Green Flash / Founders Linchpin White India Pale Ale

Green Flash / Founders Linchpin White India Pale Ale

“There’s a lot going on in this beer with two yeast strains, copious amounts of wheat malt, and a big focus on ‘C’ hops to deliver a citrus explosion,” explains Green Flash Brewmaster, Chuck Silva. “In fact we lined up more than a dozen hop varieties in the brewery to select three hops with the biggest citrus character to dry hop the beer.

“This golden beer pours with beautiful, frothy white beer foam that lasts due to bottle conditioning. Gently rousing the yeast that settles in the bottle will result in a fuller texture and a more cloudy white appearance. The citrus aromas that jump from the glass are largely tangerine up front with other types of citrus notes that mingle with the Belgian yeast esters. Hop flavors of bitter orange zest dominate the brew and linger to the finish with a nice play of American and Belgian yeast combo.”

A beer with so many components can be held together with a “Linchpin”. The official “Linchpin” of this beer is the skillful collaboration between the two breweries to create a unique hop-forward brew. Linchpins are symbolic: two simple shapes that combine to strengthen a bond amongst many different pieces.

3.8 Solid wheat aroma with some citrus, lemon, cloves, banana, black pepper???, and yeast. Almost reminiscent of a hefeweisen. Flavor brings out the hops a little. Different.
3.3 Light color. A little sour smell, wheat taste with slight hoppy crisp finish.
3.9 (22oz bottle / draught) Pours a clear yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of citrus, pineapple, yeast, and florals. Flavor of citrus, pineapple, wheat, yeast, and pine with a dry, bitter finish.
3.0 bottled, clear yellow with some soapy foam, aroma is dry and bitter, flavor of some lemons, dry dusty, with a soft finish
3.7 22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours amber with a fluffy, off-white head. Aroma of citrusy hops, some spiciness and wheat and light fruits, and caramel malts. Flavor the same with a good amount of hops and malts to balance it out. Average texture. A pretty interesting IPA.
3.6 Slightly hazy golden with a foamy/rocky head. Nose of slightly sour orange zest and clove-y wheat. Flavor is nicely hoppy bitter with acidic citrus zest, spicy clove, and a dry clove and dusty finish. A little bitter but I still like it.
4.0 Pours gold-yellow with a big, white frothy head. Aroma is amazing; incredibly floral; citrus, pine, caramel. Taste is citrus, pine, caramel sweetness. Great full flavor. Superbly balanced. Medium carbonation; nice for the aromatic hops. This is a really excellent beer from two incredible breweries. It tastes wonderful and is incredibly balanced. This beer truly wins in the nose. The aromatics are worth the whole bottle. If you see this in stores, grab a bottle.
4.1 Beautiful hazy golden yellow appearance with a frothy sudsy white head. Nose is citrus and fresh florals, quite pleasant. Taste is citrusy and pine, and light and drinkable, Finish is bitter sweet and short, carbonation medium with a mild to moderate texture. Flavorful, would not expect anything less from two great microbreweries. Quaff Score 9 / 10
3.7 Pours golden with a white head and aroma of hops and floral notes. Taste is well balanced, of fresh hops, citrus, floral notes, and malt with a bitter, smooth finish. Very drinkable, tasty brew collaboration
3.5 Draft (the week it came out, massive backlog). Pours with a hazed golden-yellow hued body with a large white head. Aromas are medium phenolic, estery, stone fruit, straw and hay. Flavors are grassy, bready, noble like hops, citrus, zesty, marmalade, bready, wheat, lightly earthy. Phenolic. Medium bodied, medium-medium high carbonation. Dry.
2.5 to astringent, its looks like a nice Belgian wit beer. definitely has some spicy and high bitterness. it taste too bitter to enjoy the rest of the beer.
3.1 The aroma is very hoppy and sweet with spices and citrus. The appearance is golden with a foamy head. The taste is like the aroma and quite bitter. The palate is smooth. Overall this is good but really bitter.
3.9 651mL from Norm’s in Vienna, VA. Last bottle of theirs I think. Late to the bandwagon on this one. Pours cloudy, glowing orange. Enormous, billowing white head. Huge webby lacing and volcanic retention. Nose is pomelo, white grapefruit, chamomile, mild dusty/woody/barrel, biscuit, pale wort. Soft, herbal, not stale. Taste is similar- dusty, herbal, quite dry with some spices, melon rind, bitter grapefruit juice. Very enjoyable even if not super fresh. Maybe this is the secret to IPA longevity: Black IPAs and White IPAs.
3.8 Picked up a bomber bottle at Best Damn Beer Shop in San Diego, CA. Tasted from a tulip glass. Pours golden with a slight haze and a big frothy off-white head. Nice, large bands of lacing. Aromas of piny/citrusy hops, citrus, and spicy yeast. Sweet, lemony flavors, combining with a light maltiness and the wonderful zestiness of the hops and yeast. Medium-bodied, with a long, resinous, lightly bitter finish. A very interesting beer. Excellent.
3.6 Bomber. Big, frothy white head, lasting. Aroma of citrus, grass, grapefruit, toasted grain, lemon. Notes of resin. The taste starts with lemon, citrus but turns bitter grapefruit The finish is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Bitterness lingers well into the finish. Different. Fairly clean and nice. Id want this over most all IPA’s I’ve had.
