Green Flash West Coast IPA

Green Flash West Coast IPA

This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.

Editor’s Note: Brewed until 2013 and from 2019 onwards. Formerly 7.1% If you had the 8.1% abv version marketed since 2014 as a Double India Pale Ale, this is the wrong beer page. Please rate under Green Flash West Coast IPA (2014 -).

4.2 Bold strong IPA. Not going to drink a 6 pack but I is delicious
3.8 Draft. Copper color with a white head. Hoppy, herby, and fruity aromas. Tropical fruit, pine resin, caramel, and grapefruit. Lingering bitter finish, almost too much.
4.4 22 oz bomber poured into TMac 20oz mug. Hazy copper color with thin head. Aroma is piney, resinous with citrus overtones. Flavor is fresh hops up front the fades into a toasty malt and ends with a nice bitterness. Overall, I love this beer; it’s one of my “go to” west coast style IPAs.
5.0 It's a good go to beer! Not to strong, but just right😉
4.7 Classic west coast IPA always a great choice! If you like IPA then you'll love this beer
4.1 At the Va Bch Brewery, smoothe, delicious, great mouth feel, sl citrus and floral, mild resin Excellent
3.7 In San Francisco. Pours copper with no head. Creamy cold with crisp citrus hops. A quick middle of caramel and a hint of sugar. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
4.0 Acquired from Chopz via trade. 7.3%abv. Poured a very huge brownish head, but doesn’t really stay long. Leaves sporadic bubbles and foam with a small ring inside. Dirty patchy lacing. Has an amber/coppery appearance. Aromas of strong citrus and floral hops. Has a bit of a toasty malts scent as well. Strong citrus hop flavours. Nice bitterness to balance out the sweetness. Some nutty malt flavours and hints of spices as well, not too strong. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Smooth and well balanced between bitterness and sweetness. Pretty darn good stuff!
3.7 Originally rated on 12/31/08. The aroma of pine was so pungent that it borders on skunky, The body was a slightly cloudy copper color. Mouthfeel was a little stickey but o.k. Flavor had a little malt to it but the grassy, piney hops overwhelmed them, good bitterness that didnt hang around forever. Overall it was a pretty decent beer.
4.0 Bottle. Copper in colour. Mega-Hoppy; piney resinous oily and grass hops. Fruity; citrus grapefruit and lemon. Solid malty backbone. Great stuff. Definitely one for hopheads. Terrific IPA! (2010-10)
4.0 As old-guard IPAs went, this was pretty great, although the bitterness always bothered me. Still, a classic.
4.3 coppery orange color with off-white foam that although not abundant not disappear in the glass leaving snaps into the vessel walls. The aroma is intense, spicy citrus, with cuts of fresh pine, grapefruit, flowers and final malt nuances, caramel and some alcohol. The palate begins with a torrent of bitter citrus slowly giving way to a mixture of sweetish nuances of caramel and bitter as pine resin malt, grapefruit with a slight alcoholic sensation. But dry finish tour. medium body and moderate carbonation.
3.5 Oranssinruskea, sameahko olut. Valkoinen, nopeasti häviävä mutta kuitenkin pitsiä jättävä vaahto. Tuoksu hyvin vahva; havuinen ja hedelmäinen. Maku yllättävän katkera jättäen pitkään kestävän katkeran jälkimaun. Greippisyys nousee esiin. Ei ehkä ihan omaan makuun sopivin.
4.0 Pours a deep dark orangish amber color. Aromas of big hop action, sweet malts, and more hops. Flavor has some bready maltsy tastes with nice grapefruit and floral hop taste.
3.5 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Originally reviewed 6/5/2011. Very hazy golden body that looks darker because of a slight murkiness. Nice two finger head and beautiful stick-looking lacing. Smells like a hop monster. Piney and grassy hops. Not even a hint of malt. Just a hint of citrus hops. Taste is exactly the same as the smell. Strong hop flavors of pine and grass. A brief sweetness of malt and then it gives way to a lingering bitterness. It love the hoppiness, but it’s pretty unbalanced. Well carbonated and medium bodied, but it’s so high in carbonation it’s tough to tell. Such a low amount of malt that it’s super easy to drink. I could put a bottle away in minutes. A hop bomb.
Bastante buena.
