Concept: The Maple trees of industrial Portland are about to change their colors. The Squatches are frollicking down bucolic NW28th avenue, and that can only mean one thing. Fall is here and a fresh pot of Double Stack is hot and ready for all your autumnal dark beer needs. Gather around the firepit and enjoy a mug of our Imperial Breakfast Stout. Double Stack has a big body with a warming ABV perfect for the change in the weather, but not for your fingers when carving a pumpkin. However, flavors of Maple syrup and @Coavacoffee beans are perfect anytime.

You may have noticed that Double Stack has a new look with its fresh new wrap, but that isn’t all. Recently we switched over to using @MostraCoffee Ghost Bear blend for our classic Imperial Breakfast Stout. We are loving the roast on these beans, especially how they impart their robust dark chocolate and caramel flavors into Double Stack. The rich chewy mouthfeel and the sweet flavor of maple syrup are the perfect contrast to the coffee. You still have time to stuff some stockings with the squatch before the big day.

4.6 From notes. Draft at the brewery location in Alberta, Portland, OR a couple weeks ago when I was traveling up there. POURS black with a layer of tan foam. AROMA of straight thick maple syrup (all pancake-like), artisan robusta coffee sourced from southeast Asia, and plenty of dark maltiness. FLAVOR of maple and coffee blended like a perfect breakfast with the additional dark malts melding in well. Has a lingering smooth maple taste very reminiscent of pancakes. And a completely hidden 11% ABV throughout the experience. Really excellent...just wished I had somehow been able to get some cans to bring back to San Diego for friends. (132, 1150)
3.4 08.08.2019, tap @ Bakushu Club Popeye: Nice light brown bubbly-creamy mediumlasting head, deep dark pour. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish roasted, maple syrup, espresso, dark malts, dark sugar, toffee, chocolate, oak, vanilla, roasted grain, toast. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish roasted, toast, roasted grain, espresso, burnt grain, minerals, bark, alcohol, harsh vanilla, alcohol, harsh hops, burnt rye bread. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly boozy and harsh roasted mouthfeel. Lovely aroma.
3.8 Got that maple & brown sugar aroma that's make you want a pancake, though with a little sawdust. Similar with flavors (maybe pour it on vanilla ice cream), but not too sweet and a little more resin. 11% alcohol well concealed. clear but dark brown. smooth but not sticky on the palate
4.3 2020-02-15, growler, 8-4-8-4-17=41 Compared to the Stacks of Coconuts side to side, the aroma is less powerful, there's some roasted malt, dark chocolate, maple syrup. Good body strength, it feels sweeter and less boozy than SoC, some roastiness and earthiness in the finish. 2019-07-06, draught at The Magnet, Vancouver, 9-4-8-4-18=43 Black colour, small brown head. Impressive aroma of maple glazed pecans. Moderate sweetness, cut by the strong alcohol; chocolate praline, roasted nuts, and rivers of maple; it may be crazy, but I wish it was sweeter. Excellent, very rich and maple-forward.
3.9 Refrigerated 16 oz. aluminum can poured into a glass. Black with medium beige head. Aroma is maple syrup, medium body, lower carbonation, and some lacing. Taste is maple syrup and chocolate.
4.7 Opaque black beer with a slight brown head. Medium/heavy aroma; taste starts medium/heavy sweet and ends slightly bitter and dry. Maple syrup, chocolate, mocha, roasted malts and coffee. 8/5/10/5
4.3 Pitch black color. Off white head. Massive maple nose. Massive nose of maple, coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, fairly sweet. Sweet mouth with tons of coffee and maple with roasted malt. Alcohol well hidden. The maple really dries things. Pretty nice
4.1 Tap @ DC Kanda. Dark brown pour, brown bubbles on the top. Nose is full of maple, syrupy and sweet, with chcolate. Intense. Taste surprises with extra coffe notes, fresh brewed coffee. Liquid chocolate, good bitterness. Really nice.

3.8 Rami Rami is drinking a Double Stack by Great Notion Brewing at Powiśle Duuuuzo kawy, troche syropu klonowego, srednio- ciala, slodkie ale bez przegiec, gladkie, smaczne mocno acz sama kawa mi nie do konca pasi. Kwaskowate posmaki od niej.
4.2 Very good Stout, pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. Sweet, but not overly so. Mild coffee, chocolate and maple flavors. This is a very smooth beer. One of the best Stouts I've had and I don't normally like stouts. The alcohol smooths out the hops because this does not taste like an 11 ABV or 60IBU beer.
4.2 Draught. Black opaque beer with a large beige head. Aroma is malty with notes of caramel, maple syrup, herbs, roasted nuts, coffee and molasses. Flavor is malty with notes of caramel, coffee, roasted nuts, maple syrup and pancakes. Well balanced.
3.7 On tap at Omnipollos Hatt. Almost black with a small tan head. Sweet with dark malt, maple syrup, some coffee and chocolate. The body was medium.
4.2 Can shared at Alex's birthday. Thanks Andrew! Pours a deep brown with a full finger of beige head that dissipates. Big maple forward nose with, coffee and chocolate malt as it warms. Smooth and sweet, but not overly cloying for the adjuncts used. The coffee balances everything out nicely. Lingering maple, chocolate and coffee on the finish.
4.2 Taste from a can. Pours black, with a small, tan ring. The aroma is maple, coffee, black pepper, rye, and toffee. Sweet and sugary, with a mild bitterness. Thick and chewy. Nice and decadent, yet surprisingly balanced.
4.3 Dark brown color, light beige head... Fairly viscous pour... Aroma is straight maple syrup, vanilla, coffee, chocolate malts... Flavor is super maple forward, light coffee and chocolate malt bitterness on finish... roasted malts, nice body... delicious porter
3.9 Tall can during Kump's smashed week. Pours a dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is maple syrup, fudge, some roasted malt. Taste is pretty similar with lots of maple syrup which is pretty good balanced by sweetness, fudge, and caramel. Good stuff.
3.8 Draft at the brewpub. Pours dark brown/black with a creamy tan head. Tastes like maple syrup, roasted coffee, and chocolate and cookie malt. Medium body and low/medium carbonation. Smells like maple syrup, roasted coffee, and chocolate and cookie malt.

3.9 Can from a friend. Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, chocolate, maple syrup, licorice, toffee, syrup and coffee. Bittersweet finish with roasted malts, chocolate, maple syrup, toffee, licorice and coffee. Excellent imperial stout.
4.0 GABF 2018. Comes black with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, coffee, and maple. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and a nice bit of maple. Excellent.
4.1 Pours a deep, dark, brown-black, with smallish, tan head. Aroma is full of maple syrup, with some coffee and chocolate for good measure. Flavor is maple syrup, coffee, chocolate, vanilla. It's pretty sweet, but not cloyingly so. The maple and the coffee are pretty well-integrated. Very smooth. Just a touch sticky. Alcohol content very well-hidden. This stuff is great--at least on par with Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout and maybe a touch better.
3.7 Draught @ MBCC 2018, Yellow Session Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, maple syrup, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, cocoa and alcohol. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, roasted, maple syrup, chocolate, coffee and cocoa finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
