1.8 Pours a dark gold color with a decent off white head which quickly fades. Musty hop aroma makes me cringe but the taste is not bad, malty with a caramel note and some mild bitterness.
1.9 Bottle - Poured a darkish amber in color with a medium, almost creamy white head that hung around. Aroma is somewhat sweet and malty with a distinct "graininess". Not much in the way of hops. Flavor is typical of what I have come to expect from AB’s "premium" beers... lackluster flavor, little hopping and containing too much of the "megaswill" influence to be a really good beer... bred for profit and the bottom line and not quality and taste. Not impressive, even if it is "organic", that does not make it *good*!
2.1 Bottle. Amber body, smallish off-white head, kind of an American Standard nose. Not much here, watery, bland, bland, bland.
3.4 So I expected this beer to be much hoppier than it is, being named "Wild Hop" but I guess it’s just because the hops are organic. It does have good flavor though. Has a dark golden-orange color, not quite amber. No head to speak of. Light aroma. High carbonation. I didn’t know this was an AB beer until I saw it here on Ratebeer, and it does almost seem like a Bud Light with much more flavor too it. Easily drinkable.
2.1 Gold, small white head. Grainy nose. Flavor of corn, light malt, thin and bland
2.0 Bottle. Pours amber with big fluffy head. Sweet, malty aroma. And then thats all to really classify it as a beer. Theres no taste. Slight malty finish to it. Theres just nothing there.
2.5 12oz bottle. Big fluffy head. Crisp dark amber. Light aroma. I was nervous about having this after a DIPA but one sip has cleansed my palate. i may have to pick up a case for that purpose in the future. Minimal flavour until the finish. Hint of pepper and taste of apples.
3.3 12 oz. bottle. I didn’t realize until I went to record my rating that this is an AB product, and I am glad for that. Pours a clear gold with a moderate white head that lasted until about mid-glass and left some spotty lacing. Some light floral hops aroma in the nose. The flavor is light malt with light hops bitterness at the finish. I honestly enjoyed this beer and I think this beer’s ratings suffer from its association with AB.
2.4 THOUGHTS: It’s OK. Being organic doesn’t hurt it any, but it doesn’t make it any better. Not bad, but definitely not good. Very one-sided. TECHNICAL: Poured a clear, medium to dark yellow with and average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate caramel malt and very light hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and acidic, while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly bitter and sour with a short to average duration. The flavor was caramel malt and light metallic hops.
1.8 Bottle. Not a very good beer. I suppose with a name like "Wild Hops" you would expect a strong hoppy taste but not so!. Would not recommend.
2.0 The deep coppery color of this beer promised much more than it could deliver. The high carbonation level, slightly sour taste on the tongue and burnt oats aftertaste made this brew mediocre, at best. Try again.
2.3 12 oz. bottle, nice try at an end run by AB, but still not much better than the rest of their stuff, tinny flavor with watery finish
2.2 Reddish-orange color with quickly dissipating head. Grassy, hoppy aroma. Pretty grassy, slightly herbal, and hoppy taste. Pretty high level of carbonation. Goes down pretty harshly for a lager. Surprised to see Anheuser-Busch behind an organic beer, but then, perhaps that’s why it seems to misfire. I think of lagers as easy drinking beers that go well with spicy or light food, and I don’t think this would work well that way.
2.1 I didn’t know it was an ABC product until I came online. Pours hazy golden color with thick crown of soapy foam. Rusty penny aroma. Slick, oily gassy mouthfeel. Pretty balanced: more on the sweet side of things with a slight grassy tinge. Thin, insubstantial, watery and doesn’t hold its own. However, it’s real nice to see organic farming being supported and promoted in whatever way.
2.0 Not much of a flavor here. Was really let down.I think I’ll stay away from organic stuff for a while at least.
2.2 Somehow I knew this was not going to live up to the phrase "wild hop," but it was even more dissapointing than I had expected. Poured a sparkling clear copper, with thin head. Aroma is nice - sweet hops with some yeast undertones. The flavor falls well short of that. A malty herb biscuit flavor that is flat, watery and boring. This is the second time I’ve fallen for the Green Valley label... won’t happen again.
1.4 On tap: Not good at all. Hard to drink because it was so bad. No head at all and a very clear appearance. Tastes like all of the macro lagers. Blah.
