Green Flash Palate Wrecker

Green Flash Palate Wrecker

Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!).

3.7 A 12 fl oz bottle with a best before date of 8th August 2017. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. It was a very nice clear copper amber colour with a two finger off white head that had great retention and left lots of nice sticky lacing. Aromas were earthy, piney with citrus mandarin, sweet candied orange and hints of caramel malt. Tastes of strong bitterness, lots of citrus rind, and whenever they can get through the bitterness, there’s some pine, orange, grapefruit, citrus peel with hints of bready malt and caramel. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall it was nice, but this definitely was a palate wrecker. A whole lot of bitterness, which I can certainly enjoy every now and then, but not too often.
4.1 Off white head stayed on rustic orange, still body. Huge hoppy aroma with bitter/sweet citrus & candy. Medium to full body. Thick, sticky, syrupy & tangy back. Full on hoppy flavours with malt, bitter pith, grapefruit & slightly acidic.
3.5 355ml bottle. Crystal clear amber colour with a frothy two finger off-white head. Aroma: hoppy - resin, fruit, pine. Taste: very resinous, piney, ripe fruits, caramel, malt. Very bitter, some sweetness but too much bitter hops for it to balance out. Medium body, soft carbonation. Not bad by any means but this type of DIPA doesn’t really do much for me personally now.
3.8 Bottle From Beer Revolution, Hay on Wye, Powys, consumed at Bearded Theory Festival, Saturday 27th May 2017 it was windier and cloudier today after yesterday’s amazing weather. Another difficult one to determine the colour and appearance through a green plastic drinking vessel but i’m guessing it’s hazy dark gold with a white head. Fruits with a good sweetness from the off, yes it’s very hoppy but the malt does soften and balances this out very well. A touch resiny and citrussy, it’s a really good fruity beer, not too dissimilar to Ruination. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
3.8 On tap at N.E. Tap House Grille Deep golden color with a long lasting frothy off white head. Rich tropical earthy resinous dank hops on the nose with bits of bready and light caramel to round it out. Flavor is a hint on the sweet side but the onslaught of hops balances that nicely. Moderate resinous earthy bitterness. Pretty tasty beer.
3.6 Pours deep golden with good off white head which lasts. Aromas of tropical fruit, pine, honey and cereal. Medium carbonation and good mouth feel. Big flavour of pine hops, alcohol and malt. Similar to Brewdog hardcore ipa. Big bitter finish and medium sweet
3.8 355ml bottle from Brewdog shop. Small white head, a little lacing. Clear amber body. Nose is pine, treacle, resin, stewed fruits. Big piney resinous flavour, apricot, molasses, then the bitterness really kicks in, lasting resinous bitter aftertaste. Light carbonation, good mouthfeel, a little bit of chew. This is a proper west coast DIPA, the bitterness is relentless. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
4.3 An excellent imperial IPA. Pours well, lovely rich colour, a good hoppiness but surprisingly not overwhelming. Excellent beer, surprisingly restrained and this is a good thing!
3.9 Bottle. Light amber body with white fast disappearing head. Aroma is fruity mostly apricots and tropical fruits. Taste is malts fruits and resin. Aftertaste is nice bitter.
4.2 Dank hops, pine and a touch of sherbet on the aroma. The flavour is amazing, initially bright citrus, then bitter hops. Brilliant .
3.7 on tap gold pour fluffy white head aroma is caramel and floral hops taste is very floral with a dry finish
3.9 pours amber with a huge fluffy head. the aroma is grapefruit, citrus, pine, resin, and tropical fruit. small amount of pineapple. the flavor is strong with malty but the hops are so complex i cant find any describable flavors that are not resin. the body is nice and smooth with a medium feel, overall this is quite good, very over the top tho!
4.0 Big and very light copper in colour this crazily heady and slightly sticky beer pulsates bitterness. The bitterness is fairly uncompromisi g and the acidity is sharp & cutting. Good.
3.7 Another solid IPA offering from Green Flash. Rich hop flavor that provides solid bitterness from start to finish. Well balanced and enjoyable to drink.
3.8 Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours clear gold with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of tropical fruit. Taste is tropical fruit, grapefruit, pine, resin, caramel. Extremely bitter finish.
3.8 Aroma: sweet and fruity; Appearance: clear amber pour with fluffy white head that dissipates quickly; Taste: richly malty with developing bitterness; fruity and smooth; Palate: medium body with long bitter finish; Overall: quite delicious in small quantities; too rich for larger portions. Would get again.
3.8 Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. An amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, pine aroma. Tastes rather similar, hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, some tropical fruit, pine, quite bitter. Decent DIPA.
