Green Flash Grand Cru

Green Flash Grand Cru

Our Belgian Style Dark Ale is inspired by traditional Abbey Ales to deliver the richest of malt flavors but with a slightly elevated hopping and increased complexity given from two different yeast strains. This malt laden ale is designed to satiate and keep your taste buds dancing.

2.3 It definitely is a dark ale not sure if I like them yet. I wouldn't go out of my way to get this one again.
3.5 Bottle at home. Pours deep brown, nose is smoky, chocolate, dark fruit, taste is dry, roasted, rich toffee, sweet.
3.4 12oz., 2013 bottling. Sweet, darkly fruity aroma, notes of brown sugar and raisin, along with faint dark bread and medicinal alcohol. Rusty red-brown in color with a very fine, fading head and sparse lacing. Flavor profile is gently sweet, fruity and with just a hint of tartness, some black cherry and red grape appearing here, finishing with a light hop note, toffee and peppery alcohol. Warming and finely effervescent on the palate, thin and lightly sticky with a full body. Perhaps not the most refined example of the style, but tasty and full of flavor.
4.0 Bottle. Pours an unclear brown beer with a beautiful off white head on top that lasts during the entire drinking experience. Aroma of apples, Belgian yeast, dark fruits, kandi sugar. Flavor is nice and sweet, fruity and has some age in there. Might even have some oaky notes in there as well. Great balance, great drinkability. Smooth sweet finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Good stuff.
3.4 On tap at their tasting room. Pours a light brown with a thin tan. head. Aroma is raisins and some malt. Fairly sweet. Decent beer.
3.5 [ Keg ][ 4oz ][ Green Flash ][ $1 ][ Taster ][ 11.22.14 ] >> Murky maroon pour with 360 yellow lacing. Nose is soy, dates, esters, old fruit, extreme esters verging on rotting fruit. Taste is spiced Abbey Dubbel, cinnamon, some butyric harshness, cinnamon bread. Creamy mouthfeel, full bodied. Not bad though. Improves as it warms. Why this is marketed as "Dark Ale" is beyond as that could be anything, and given Green Flash’s portfolio the last thing I would think would be a Dubbel or Quad. So there you go, Green Flash’s Grand Cru is a dark Belgian ale.
3.8 "definitely a lot of ripe dark fruit going on here, as well as the yeasty flavor and nose. i have to say, when you hold it up to light it looks like diarrhea, but tastes much better."
3.2 Dark brown with dense tan head. Dark fruit and raisin aroma. Taste is fig, raisin, scotchy malt, chocolate. Not as good as I had been anticipating.
2.9 Deep brownish red pour with khaki head a half inch high. Somewhat sour, very malty scent. Spicy red hops, strong florals, and brown sugar. Low carbonation, creamy mouthfeel, dry tingly finish. Malty sweet taste with peaty and roasty/ashiness, stony (if that’s a flavor), carmel, dark fruit, fig perhaps, some melon. Taste like and american strong ale with lots of scottish/scotch influence.
3.0 Draft at Faucets in Tokyo. Deep maroon color, beige head. Aroma of nutty caramel. Taste is sweet and sour nuts. Odd.
3.8 Very rich, malty, dried fruit taste - lots of burnt raisins & cherries bouncing off the tongue. This is a true homage to the Belgium tradition with a beer that excretes rich Belgium Monasteries. Rated by BrewTom
3.6 Appeared to work off of the palat recker recipe. Strong hop flavor with caramel malt flavor. To hoppy for a double. Strong ale work.
3.5 Bottle at Grand Cru tasting at Beer&Beyond shop. Hazy brown with a nice off-white head. Aroma - phenolic, yeast, dried fruits and hops. Sweet, dark fruits flavors, quite alcoholic, nutty and spicy with moderate hoppy bitterness. Medium-full bodied.