2.5 Not as hoppy as i expected had some nice malt undertones. Kinda watery taste though. Was suprised that it was a A-B Brewing beer.
3.2 I didn’t know this beer had any relationship to A-B brewing. For a lager this is quite good. If Bud tasted like this I would drink it more often. Nice hop and malt balance. Two finger head, amber color. Truly not in Sam Adams category but getting there. Very sessionable brew. Recommended. Good transition beer. If A-B helped create this beer kudos to them. All is not lost!
2.1 12 oz bottle, thanks wells bells for leaving in my fridge the other night. This beer poures a thin head with olmost no aroma. Tast is organic, very watered down. Wouldn’t buy it, but would drink it.
2.0 Not very hoppy what so ever. Tasted a little watered down with a taste that didnt last to long on the palate. Cheap beer, dont think I will ever get myself...Thanks WellsBells.
2.2 Poured a nice amber color, with a decent head that disappeared quickly and left nothing on the glass. No real aroma - perhaps some maltiness. Taste also was unimpressive - I was expecting a hoppy beer (go figure), but this disappointed. Medium body, with more carbonation than I expected from the lack of a head. Oh well, I had to at least try it - my wife tells me organic is good.
2.4 Yes a quite hoppy lager at first. But you know how lagers are on the hops, its in a processed way. Pretty good on the enjoyabilty scale. Hop bite but not offensive. Easy to consume. Yellowish head and a ubiquitous pale mellow yellow american lager appearance. Somewhat metallic on the olfactory at times. Overall, a good beer once I got used to it!
2.9 Decent organic beer. Interesting a lager with so much hop presence I kind of liked the stark contrast between the sweetness of a lager with noticeable hop bitterness.
2.8 I chose this beer because of the name. I am a hop head, do not call a beer Wild Hop unless it will stand out with hoppiness. It was very average overall. I enjoyed this beer but expectations were of something much hoppier. Much better than a mas produced beer, with a good mouthfeel. If it were called Green Valley Lager expectations would have been lower and perhaps my rating would have been higher.
4.0 (Bottle) This was outstandingly flavorful for this type of beer. I find the other (low) reviews outright puzzling; are people prejudiced against this beer because of the association with Anheuser-Busch? Admittedly, this is the first good beer I’ve tried out of them. The hops had a strong aromatic quality, extremely complex...with a light fruity and floral scent evolving into a rich and complex aftertaste. This beer is a little sweet and not terribly bitter, but for this style, it is absolutely outstanding. And the organic factor has to give it a couple bonus points.
3.0 Green Valley Brewing Wild Hop Lager is a light amber colored beer with a sand colored head that fades to a dense foam and leaves nice tea-leaf pattern lacing on the glass. The malt seems to be the only thing in the aroma. It smells sweet, simple and boozy. I can’t really find any hops in the aroma. There is a slightly fresh earth tone that I thought was from the yeast, but it’s a lager yeast, so... It is very soft with a light-by-medium body. It leaves the tongue crisply and in an acidic manner, like taking a bit out of an apple. There is slight evidence that hops were used-- mainly in the acidic finish. The flavor is pretty nondescript; perhaps papery, grainy, possibly lemony. No off-flavors, really. Not bad, A-B! This whips the ass of a Bud but isn’t quite into Sam Adams territory.
2.4 Clear amber appearance with a small off white head and little lacing. Subdued, sweet malt, slightly grainy, aroma. Bready, caramel malt taste, moderatley hopped, followed by more graininess. Gummy, medium bodied mouthfeel with a metallic finish.
2.0 This is made by Busch???? Im impressed....Had a very nice hoppy aroma, great hop flavor with nice malt flavor as well. Pours clear straw yellow and somewhat better then thin white head. I actually told people to try this beer...
3.2 (Bottle from Lou’s Beverage Barn) This is really not bad...Pours clear light yellowish amber with a fairly tall biege head. Surprisingly fairly rich aroma of caramel, vanilla and light citrus and pine. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth but without much texture, lightly prickly. Some spotty, weepy lacing. Flavor is a nice balance of malt and hops - a good dose of caramel, vanilla, egg and bread, even a very light bit of smokiness, along with a lightly piney bitter hit on back end. Seems like a Vienna more than anything and not a bad one at that - it does have a bit of mass-produced "slickness" to it which is probably the worst thing about it.
