Green Flash Double Stout

Green Flash Double Stout

Golden naked oats mashed with dark crystal and robust roasted malts create a luscious black brew with a satin smooth finish. Layering UK Target hops in the boil adds a pleasant, earthy complexity while higher fermentation temperatures enhance the overall flavor with fruity esters. An old-world style, done the Green Flash way. Big, bold, flavorful and complex – Double Stout.

3.9 On tap at St. Augustine’s. Almost black, brown head. Aroma is berries, dark fruits, roasted malt. Taste is liquorice, roasted malt, berries and alcohol (heh) notes. Burnt malt aftertaste. Very good.
3.8 Black with a beige head. Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, hint of anise, fig. Full bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel, roasty on the palate with a long, bittersweet chocolate finish. Taste is dark chocolate, anise, roasted malts.
3.5 (35 cl bottle courtesy of Tsekouratos, cheers! BBD: July 16th 2016) Poured at fridge temperature (meter says 15 degrees at the surface) into a stemmed burgundy glass reveals a pitch black body with two fingers of tan head that subside after about a minute leaving film and some nice lace. Aroma is of course roasted malt but it does have something a bit unorthodox to it, which might well be earthy notes from the Target hops and fruity esters mentioned in the description. In the mouth the beer strikes you as having an oily texture with a medium body, a soft carbonation and a protracted bitter, roasted finish. As regards the flavour sweetness is not pronounced and seem to be playing a balancing second fiddle to the roastedness and hoppiness of the beer, which are themselves moderated. Alcohol is quite upfront. Decent and drinkable.
4.0 Bottle at home. Aroma is heavily roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, touch of liquorice and some hops. Flavour is medium sweet with a roasty bitter finish. Body is a bit above medium. Nicely roasty dark chocolate Imperial Stout.
4.2 0.355l bottle. Pitch black body, light brown head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, coffee, vanilla and some reisins. Taste of chocolate, coffee, floral hops and some plums. Quite bitter. Both because of the hops and the roasted malts. Very nice.
4.0 Deep dark body. Aromas of bitter chocolate/espresso. Full flavored chocolate/coffee with a bite.
4.1 0,355l bottle at home. BB 03.09.2016. black color, small dark coffee-colored head. smells lightly sour, coffee, bitter chocolate, earthy, lactic, licorice, light vanilla, marzipan, toffee. nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of milk chocolate, coffee, light vanilla, light roast, light sour, lactic, marzipan. finishes lightly roasted and creamy with notes of vanilla and some milk chocolate. very good one, great balance.
4.0 Aroma is dark roast malt, cocoa, some oat. Black in color, some tan head. Taste is full, sweeter than expected, but not at all cloying. Coffee, baker’s chocolate, roast. Mouthfeel is very smooth, from the oats, slight bitterness, but finish is not as dry as expected for a stout. Overall, a very good stout.
3.9 Bottle from The Bottle Lab, Leek. Pours a black colour with a foamy mocha head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, oats, some roasted malts, slight caramel, a little coffee and subtle vanilla. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, oats, some roasted malts, slight caramel, a little coffee, dark fruits and subtle soy sauce. Full bodied and soft carbonation. A dry, cocao bitterness in the finish. A full flavoured imperial stout, lots of roasted and chocolatey flavours. Less alcoholic than it is and perfectly balanced. Lovely.
3.8 Pitch black, white head. Smell is liquorice, wood, hint of vanilla, resin, dark fruit, spices. Taste is full and bold, wood, coffee, chocolate, with a smooth wood finish. Like old furniture, nice. Pure chocolate, smooth and oily, delicious beer.
3.3 pitch black brew with a nice looking dark brown head that sports great lacing and okay retention. Roasty malt and some mild coffee... enough mild maltiness to help carry the dark malts.. a bit of dark cherry essence to add to the complexities.. Dry dark bittersweet cocoa... roasty and a good dark profile midpalate shows with some decent sweetness... pretty rich.. finishes with a bit of brownie batter essence and dark fruits.. a bit of spicy hops with warmth, but the hops are definitely subdued for a Pacific stout... Medium body... not quite thick enough for the style IMO... but carbonation is about right...
4.0 Pours black with a large tan head and very good lacing. Smell of chocolate, coffee, and a little smoke. Taste is of cocoa, coffee, and roasted malt.
3.9 Near black color with a dark dense head. Roasted malt, molasses, light pine hops and dark chocolate. Flavors match aromas with hints of raspberries. West coast style stout. Burnt malt finish. Only problem is 25% of my 4 pack was flat. 10/13
4.1 Draft at Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Dark fruits, roast, some chocolate, pleasant mouthfeel. Good beer.

