Greenbush Anger Black IPA

Greenbush Anger Black IPA

A haughty black ipa with a bit of pent-up attitude for those "special" days. Our addicting little black IPA using Belgian dark malts and dry-hopped for intense aroma. 7.6% ABV and 85 IBU’s. Release some bottled-up Anger and learn to enjoy life a little.

3.7 355 cl bottle @ Timo A. Pours dark mahogany color with a small head. Aroma is quite nice with citric fruits, some salmiac, dark malts, subtle cocoa notes too. Flavor is bitter malty, dark fruits, lemon, hops, subtle resin notes and mild grapefruits. Refreshing, leans just the right amount to the fruity side. Nice. 3515
3.9 Bottle. Pours a deep blackish brown with a frothy tan head. Aromas are a mix of powdered chocolate and pine needles and flavor is similar with most of the kick coming from resinous piney hops in the finish. It’s very nicely balanced for a BIPA and an excellent example of the style...
3.4 Poured a darker brown, with a beige head. Aroma was of resinous hops and tar. Flavor similAr, lightly burnt ash, resinous and orangey hops. Ehh.
4.0 Bottle shared at Kickbacks. Pours a dark brown black with a tan head. Aromas of orange and pine. Slightly woody. Taste is balanced between bitter and roasty. Very good black IPA.
3.7 Bottled 07/08/15. Just about 90 days on it. Pour into tulip, black, almost chestnut as the light shines through on the pour. Big mocha colored head, very creamy. Looks good. First whiff, I get a big piece of candied orange, or some tropical fruit, maybe pineapple, def. citrus notes. But the power of that dissipates quickly into heavy roasted malt notes. Coffee dominant, some mild chocolate. Malt is really nice. If you dig for it, the citrus is there, but it’s almost more of a hoppy stout. As for flavor, the stout qualities really dominate, but this may be b/c it’s 90 days past bottling, maybe fresher it’d be more citrus-y. Still not into stout territory, but getting there. Roasted malt, chocolate, mild citrus in there except for the hop bite where the hops resurface. Pretty solid mouthfeel on that bad boy. It’s a good black IPA. Is it the best? No, but it’s def. something I’d drink again.
4.0 Bottle:   Black, very nice light khaki head, fine bubbles, very sticky lacing... probably one of the better looking Black IPAs.   Spicy nose, like a spiced dark chocolate.   Smooth on the tongue, sweet roasted malts, with that dark chocolate with a hint of some sort of spice.   I want to say some sort of cinnamon and maybe some chilies.   Very interesting, and different.   Smooth on the tongue, almost full bodied.   Clean finish, soft roasted malts, a bit sweet, with the aformentioned spices.   This one is very unique, and very welcomed.   Great example!
4.1 Very dark and very good. Chocolate notes mixed with hearty hops. This is a great example of a black ipa. Must try.
3.5 This black IPA pours a giant, foamy head with a nose of anise and resiny hops. First taste is of mild tobacco and black pat malt, then fades into roasty bitterness. Head retention is good. A medium bodied brew and a solid brew. Would like more juicy hops in this to make it stand out.
3.3 Pours thick dark coffee in color with a lady beige head. The aroma is light roasted not quite burnt coffee. Flavor is nice roasted coffee notes and pretty subtle hops after that.
3.4 This draft beer from a beer bar poured a small sized head of fine to medium sized mostly diminishing brown colored bubbles that left behind an opaque dark black colored body with no visible carbonation and a fair lacing. The aroma was mild with black malty notes. The palate was tingly from start to finish with a lingering black malt hoppy note. The flavor was good with strong black hops and a mild roasted malt note. A very good example of a Black IPA and one I would not mind having again.
4.2 Greenbush equals great beer. They knock it out of the park again with this dark and malty black pirates beer of an ipa. Enjoy.
4.1 12 oz pour at watershed in Chicago. Wonderful aroma of pine hops and roasted malt. Tasted fantastic with the same taste as was the aroma with a full bodied mouthfeel. Would definitely, and will drink again.
4.0 12 oz. bottle pours a dark brown/with moderate beige head that leaves good lacing. Aroma has citrus and piney hops with some roasted coffee and perhaps even coconut. Taste is bitter at the start with some caramel sweetness and roastiness in the middle before the bitterness lingers in the finish. Body is medium to full with average carbonation and a slightly oily mouthfeel. There’s a lot more going on here than I expected. A great black IPA I’ll definitely try again.
4.4 By far one of my favorite beers from Greenbush right next to the Star Chicken Shot Gun.
3.8 12oz bottle as an extra from Mr_Abner. Thanks, Dan! Pours dark mahoghany with a big beige head. Aroma is grapefruit and pine. Taste is caramel, chocolate, coffee grinds followed by grapefruit and pine bitterness. A solid black IPA.
3.7 Though an IPA, the aromas are mostly malt-like - roasted aromas, coconut(!),. Hops provide some grapefruit and general bitterness. Large, though not too persistent, light brown head. Dark almost black color. Taste includes a bit of sweetness, a fair amount of bitterness and just a hint of sourness. Body is moderate to heavy, texture is a bit slick and a bit oily; average carbonation and a long finish that’s sweet, bitter, roasted and citrusy. Overall I like the diversity of flavors in this beer; not great but nice and interesting.
3.7 ブラックIPA 香りは、ポップ←黒の香ばしい感じが半々 味はスタウト→IPAの感じ
4.0 12 oz Bottle. Appearance is dark brown/black color with medium, beige head--in color, head, and lacing this is a beautiful beer. Aroma is forward with the citrus hops, grapefruit, lemon, pine with a subtle roasty, coffee note in the background. Taste is nice and bitter with the herbally, piney flavors showing. Roasted malt coffee and slight sweet caramel are also present. Palate is medium to full-bodied, creamy texture, and nice and dry in the finish. Great beer.
4.2 The aroma is a little light at first, then hints of malts - coffee, roasty, a little smokiness then a touch of hoppiness - spruce. Pours a dark brown with a big light brown head, mostly lasting and excellent lacing. The taste is WOW - bitter; I would say smokey and rich and yummy but that’s not allowed (for me anyway). The body is medium to full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively, the finish bitter and long. Overall WOW - I am a fan of Greenbush now! Very Good!!
3.7 Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark brownish black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, some nice pine, grass, some slight orange in there as well, some slight roast. Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, roast, coffee, hints of orange and grapefruit, finishing slightly sweet, slightly bitter.