3.4 A steady pour into my Bruery tulip produces a three finger thick, just barely, pale-tan colored head; this prodigious head slowly recedes with some light, layered lacing and a structural mesa in the center of the glass. The beer is a nice gold color with some light amber notes to it, when held up to the light the beershows an almost clear, bright, yellow-gold hue. The aroma has an up-front vibrant hop character that is made earthy and spicy from the yeast and spices used. Specific notes of lychee, tangelo zest, guava, musty black pepper, sweet ginger, a green grassy herbal note, and supporting malt notes of dried hay, wheat like cracker character, and an earthiness that is brought out by the malt, the yeast character and the more base level hop notes. The beer is served lightly chilled, this accentuates the fizzy carbonation and a phenolic, spicy finish that leans towards peppery and medicinal. This has a solid biting, hop bitterness to it, thought this isn’t overly aggressive, and the phenolics in the finish accentuate the raw, herbal / woody hop notes. The pale malt / wheat contributes a supporting, linger grassy, wheat cracker flavor and perhaps a bit of rounded, rustic white bread character. The beer is fairly dry, which downplays the fruity hop notes, but they are still quite substantial here; lots of ripe citrus zest flavors, floral tropical fruit and peach notes, definite lychee notes, and some kumquat like flavors as well. The finish can be quite sharp, bitter, and astringent between the yeast character, light spice notes, and ample hop character. This has an earthy spiciness to it that also leans towards peppery, as well as a touch ginger like. Touches of higher alcohols provide some heat to the finish. The body of this beer is quite light, especially for a “standard” IPA of this strength, but this lightness makes sense for a Belgian-influenced beer; if it wasn’t for the spicy, alcoholic notes in the finish this would be eminently, and dangerously quaffable. My second pour that came with some yeast, as well as being a bit cooler, is softer, rounder somehow, and with a bit more yeast flavors. Not bad, in fact quite enjoyable; the hop character and the yeast contributions definitely clash a bit, especially in the finish, but on the whole this beer works.
3.8 Golden color with a subtle hint of citrus. Very nice white frothy head. Clean on the palette.
3.6 Bottle. Pours hazy golden yellow with a large white head that slowly dissipates with decent lacing. Aroma is citric, coriander, yeast. Taste is about the same plus tangerine. Lightly sweet, medium bitter with a bitter finish that is a mix of hoppiness and orange peel.
3.8 Bottle from Yamaichi. Creamy wheaty nose, sweet orange, honey, vanilla. Deep golden, clear, tall creamy head. Fruity, creamy flavor, nice orange and citrus, good hoppy finish. Very bitter. Light spiciness from the Belgian yeast. Very nice, creamy, tasty. Like it.
3.5 A hazy yellow orange beer with a small white head. The aroma is yeast, citrus, and pine. The flavor is floral, pine, and a large dose of citrus in the finish.
3.4 Bottle. Pours light orange with thick white head. Aroma of citrus hops and Belgian yeast. Taste of spicy, black pepper. Lemon zest. Big yeast, wheat flavors. Pretty good.
3.8 2 tasting here shaken and not. Not shakened1st Appear nce was clear light orangish gold with huge creamy lasting white head, lacing throughout pour. Aromas are spicy citrusy hops, belgain funky estery yeasts, slight malts. Taste are orange, lemon, grapefruit, tang with mild sweet malt then, spicey yeasts come to play. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with meduim body, then average length citrus spicey yeasty finish. Shaken was hazy orange gold
3.7 Bomber. Murky deep yellow body, gold highlights. Big, frothy white head, lasting. Aroma of citrus, grass, grapefruit, toasted grain, lemon. Notes of resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. The finish is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The taste starts with lemon, citrus but turns bitter grapefruit and resin in the finish. Bitterness lingers well into the finish. Some notes of a wit beer, but more notes of an IPA, especially resin. Different. Fairly clean. Will take this over IPAs that are heavy on raw hop leaf flavor.
3.8 The pour is slightly hazy yellow with a tall, long lasting white head. The aroma is musty citrus fruit. Some clove. The flavor is bitter, tart with some spicy dryness that comes in at the finish. I think I like white IPAs better than black ones.
3.8 Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Poured a golden liquid with a slight appearance of haze or white tinting while a thick fluffy head developed up top. Aroma is lively with a funky scent of Belgian yeast while a smell of grassy grains and hay. The flavor is refreshing and brings out an initial taste of sweetness from high quality malts while a pleasant notice of hops keeps my interest, but the highlight of this beer is the yeast. The yeast is funky and different and almost somehow doesn’t make this an IPA but instead a golden Belgian strong ale of some sorts. Definitely enjoyed this one on a warm summer Sunday.
3.6 Poured a hazy, yellow color. Very lively with a big white head. Immediate aroma of floral and hops. They are hitting the citrus smell as well. Taste is hoppy. Taste is bitter, but smooth and light. Although the bitterness lingers too long.
3.5 Aroma is hoppy and yeasty with a sweet citrus hint, not strong but still appealing. Pours a slightly hazy bright yellow with a thick, fluffy, white head. Flavor has a hoppy and rather bitter core, with woody, yeasty and orange tones. Bitterness plus a little citrus sourness equals the drinker making faces! Firm, smooth texture has a decent amount of fizz, leaving a hoppy, yeasty, bitter finish. A bold and distinctive IPA for the strong of heart - and taste buds.
3.6 Very aromatic beer! The mouth feel is nice and the finish is a little bitter. Nice off white head and initial butter flavor.
3.9 Golden and clear pour, a ton of white frothy head, sticky. Great floral and mild hops aroma. Medium bodies packed with flavor. Can taste the wheat which usually I don't like, but mixes well with the hoppy and citrus flavors. Love it
3.8 Draft. Poured a slightly hazy pale gold with a big white, persistent head. Aroma was lots of citrus, a mild yeastiness, some spice. Flavor was all kinds of different citrus, wheat, some mildly tangy Belgian yeast. Medium to light mouthfeel. Very nice.