4.0 Tap at BeerTemple, 23rd March 16. Pours deep black. Aroma is roasty, liquorice, dark malts burnt. Taste is slick liquorice, dark chocolate, not overly sweet. Delicious
3.9 Donker bruin bier met een goede beige schuim kraag. Ruikt zoet, kruidig, koffie, chocolade, koek deeg. Smaakt hoppig, koffie, chocolade, geroosterd.
4.1 Bottle at home in London. Picked up at Cask Pub and Kitchen (London) from their discount shelf; so, I figure this beer is probably at least one to two years out of date (it’s got the old label). Pours thick black-brown with a lasting, creamy beige head. Relaxed roasted malts in the aroma, with hints of oxidation (just faint suggestions of burnt cardboard creeping in), with pleasant over-arching dark chocolate character. Medium to big sweet flavour, with nicely layered chocolate notes, some baking cocoa, milk chocolate, good ashy roast, some bitter earth, dark fruits, raisins. Full bodied with average carbonation and velvety texture. Finishes with light alcohol warmth, sticky chocolate, bittersweet baking cocoa, burnt sugars, burnt toffee, some old leather, more raisins. There’s some light dryness in the aftertaste that levels things out well. Great beer overall. Good depth, nice balance. Totally solid from beginning to end.
3.9 Bottle from etre gourmet or maybe firma bier. Dark color, thin brown head. Medium high bitterness, low to medium sweetness. Aroma is roasted, chocolate, light winish, nutty, buttery, light fruit.
4.0 Excellente !
4.5 bottle @ home clear black, brown head chocolate, walnuts, hint of toffee and butterscotch, licorice, roasted malts very complex and balanced oily, licorice, chocolate, winey/brandy

4.0 Bottled poured into a snifter. Pours black with a tan head that dissolved quickly. A complex aroma with hints of coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, oak barrels, and malted milk balls. Initially big and roasty with some hints of dried dates and prunes. A very small alcohol kick to the aftertaste with lots of coffee ground bitterness that lasts. Great body and carbonation that is just lively enough. Wow! I took a flyer on this one in a mix-and-match sixer and was rewarded with a great beer. Be ready for a bold and bitter (in a good way) beer.
3.8 Bottle, 330ml. A pitch black beer with a brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee, dried fruits and alcohol. Taste is bitter with a smoky character. Robust bodied with some carbonation and astrigency. Strong alcoholic finish with lots of coffee and dried fruits at the end.
3.9 Bottle, 355ml. Opaque dark brown with a creamy brown head. Aromas of roasted caramel, dried fruits, chocolate with a slight smokiness and sourness. Robust bodied with moderate carbonation. Rich and smooth, with delicious sweet malt character and a complex fruity and alcohol finish. Very pleasant.
3.9 Bottle at home. Pours black with a beige head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee. Taste is more bitter, hard roasted, burned, bitter malts, dark chocolate, coffee, hoppy bitter dry ending, full, creamy, chocolate aftertaste. Nice.
3.9 Rating #1559 -20.03.2015 - Birthday Brew Tour Stop #3 - On tap at Green Flash. Beautiful dark brown pour with a fairly foamy tan head with mild lacing. Aroma is earth, molasses, soft fruits. Taste is bubbly mouth feel, bold earth and coffee layered with hints of vanilla and chocolate, plum, raisin, currant. Very Belgian-esque, but pleasant.
