3.8Pours a cloudy brown amber with a small short lived beige head. Aroma and Taste of sweet dark caramel malt, raisins, a bit of dry dark fruit figs, plums with some yeast, brown sugar, mild bitterness and sweet alcohol esters. Palate is medium to full body, smooth and a sweet sticky mouth feel. Finishes with sweet caramel malt, raisins, dark fruit, plums, sweet sour flavor, yeast, ending is mildly bitter with a dry alcohol. Lingering notes of caramel and raisin sweetness. Overall I found this to be a very well made and tasty brew.
3.3Bottle at Oliver Twist. Amber colour with a beige head. Aroma is fruity, malt, spice. Flavour is malt, spices, caramel, dark fruit.
3.812oz bottle shared by my buddy Ryan. Not sure how long he’s had this bottle but it’s definitely mellowed out. The beer as a whole is great and I actually prefer a mellowed out scotch ale.
2.8Bottle. Pours a dark reddish/deep caramel color. Little head. The aroma is full of dark fruits and toffee. The taste is a little thin. Has some toffee follow in the taste. An average scotch ale.
3.5Bottle. Really solid for the style. Warm ruby amber in color, caramel sweetness, nice hoppy spice to balance, rich body, sweet finish. Excellent collabo.
3.7Really solid scotch ale. In fact, this is what I think of when I am told "scotch-ale." Malty, sweet, rich, right on point for the style. Good collaboration.
3.6Bottle from Stone Brewing store: Appeared as a dark mahogany amber hue with minimum layer of film for a head. Aroma is well balanced with lightly toasted caramel malts being the main attraction while a note of coffee lingers in the faint background. The taste is intensely sweet with a thick and heavy base of caramel malts that give off tastes of sugar, but there is a nice usage of hops and yeast that focuses all the energy on the malt of this Scotch ale. One of the best Scotch ales I’ve had, and considering how Scotch ales are my least favorite, this beer still holds its grounds.
3.3Bottle from Russell’s Liquors. Pours brown with a small head that leaves no lacing. Lots of malt on the nose. Sweet on the tongue with a touch of peat. Finishes clean. Solid but I should have drunk it last year.
3.119th March 2011
Clear dark red beer. tiny tan head. Crispy palate. Sweetish and crisp malt. Subtle coca cola and marmite. Finishes with a carbonated bite and a trace of bubblegum.
3.1This was probably one of my least favorite Stone collaborations, I usually enjoy them. Dark brown color and not much head. Smells like a scotch ale at first, peaty and malty and then a blast of alcohol that I did not enjoy in the least. The flavor was malty and decent but nothing special at all. I’d take an Oskar Blues Old Chub over this beer every single time.

3.3This beer has been aged since I bought it in February 2011 and opened October 2012. The beer was rather flat when poured with no head. Very light carbonation. Very malty with little to no hop character. Smooth and slight sweetness stands out. Ok overall.
2.8pours a clear brownish with a red tint, little to no head, and no lacing.
smell is of butterscotch, malt, and brown sugar.
taste is oily, butterscotch, roasted malt, and ends a little bitter.
3.512 ounce bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a small biege head. Aroma of malt, caramel, and dark fruit. Taste is malt, cherries, other dark fruits, and caramel. Hints of alcohol and smoke. Enjoyable.
4.0Smokey roasted aromas, with a smooth body of malty cocoa, caramel and smoke. Creamy, long finish. A great BBQ beer.
2.7Draught at Moeder Lambic, Fontainas
Beautiful dark amber color, bright, with creamy head. Inexpressive aroma of roasted malt and toasted nuts. Caramel flavor, and some malt, with some sweetness; the alcohol and bitterness are so high to be disturbing. Annoying, difficult to drink.
3.212 oz bottle. It pours a dark orange/brown color with a small orange head. The aroma is kind of like an imperial amber ale. Fruity, sweet candy, caramel and mild floral hops. The flavor is sweet and very fruity with some mild phenolic funk in the finish. Full bodied and heavy on the palate. The funk in the finish throws this one off as I’m not sure it was intended on this one.