3.6 A birthday beer poured from a growler. A nice beer to finish off a Friday.
4.0 Golden amber/brown in a big goblet. Smells strongly of Pine and hops. Tastes great, full on IPA flavor, with a nice underlying hint of spice and some malt. Very good Imperial. I’ll have this again From a bottle, within 3 days of purchase.
3.9 Keg at The Bottle Shop, Bermondsey, London in Apr 2017 - Clear Deep Orangey Bronze colour. Off-white head. Mega hoppy. Piney resinous hops. Very bitter citrus fruity, grapefruit, orange, rind. Underlying sweet malts, caramel. Very bitter hoppy and citrus fruity throughout. Lasting bitter finish. Enjoyable. Lovely hoppy fruity DIPA. (2017-04)
4.3 Bottle from Hops and Crafts Exeter. Pours clear burnished Amber with a off white head. Aroma piney hop, citrus, spruce & spice. Taste is piney hop, earthiness, ,citrus ,orange peel ,grapefruit, caramel with a lovely bitterness . Medium bodied, perfectly carbonated the finish is gum tingling with stickiness from the hops & more pine, orange peel ,grapefruit , Caramel & massive lovely bitterness . Great beer !
4.0 Pours beautiful clear amber, not much foam but what it has is leaving some beautiful lacings. Aroma is like a hoppy herbal fruit cake. Sweetness is there as you would expect from 9.5% beer, it is covered with some aggressive hops though. Resiny and tropical, actually feeling balanced. Taste reveals super resiny and hop-oily body, sweetness is strong also but covered thick with these hop oils. For me, it also feels drinkable so its actually somewhat dangerous, easy to drink too much of it which at 9.5% is no child’s play. Kind of feels like something I wanted right now, so good to try this.
3.7 Intense pine, alcohol, tropical fruits, dank and overripe, mango, papaya, passion fruit, blood orange. Clear, dark gold, small, creamy, white head. Medium bitter. Bitterness intensifies, very bitter indeed, tropical fruits, pine, mango, papaya, alcohol, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Nice IIPA, loads of pine. Keg at The Bottle Shop, Bermondsey.
4.6 Oh my! Very hoppy but oh so nice. The Palate Wrecker is surprisingly smooth, but has a nice bite.
3.7 Wine Warehouse bottle. Amber, beige head. Lovely grapefruit aroma. Flavor is thick grapefruit, pine, honey, tropical fruit, spruce. Tasty!
4.4 Copper with a thin white head. Aroma is pine resin, catty, eucalyptus. Huge malty/hoppy flavors with loads of bitterness with just enough balancing malt to keep my tongue on its hinges. Long, lovely, bitter finish. I’d have another but my palate is now wrecked.
3.9 On tap at Maddy’s Tap Room, Washington DC on 5-Mar-2017. Clear copper colour with a small white head. Aroma of sweet malt, citrus, tropical fruit and pine. Medium body and carbonation. Taste of honey, caramel, malt, grapefruit, pineapple, orange peel and spices. Heavily bitter with a bittersweet fruity, hoppy and alcoholic finish. A pretty good IPA and nice one for my 100th rating.
4.2 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 8/1/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear medium orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, honey, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, honey, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, honey, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/sticky/resinous, and slightly slick balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 9.5%. Overall this is an outstanding DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV, and despite the drying bitter/resinous finish. Very dank and juicy on hops; nice malt backbone, but never too sweet or heavy. A highly enjoyable offering.
3.8 So we meet again. 2017. Pouring the distinct color I remember. Rich gold, bordering copper. Head falls to a nice layer of thin lace and a vibrant ring on the outsides. Such a classic DIPA nose with that extra edge of Simcoe; candied orange and lemon laid upon a bright caramel malt backbone, and you get a ton of underlying prickly herbaceous pine/earth notes underneath. Just loving the classic, familiar aromas of the Columbus and Centennial. Flavor boasting such lupulin resin, immediately presented with over-ripe grapefruit, candied lemon, sweet orange, honey malt, all encompassed in a stupid amount of resinous pine on the palate. There have been only two other beers as bitter as this to me. Pure Hoppiness and Ruination. But this is bitter without becoming "soapy". It nearly gets there, but the malt stands up, and the tropical essences of Simcoe really push that balance. I don’t know why this is getting so much shit, but I love bitter as fuck beer. Just like I want my coffee and my teas. Bitter is refreshing, jarring, and sometimes needed. Not always. But this one is hitting the spot, yet again.
3.4 On tap. Pours a mostly clear amber with a thin head and light lacing. Aroma is woodsy, strong. Taste is pleasant enough, quite tangy, hoppy, enough malt. The thing here is, it seems a bit much. Massive flavor. Strong bitterness. Wild. This one is good but almost unnecessarily so. Maybe I prefer it just a little tamer...
