Green Flash Hop Odyssey Cedar Plank Pale Ale

Green Flash Hop Odyssey Cedar Plank Pale Ale

This hoppy pale ale starts out as 30th Street Pale Ale and then undergoes Spanish cedar aging. Wood aging imparts an intense cedar aroma which dominates the dry hop. The flavor contributions from the Spanish cedar include peppercorn spiciness and a tannic dry mouth feel that makes the hop flavor and bitterness linger in the finish. The wood adds a fun and unique twist on a classic American Strong Pale Ale, “The wood is good!”

Hops used: Warrior, El Dorado, Cascade

3.6 Appearance: this beer pours with a large beige head that settles into a nice density, the beer is pretty clear, slightly darker golden color with hues of amber Aroma: grass, citrus, dank, perhaps some peppercorn, smells good Taste: moderate bitterness, strong caramel malt in the middle, has a hint of peppercorn spice throughout the whole sip, bitter finish Palate: average carbonation, medium mouthfeel, bitter aftertaste Overall: this is a good bold pale ale, I would have guessed the abv would have been higher than 6%, try this if you're into imperial ipa's but want a lower abv
3.8 New copper penny pour with a hint of tangelo and a solid ivory crown that leaves a ring or two of lacing. Bright citrus, spice, and loads of raw wood. Solid amount of flavor, particularly for a brew at 6%. Yum.
4.1 At Brass Tap with Audrie and Zach, pours a rusty orange color with a nice head. Nose is deep citrus and slightly woody. Taste is citrus with nice spice, and some mild bitterness. Finish is bitter and moderately long and ends on the same tasting notes. Quaff Score 8 / 10
3.7 On tap at Brass Tap Coral Springs. Pours a clear copper orange with an off white head and hoppy, cedar wood aroma. Taste is bitter up front, the cedar, woody notes come through with peppercorns and spices with a bitter, dry finish. Very drinkable pale ale
4.0 22 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 3/19/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, herbal, floral, grass, wood, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy/woody earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/pine hops, cedar, and light-moderate bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, herbal, floral, grass, wood, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy/woody earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind/herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, citrus rind, pine, wood, light caramel, bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, cedar, and light-moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice wood aged pale ale. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of bright citrus/pine hops, cedar, and light-moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
2.9 Beautiful orange and copper color. Slightly malty nose with tropical fruit hop aromas. Soft hint of a the cedar detectable. Cedar is much more present on the palate. Very influential and adds a dry bite to the beer. Would like to taste more IBU to add balance
3.4 Bottle. Deep orange with a beige head. Stinky hops with an astringent, woody finish.
3.3 Bomber, pulled fresh out of a snowdrift outside the front door of my apartment (7 degrees here in the Hog Butcher to the World). Pours a honey gold, clear and nicely carbonated, very nice, creamy, off-white head with exceptional retention and lacing. Nose is cracker malts, candied orang peels and and some grapefruit mingling about with hints of that Spanish cedar. Mouth is medium bodied, very dry for the style with a crispness to accent the hippy bitterness and some wood. Green Flash makes some very nice PAs, this is among them.
3.5 Comes out of tap slightly hazy golden with a thick buff head. Aroma has strong hoppy and hay notes riding a fruity and malty undertone. Flavor is very hoppy, very like an IPA, with notes of hay, malt and pear, just a little fresh-cut evergreen bitterness. Texture is firm, smooth yet lively. If you cedar tap handle, ask for a crater.
3.3 Draft at Gingerman. Woody piney aroma. Bitter grapefruit, astringent cedar, bone dry finish.
3.5 Hazy amber/orange color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, cedar, pine hops, & some citrus/fruit; Flavor of slight sweet malt, cedar, some rye, pine hops, and citrus; Finish is slightly bitter; Decent overall.
3.8 Tap...really nice and well balanced APA with the addition of the woodiness from cedar. This adds a tannic dry finish to the brew and a long lasting clean finish.
3.7 Single bottle from Julio’s. Pours out a clear light golden amber color. Complex flavor of caramel malts and lots of bitterness. Cedar is not evident, but there is a dry spice backbone to this one. Very bitter finish. Not your usual pale ale.
3.2 Bottle. Amber body with a frothy, off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, resin, toasted grain, bread. Hint of citrus and cedar. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Standard pale ale (though more resin taste which brought it down a few notches for me), but cleaner than many making their way onto the craft beer scene today.
4.0 это пиво очень вкусно. я бы, конечно, рекомендую его всем. пожалуйста, обратитесь его. очень хорошо!
3.7 From bottle at Big Beers in Vail, CO 2015. Pour is hazy orange with a big white head and great lacing. Sweet fruity hops - melon, honeydew, cantaloupe - light orange, and heavy woody aroma. Taste is orange marmalade, grapefruit peels, candied oranges, somewhat grassy, and a ton of cedar with a big bitter finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Relly tasty stuff.
4.2 Probably the best PA I have had, very well balanced, can taste a sort of rye flavor, sort of like a red ale, hope are bangin, very drinkable
3.5 Draft at JoJo’s Taphouse in Frederick, MD. Served in a pint glass, orangy-amber color with off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops, cedar wood, caramel malt and some faint spiciness. Taste adds notes of grapefruit, pepper and more wood resin. Light-medium body, moderate-low carbonation, very dry (tannic) with citrus woody bitter finish. Cedar planks added some nice woody/pepper notes, pretty nice.
3.5 Bottle during Patriots dismantling of the Colts. Clear orange pour small soapy head, nose is spicy cedar and citrus. Tastes of grapefruit, cedar, peppercorn, some berry notes, and malt. Clean and spicy palate. Drying finish.
3.6 A solid all around pale. The spice was dominant, but not bad. Sets it apart from others.
3.6 アメリカンペールエール 苦味が強い、程よい甘さ、まあまあの香り
3.5 Bottle in Seattle. Mahogany with foamy white head. Musty hop aroma, smokey wood and tannins. Tasty sweet, woody wet cedar finish.
4.2 This was quite good. The amount of hops for a pale ale, it was crisp and refreshing. Not much to say other than a tasty pale ale.
3.5 On draft The Cedar Plank pours a clear golden yellow with a crisp off-white head that lasts a fair while. The aroma is floral hops, caramel and fresh biscuits. The flavor is a bit of caramel initially with some floral hops and some biscuit. It is very crisp and clean. Overall this is a pretty good brew.
3.7 On tap @ Taphouse in Seattle. Fairly dark orange-amber, lasting off white head. Aroma is citrus and earthy wood. The palate has citrus and pine in equal measure, tea-like undertones, peppery finish. Very good.
3.4 On draft at Proper Taproom. Poured hazy orange with skim of head. Splotches of lace. Light notes of grass, pine, grapefruit. No wood notes. Crisp and refreshing.
3.9 Piney-malty nose with a touch of orange, although in my bottle, I didn’t smell the cedar. Rich flavor with bitterness and maltiness nicely balanced. Slightly resiny-oily body with a very pleasant bitter finish. Very satisfying brew.
4.0 Above-average PA. Nothing really memorable here. Would’ve liked lesser ABV or more flavor.
3.9 Bottle. Cedar aroma up front and orange caramel aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange malt and moderately bitter cedar/grapefruit peel flavor. Very nice.
3.5 Poured from 22 oz. bottle. Clear, amber-orange with a 2-finger cream-colored head and very good lacing. Aroma of citrus, floral hops, woodsy cedar and pine, and mild stone fruit. Taste of grapefruit, orange, pine and bread. Medium body and medium carbonation.