3.5 Ok. Not exciting. Half ipa half imperial but not the way you think. Would have again. Tap
3.6 Bottle from Binny’s in Bloomingdale, IL. Dark cola pour with a soapy tan head. Aroma is citrus and pine on top of chocolate malt. Malt-forward taste with some citrus sweetness. Solid black IPA.
4.0 Darker black body. Looks kind of like a cola. Big hop aroma with some sweetness. Lots of chocolate taste. Good amount of hop flavor. Mouthfeel similar to coke.
3.6 Like the name. This is my second Greenbush, and it has "IPA" on the label, so I will (as a hopeless hop-head, be critical. Looking forward to the 85 IBU. Good pour, a dark, dark brown body with a tall sudsy head that slowly vanishes in chunks, pasting gobs of lace on the glass. It’s got a resinous, zesty aroma, very little of the malt coming through. The flavor starts with the malt, a bit of dark caramel (maybe), but is soon taken over by the sharp citrus, zest and pine tastes and a sturdy, growing bitterness. (Nice.) The hefty ABV doesn’t really show itself until it’s in the bloodstream. Good ale. I’m not really big on Black IPAs, but this is a repeater for me.
3.7 On tap at Graydon’s Crossing. Nice roasty nose, coffee with molasses and smoky notes. Bit of chocolate. Dark black opaque with creamy tan head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts moderately sweet, roasted coffee, chocolate, and molasses. Big hop flavors. Finish is chocolate and hoppy bitterness. Bitter after.
3.9 Location: Draft at Girl and the Goat, 7/5/14 Aroma: The nose is a nice mix of chocolate malts and pine/resiny hops Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a nice forth of tan/light brown head Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, nice balance, some sweetness, but leans bitter Palate: The body is medium, it has a solid mouthfeel, smooth, with a decent dryness Overall Impression: A very nice example of the style overall. I enjoyed this beer, and I also thought it held up well with the food at this excellent restaurant.
3.7 Draft. Pours black. Aroma is pine and chocolate. Taste is hops and citrus with a chocolate underlining.
3.4 First off, I’m not a big fan of black IPAs, but a beer buddy here in the office is a monster fan, so I get to try lots of them. Anger is black with a tiny tan head. The aroma is roasted grain, coffee, dark chocolate and booze. The taste is essentially identical, with citrus and pine hops thrown in. The roasting seems to be a tad on the burnt side. Anger isn’t quite for me, but it is a quality beer nonetheless.
3.7 Black pour with a single finger espresso head. Lots of pine and citrus, along with a little grass. Creamy full mouth. Long bitter finish. Nice caramel sweetness with a little chocolate. Nice roast. Very easy drinking.