3.1 Pours a beautiful golden orange. Clear but not too frothy. Surprisingly mild aroma. Extra bitter taste that lingers on the palette.
4.2 Cloudy appearance. Copper color. Two-finger head that holds for quite along time. Spotty lacing. Aroma consist of citrusy hops, grapefruit, and somewhat of a malty backbone. Sticky texture. Medium bodied. Seems to have a more caramelly, vanilla, malty feel to it. Taste like a kicked up peanut butter. It does have a bite in the finish. I love how this beer is all over the map. Great job Green Flash. Thanks for being a west coast brewery.
4.1 From old notes. 650 ml bottle. Hazy orange color with off white head. Hoppy and malty aroma, pine, grassy, grapefruit, light caramel. Sweet and heavy biter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
3.8 Great overall beer. My go to at any bar that offers it. Highly recommended for someone trying to expand their beer profile
3.4 Old bottle. Hazy amber color with medium beige head. Aroma has grapefruit, peach, apricot, some citrus fruits and resin, with some malty backbone; but is not intense due to the old age. Taste follows the aroma, tropical fruits, sweet citrus fruits and resin, with a kicking bitter aftertaste.
1.8 A true American IPA with lots of nice foam. You simply can not bestow it up without lots of yeast residues end up in the glass. It has an unexpected odor of fruit. Both melon, orange, lemon and apricot increases in the nose. The taste is also short-lived fruity, but also short of it is saturated with lots of hops as downright bombarding your mouth. The finish is long and very dry. I know that American IPAs tend to be aggressive, but here I think probably that it has gone too far. It is far too hoppy for me.
Excelente.
3.7 A little disappointing that this beer was still sitting in the store in 2015 when it was bottled in 2012, but I didn’t notice that when I picked it up. However, it’s pretty clear that this beer has been handled properly. No off flavors. I wouldn’t know it was three years old if I hadn’t checked the date at the bottom to make sure I was rating the right one. Some of the fresh hop aroma is missing, but this is still in prime shape. Caramel in the malt.
3.8 Enjoyed on tap at the Kansas City Barbecue in San Diego, where the piano scene from Top Gun was filmed. Show me the way home, honey! Pours a beautiful, perfectly clear copper with a 1.5 finger off-white head that’s foamy, dense, and recedes slowly, leaving a thick filmy top layer and sticky sheets of lace. Citrus and sweetness in the nose. Lots of lime, orange, mango, pine. Not much malt, but who needs it? In the flavor, bitter grapefruit peel mixes with orange juice, nice light tropical fruits, lemon, lime, a subtle dank character and mint. Light pale backbone, maybe some honey. Prickly medium carbonation and a smooth medium body. Nice fullness. Heavily bitter, but not too bad. An aptly-named effort from Green Flash, for the flavors of this beer epitomize to me the West Coast IPA. Lovely.
4.0 This was one of my fav IPAs while still living in San Diego (06 to10).. Sad to see it retired. Thought I had rated it several times but I guess somehow it slipped through the cracks. Anyway, simply stated this IPA is one of the epitomes of San Diego style.. zesty, powerful but also real laid back.. This was a regular order for me from draft houses.. Oh well.. looking forward to trying the next in line...
3.8 6.4.2014. Hazy orange, thick lasting head. Fresh aroma, grapefruit. Taste is citrus, dryish bitter, maybe a bit too dry for my taste. Good US IPA anyway.
4.7 Top of the line IPA. Ben a favorite for 3 years now solid. Pisses me off that it’s sold in a 4 pack. It’s good but doesn’t need to be priced so much higher than something like a Stone IPA. If they sold this as a 6r or in a case for a reasonable price I’d buy a lot more. Nevertheless, very pleasantly piney, beautifully hopped, and a bit more on the dry hopped end.
3.1 *Old rating from 2012. The beer starts fruity and smooth, fresh, but way too sweetish. Nice, fruity-floral, sweet.
3.5 Great full flavored IPA - great appearance, very piney and hoppy but fullness smooths it out a bit. Very much in the Sierra Nevada Torpedo range and that is a much more affordable alternative.
