 Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a light tan head. The smell is spicy, sweet malt, citrus, grain. The taste is malty, sweet, spicy, citrus dry and slightly bitter. The body is medium, silky fine carbonation.
3.2 This is alright but not very ryey. Not my favorite rye beer but it’s still pretty good. That’s all there is to say really.
3.8 Clear orangish-golden body with thin white head. Some lacing. Massive juicy citrus aromas with melon and fresh grass scents. Tastes of grapefruit, ripe peach, tangerine, and prickly pepper notes. The rye malts perfectly balance the abundant hops producing a mellow smooth finish.
3.8 Drank at room temperature. Big juicy orange and flower aroma. Taste has notes of orange peel, pepper, grapefruit, caramel. Long bitter finish with fruit lingering.
3.2 Grass and soil nose, not strong. Cloudy copper, full of fine floaties, medium yellow head, nice glass adherence. Sweet curacao, malt. Orange peel finish. Medium body, easy carbonation, warm. Good bitterness, but unusually sweet on the front end.
3.5 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy orange with a nice large white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma and taste is citrus hops, spicy rye, malt, caramel, and wheat. Strong malty backbone balances well with the citrus hops and rye. Tastes more like an IIPA. Medium body, sticky texture, high carbonation. Nice long malty finish. Really good.
3.8 very good not great beer. something seems to be missing. balance may be a bit off. too hoppy, needs more citrus.
3.7 Pours golden orange with small head. Smells hops. Mouthfeel is medium thick with light carbonation. Tastes hops and pines and of course particular dry bitterness of rye. What is little disappointing is more than hint of malt. But overall a good IPA. Summer IPA!!
4.0 Great rye ipa. Hops and rye makes this one all that it is. Good looking and great tasting. Enjoy!
3.8 Bottle shared with Parksy. Orange amber, lasting white head. Big citrus hop character, moderately sweet, subtley spicy, assertive bitterness. Very tasty.
3.8 Not my favorite style but not bad. Pours dark straw color with a white head. Aromas of, citrus lemon lime mostly. Some, spruce and herbs. Taste mostly the same. A little more subdued than the aroma. Light to medium mouth feel. Overall nit to bad. Very hoppy.
3.0 Pours a hazy orange with a thin sudsy white head. Aroma of rye, malts, spices, and floral. Flavor follows suit with tons of rye, but not much floral is as present as it was with the nose. I’m just not a fan of rye beers. Medium bitterness to it and a dry finish.
3.6 From bottle into snifter. Pours a light clear orange red color with big tan head. Nose is tropical hops, peach, oranges, lemon, lime, some spice. Medium body, medium to light sweetness, medium bitterness, high carbonation. The rye spice shows up in the finish, with some pine and grapefruit hop bitterness. Nice beer.
4.3 Aroma: rye, floral, citrus, Appearance: hazy, orange, off-white head Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, rye Palate: medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish, Nice rye IPA
3.5 Wonderful burnt orange color with a thin cream head. Strong hoppy and grain flavor with a bitter hoppy finish. Really smooth and easy to drink. Had at home out of a bottle
3.1 Not my style. Great aroma with lots of color and floral notes. Intensely dry with a long finish that runs to the astringent end. Bottle at first church men’s grouo of the summer.
3.8 Poured from a 12 oz bottle into an IPA glass. The aroma is roasted grain and rye with a caramel touch. Appearance is clear honey yellow-brown color with a foamy white head. Taste is highly bitter beer with a mellow, malty, medium sweetness. Palate is full body finish. Strong aftertaste that has a lingering quality. Power house rye.
3.8 Lots of different aromas - spruce, honey, that raw/wild rye aroma and even some fruit - maybe mango. Coppery color, mostly clear with an off-white moderate head. Taste is somewhat sweet with plenty of hop bitterness. Medium body, creamy and slightly oily texture. Carbonation just a little lively, which works well with all the strong flavors and a long lively, bitter finish. I like the strong but diverse flavors - lots of hop, wild rye, just the right amount of sweetness and even just a touch of fruit.
4.0 This beer has serious hops and gives a real kick in the IPA. It has real complexity. Great label and has some spice to add to the flavor.
3.4 A hazy orange beer with a small white head. The aroma is cereal and citrus. The flavor is spicy grain and citrus peel.
3.2 Bottle: Highly cloudy body, sitting somewhere between amber & orange. Slow forming head that grows huge, three fingers at least with a modest pour; just as slow to recede, nice lacing left behind. Beautiful looking beer. Aroma is LOADED with rye. Very spicy & dry on the nostrils. Toasted grains, leafy, herbal, ashy... Bitter, white pepper covered grapefruit rinds in the background with a charred bread back-end. The first sip isn’t quite a spicy as the nose would indicate, which is good. Still plenty of herbal, peppery bitterness & a bit of spiciness on the tongue from the rye, but it’s manageable. Mild hop bitterness; cut & dry experience. Buried citrus flavors, maybe a hint of grapefruit. The bitter pith, not so much the sweet or acidic flesh. Burnt toast & spicy rye seeds in the finish. Surprisingly creamy body. Generally not a fan of rye beers... This one was decent, but I still didn’t love it.
4.3 Transfer from BA review on 5-12-13- Poured from growler into a pint glass Appearance – Pours a beautiful golden-orange color with a nice and thick two finger orange tinted head. The head is amazing in retention very slowly fading to leave a wonderful level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The has a nice smell of rye and a bready aroma. With these malty aromas is a good presence of sweeter aromas as well as hops. The hops are mainly of a grapefruit smell but are accompanied by some grassy hop as well. The sweeter aromas are of a citrus tangerine and some smells of caramel. Rounding out all the aromas is some spicy notes creating an overall pleasing smell. Taste – The taste begins with a fantastic rye and bready flavor mixed with a bit of caramel sweetness. A grapefruit hop flavor quickly complements these. This grapefruit grows stronger through the taste, but is balanced by a sweeter orange flavor that begins coming to the tongue. Some grassy and spicy hop flavors later develop in the taste, with the sweeter flavors beginning to fade some at the end and the grapefruit flavor getting stronger. The rye and bready flavors remain consistent throughout the taste profile and create a great base of support for all the hop flavors. In the end a pleasant and rather balanced rye and bitter hopped flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is nice and creamy with a carbonation level that is on the average to just below average side. The creamier body and lower carbonation are great for allowing all those wonderful rye and hop flavors to be sensed by the tongue while not being too overwhelming to effect the beers drinkability. Overall – This is a very enjoyable and tasty rye IPA. Just about everything is awesome. It has a great look, smell, taste, and feel. This is one that I will certainly buy on much more occasion.
3.5 Deep golden bodied with a sustained white head, this ale has a caramel nose coupled with lemon zest, pips, and black pepper. It’s got a rich, creamy mouthfeel to it. The flavor begins with caramel and sweet grain soon to be overtaken by a lemony, zesty bitterness. The solid ABV remains well hidden throughout. The finish is dry and bitter, a bitterness that started out quietly but increased during the course of the drinking. Not too shabby.