3.8Reddish brown pour with a thin white head. Aromas and taste is very malty, notes of cherry, dark fruit, sugar, and caramel malts. This is a very nice and rich scotch ale. Hope it comes around again.
3.812oz bottle from Andersons in Sylvania. Murky brown pour with a half inch light tan head. Aroma is big and brown - molasses, dark fruit, sugar, scotch. Tastes are more of the same with caramel, dark bread and some spices. Sweet, but not overly so and covers the alcohol well. Nice little sipper.
3.1Bottle date December 2010. Beer pours reddish brown, small head which fades pretty quick, small white lace. smells of raisin, fruity malty and slight caramel , very light carbonation almost flat, taste not to heavy, slight warming and nutty taste. Just ok
3.212 oz bottle. Pour is plum red/purple. Small head that went away quickly. Aromas and taste is very malty, notes of cherry, raisin, candy sugar, and caramel. Carbonation is moderate. This was a very bready and rich scotch ale. Not on the same level as a Wee Heavy from Alesmith or McChoufe but still a drinkable scotch. Warming in the body. Decent collaboration from Stone, Pizza Port, and Green Flash.
3.6Real good beer. Sadly the nose outdoes the flavor on this one. The nose has this deep, strong, rich, condensed malt aroma... almost like a malt jam. Just incredible, with a hint of bread and smoke. The flavor flattens out a bit, offering you simply nice caramel malts in a standard, but well-done scotch ale style. Nothing fantastic on that front to give it an 8 or a 9.
3.8Pours a chestnut color some ruby high lights and is quite nearly opaque. A dencent foamy cap with good rentention. Aromas are pretty standard some roasted malts sweet toffee and a light scent of butter or diacetyl. Tastes good with toffee malts in the lead. Some hints of roasted malts and maybe a suggestion of smokiness. The end finishes with a molasses taste and warming alcohol. A medium bodied ale that has a smooth and soft feel. A good beer made nicely to style.
3.6Pour on tap at Muddy Waters, hazy reddish pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of peaty smoke, hints of caramel, toffee, hints of nuts, touch of nuts and earth, slight grass. Taste is a nice mix of caramel, smoke, hints of nuts, touch of toffee, slight sweet fruits, finishing fairly sweet but dries out fairly well. Nice!
3.2Cloudy brown body and thin bubbly head. Oak barrel in the aroma and a big floral. Tastes a little flat, but this could be due to cellaring this too long. Very malty flavor.
3.612 ounce bottle. Poured cloudy without head. Malty, leathery, raisins, fruity alcohol, toffee, caramel. A nice Scottish ale with just a touch of hot alcohol.
3.0In short: Scented soft candies with fruit juice in a bottle. Acceptable.
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed 6 months after purchase, but almost one year after bottling if only one batch of this beer was made
The look: Cloudy burgundy body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose shows a foundation of sweet malts but also a surprisingly strong flowery/perfumy component. Taste has soft creamy toffee, soft aromatic candies (similar to jelly beans), fresh juicy fruits, soft liquorice candy. The fruitiness here was all over the place and I noted bananas (!!!), darker fruits and even kiwis. For a scotch ale the sweetness sensation was rather low. I think this is a well made beer, but it is just not my kind of beer. Named after a state highway that I assume connects these three California breweries, and thanks to the USA Interstate Highways it is now possible to travel all around the country without seeing anything.
4.1Smells like olives. Pours nice dark - meaty looking. A little watery mouth feel. Oaky, scotch flavor....buttery.....maybe butter-scotch? A terrific, bold beer.
3.412 oz bottle from Bottle Barn. Nose is toffee and slightly singed caramel and sweetness. Clear reddish copper with a medium beige head. Flavor is toffee, roastiness, and a little background bitter.
3.6Pours a brownish orange color. Malty and delicious. Some caramel and brown sugar. Has some bitterness in the taste! Mmm
3.7Deep red color and has thin whitish head. The smell is deep caramel, sweet, burnt sugars, malts, and raisin. The taste is sweet, caramel, layers of flavors, deep, chocolate, and good.