3.5 Draft @ Sunset Grill & Tap. Dark brown thick yeasty pour, lasting head. Aromas of dark fruits, candi sugar, pumpernickel bread, and lots of yeast earthiness. Deep layers of yeast and earth. Flavor is a mirror of the aroma with a spicy element that reminds me of a Christmas based dark ale. Almost like a nutmeg, cloves and licorice. The two separate yeast strain helps to give a layer of complexity. Body is on the full side with a chewy yeasty texture. The alcohol is covered nice with all the layers of yeast, spice and malts. Still a light burn after the sip, this was a nice finish to my 5 hour long session at Sunset Grill & Tap.
3.8 12 ounce bottle into a Le Watou - nose is sugar candy, caramel and a little spice. I’m glad I got a case of this! Sweet and smooth. Slight grass hop kick.
3.5 The ale pours dark amber in color with a long lasting tan head. As the head diminishes, lacing appears on the glass. There are basement aromas combine with faint spices. The is a roasted malt taste along with yeast flavors and an alcohol kick as it goes down.
3.5 Lovely Maroon pour w/ a tan head that leaves a nice ring of lacing. The aroma has a light malt & fruit thing going on. The taste is very good upfront full of fruit & malt but I’m not a fan of the pretty bitter finish. It’s quite creamy & smooth on the palate & overall a good beer!
4.0 Pours a darker amber color with off-white head. Dark fruits, malt, and some spice on the nose; follows onto the palate. Simply a well done strong ale.
3.9 Słodki aromat kandyzowanych owoców z domieszką karmelu i ziół, wyraźny likier alkoholowy. W smaku alko lepiej przykryte, choć obecne, sporo słodyczy, ziołowa goryczka, lekki piołun, przypalony karmel, troszkę melasy, finisz wytrawny, z lekką ziołową goryczką. Bardzo smaczne, rozgrzewające i pełne.
3.4 Appearance: Clear ruby brown with 3 finger thick beige head. Aroma: Citrus, resinous, musky, bready, candied peel, spice, syrup. Taste: Medium sweetness, low/medium bitterness with low sourness. Palate: Thick coarse texture, light/medium body, average carbonation, lingering dry, bitter, citrus, burnt toffee, syrupy spicy finish with an alcohol warmth. Comments: Good and glass lace.
3.7 Pours a nice dark brown color with a thick cream head. Aroma is molasses, hops, caramel, nutty, dark fruit, cereal. Taste is sweet, dark malt, molasses, bread, caramel, nutty, slight fruit, and then a kiss of bitter at the end. Very drinkable, warms up nicely, good beer.
3.6 A foamy dark pour with amber highlights. The aroma is sweet and nutty, with dashes of yeast, hazelnuts, and flowers. Interesting flavor - bready and nutty, with some brett mingling with the nippy hops. There is a little coffee in there too. Surprisingly high ABV. Another fine brew from Green Flash.
3.9 Poured from a 22oz. Isn't know what to expect when I read "mysterious dark ale" on the label. Even more confused when a dark stout-like beer came flowin out with a coffee-foam head and nice malty ale aroma. Great smooth taste of chocolate, and molasses with some sweetness. This drinks like a stout but doesn't drop off to a bitter ending. It stays relatively balanced throughout. No boozy taste, which is remarkable, given the 9.1% batting average. Really nice beer.
3.6 Deep, dark fruity flavors on top of a caramel malt. Smooth and full, fairly strong, just a bit of hoppy bitterness.
3.5 Dark brown pour with one finger of off white head. Aroma is bread with caramel and a bit of roasted cereal. Slight yeast and hop as well. Flavor is light to moderate with a slight booze finish. Delicious beer.
3.9 Tap at Butcher and boar. Tulip glass. Dark. Thick bubbly head. Fruity and funky aroma. Sour, bubbly , and sharp. Finish is strong and spicy. Pretty decent.
3.1 On tap at Dexters, pours a dark brownish red with a light brown head, the aroma is really sweet, dark fruit and malt, the flavor is very sweet too, lots of Belgian candy notes with some dark fruit and yeast, abv is pretty hidden behind all the sugar like flavors, meh.
3.3 Brown colour, some beige foam. Medium body, medium carbonation. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar and hops. Balance between sweet and bitter. Good but nothing special.
