3.6 Sampled at the brewery and the beer gave a medium brown color with an off white top. A bit of sweet malt on the nose. Medium bodied brew. Gentle roasted malt with a touch of hops. Very easy to drink and pleasant beer.
3.4 This one poured a cloudy lighter brown color with an off white head. Aroma was roasted malts, some caramel and toffee and nuts as well. Flavor was mostly nouttyh and roasted, but a bit thin.
4.0 Cask at GF Festival. Clear dark amber hue, big thick tan head sustains. Nose is nutty malts, hints of vanilla and coffee. Flavor is classic nut brown ale, pecans, walnuts filling out the profile with some very light backing coffee and cocoa malts, hints of roast and light hop bitterness for balance, finishes slightly sweet. Light-medium body, light carbonation, watery texture. A wonderfully flavorful brown ale well in the session range, could drink this all night long and not feel bad.
3.6 Bottle pours brown with amber edges and a beige head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt. Flavor is lightly roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, with a very smooth mouthfeel.
3.4 Red -brown pour with off-white head. Caramel malt aroma. Nice chocolate flavor, some nuttiness and caramel, and a little bitter at the end. Lacing on the glass.
1.6 Hoppy nut brown ale? Pours medium brown with tan head, and a great start from the looks of the beer. Nose is somewhat restrained, throwing a slight caramel scent. Palate offers a strange contrast of rather big roasty/chocolatey sweet flavors with quite a bit of hop bitterness. Slows down the drinking for sure, almost as if this one is a stout or porter wannabe.
3.3 Bottle 12fl.oz. Clear medium amber color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, caramel, nutty, roasted notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20090321]
3.3 Bottle. Caramel brown color with a thin slightly tan head. Aroma of caramel and nutty. Flavor of caramel, nuts, and malts. A bit carbonated. A bit weak overall
3.3 Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of yespr/Ungstrup. Slightly hazy deep amber with a rough beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and nuts. Medium body, sweetish roasted malt and perhaps a little burned caramel. Lightly bitter finish. 210309
3.0 Poured a dark brown with a tan head. The aroma was a rich caramel malty, the flavor was caramel and malt, sweet with light hops and a nutty finish. There was a good carb on the palate and overall this was a well balanced beer with some rich maltiness. Too bad this is now retired.
2.5 Clear deep brown coloured body with a thin brown body and tons of small bubbles rising from the bottom and sides of the glass. Aroma of raisins, malt, alcohol, peat and yes - nuts. Medium-bodied; Light taste with malt and raisins most noticeable, some sweetness but mostly bland. Aftertaste is clean and short - not the typical nut brown at all. Overall, bland and unimpresive. Even for people who DO enjoy the style, this is passable. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Grape & Gourmet in Virginia Beach, VA on 12 September 2007.
3.1 Bottle. Very weak vinous aroma. Hazy brown colour. The flavour is OK roasted, has a little lactic citric note in the finish. Hint of roasted yeast?
3.5 12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma is dry malty, slight spiced and yes a bit nutty. Flavour is caramel, dark and dry with a distinct hoppy liqourice note and towards nutty flavoured. Subdued sweetness.
3.1 Milk chocolate brown body with just a touch of crimson. Tightly packed khaki head 1/8 inch in height. Aroma is honey roasted nuts; walnut, chestnut, and pecans. Flavor is predominantly caramel, toffee, and malt...but there is the distinguishable Green Flash hops that show themselves late. This was definitely an older bottle and the hops have mellowed, but I can only imagine what this was like fresh.
3.6 12oz bottle courtesy of mfielden. Pours a murky brown cola color with reddish highlights and a one finger tan head that settles slowly. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of honey, brown sugar, nuts, pecans, some hints of dark fruit, molasses. Flavor is sweet and malty with a sweet caramel and toffee notes along with hints of nuts, dark fruit, cherries, chocolate, and honey. Generally medium body with a pleasing malt finish.
3.5 Poured from a bottle a nice brown color with a small white head. Aroma as expected from a brown ale of caramel, nuts and chocolate. Malts come through in the taste with sweet caramel at the start and some slight bitterness to the finish. I’m glad I found some of this before it went away, since I see it is now retired.
3.2 medium brown color with slight ruby hues and a thick light tan foamy head with great retention and lacing. has a nutty caramely aroma. flavor is a bit grassy up front but then rounds out into a roasted flavor with subtle caramel. motuhfeel is a bit thin for my taste.
3.2 Received this as a kicker in a trade. Many similarities to an English style brown ale with a little nuttier taste probably achieved with the addition of some additional chocolate malt. Slight bitterness and lightly acidic almost reminds me of Samuel Smiths but not as smooth.
3.0 12 oz bottle pours a medium brown with ruby highlights and a slightly tan fluffy head. Hazelnuts and chocolate in the aroma. Slight bitterness in the beginning but then a rather mediocre brown that was a bit watery for my liking. The aroma had me excited, but I was let down.
3.2 Bottle from a trade ?? Pours hazy medium brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma is light caramel malt, moderately nutty with a hint of chocolate. Similar flavors, but with more of a roasted malt character. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. There are better Green Flash beers available.
3.6 Getting notebook online. Bottle. Pours golden brown. Real good caramel malt flavors. Mild hopiness a nice bonus. I really like this brown ale!
3.5 Bottle. Pours an amber brune body with an off white head. Nutty caramel malt, some hop character and no etoh in the finish. Simple and enjoyable.
3.1 Pretty good brown. Nuttiness as the name implies with lots of roasted malt. Dark brown with a nice head.
3.0 Bottle: pours a reddish-brown with a thin white head, aroma is malty with a hint of some caramel, taste is caramel, roasted malt, yeast, thin mouthfeel. Decent.
3.3 12 oz bottle. Nice toasty and slightly nutty aroma. Pour brown with slightly fizzy head, and some lacing on the glass. Flavor is of toast, with a little sweetness and nuttiness. Carbonation a little too aggressive for me. Solid nut brown ale.
3.0 A LITTLE TO BITTER FOR A BROWN ALE. NICE COLOR POURED DARK AND FOAMY. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO OTHER TOP NOTCH BROWN ALES.
3.1 A cloudy brown body with a nice tan head. Caramel sweetness, a little bit of chocolate and the nominal nuttiness all in the aroma. Caramel’s up front in the flavor. Not a horribly complex flavor though. Rather light bodied. Not terrible, just not interesting.
3.4 Pours amber / brown with a tan head. The aroma has nice toasted malt, hazelnuts, light cream and mild milk chocolate. Medium body that’s slick and smooth with fairly soft carbonation. The flavor starts with the aroma traits, but a but sharp and crisp. The finish has a touch more bitterness and is quite dry. A good brown ale.
3.0 Dark redish amber, Malty, Nutty, caramel, little dark fruits, slight coffee, dry finish.
3.5 Has a great caramel to the malt, and a hint of cherry flavor. A bit thin in flavor and palate and failed to achieve greatness, but a solid beer.
