Greene King IPA (Bottle, Can, Keg)

Greene King IPA (Bottle, Can, Keg)

Bottles and cans; Filtered.
India Pale Ale

A perfectly balanced award winning beer, characterised by its hoppy taste and aroma that comes from the use of Challenger and First Gold hops which are combined with pale and crystal malts.

3.7 Gyogyszeres keseruseg, fuiz es ereztem benne egy kis fustosseget is. Sokan lehúzták, de nekem kifejezetten bejott. Inkabb mondanam tipikus angol bitter ale-nek, mint ipanak. Ennyiert megerte.
2.8 Old rating from 2010 - 500ml bottle, pours golden with a white head. Aromas & tastes of apple, pear, toffee, caramel & malt. Moderate body. Light bitter finish
1.4 0,5 bottle.
2.6 bottle @ lidl (budapest) golden colour, normal body, average carbonated, white head, light bitterness, hoppy, toast, thin texture, easy to drink, but it's not an IPA
3.2 500ml bottle from Lidl. It is copper coloured beer with correct bubbling but weak foam. Taste is pear, toffee, hint of smoke and bitterness. It is a correct IPA.
2.3 500ml bottle from McColl's, Rutherglen(£1.99): Dark amber to mahogany but quite clear bodied, topped with a half cm, foamy white head covering the surface & holding fairly well. Sweet & buttery to start, some apple atop a nutty base with some caramel to finish; very basic on the nose though. It's more of a bitter, earthy taste with some caramel malts & bread flavours coming through, I got some nutty touches too with toffee & faint grassy hops to finish. It's quite gassy with strong carbonation & a tangy, lingering bitter finish that seemed stronger than the 3.6% but it's basic & pretty poor overall.
3.0 500ml can bought at Sunakku no Aji / GP33 in Tai Po. Clear copper brown colour; Three-quarter finger head with off-white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Good sticky lacing and active slow carbonation; Fragrant aroma of ale malt, with strong caramel, toffee, light toast, floral, sugar, light pepper, bread, light lemon and light grass; Mid to light sweet taste of fair Ale malt, with strong caramel, toffee, red fruits, light floral, light sugar, light black pepper, hint of nutmeg, spices, bread, lemon, fair bitter hops and grass; Light body. Watery but slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is fairly light Ale maltyness in a runny background, with distinctive toffee, caramel and red fruit characters. Light flowery with very moderate sweetness, good spicy peppery notes with flashes of nutmeg in between. Bready with lemon to round. Decent!... Hoppiness is Floral, light pepper, light lemon and light grass in nose. Light floral, light black pepper, hint of nutmeg, spices, lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is light to moderate for a lasting, mid to low level bitter fair malty finish; Slightly dry after taste. Light spicy bready and quite easy to mouth. Comments: Given this is an Ordinary Bitter at 3.6% abv, I think it stands up quite decently with nice copper color and looks, good caramel and toffee aroma and taste with dashing touch of peppery spices. It may not be as ‘bitter’ as you expect, but it was meant to be an easygoing macro Bitter, so I have no complaint. Don’t mind to have it again!
2.8 Non mi ha emozionato. Colore e aspetto positivo, limpido con schiuma non molto persistente. Rinfrescante ma al gusto mi è mancato carattere (soggettivo). Ipa un po' particolare 3.6 alcool. Miele e sigaro. Ne dolce ne amaro.
2.6 Jan 2020. Clear glass 500ml bottle, filtered, from a mixed box. Though clear glass, the bottle was kept in a box, so the hops are not light struck. I quite enjoyed this beer. Not sure if the recipe has been changed over the years, or I am less critical of a brand that has an awful (undeserved?) reputation, but I found it a pleasant and enjoyable ale. A good meld of gentle toffee malt with a gentle flurry of English hops bringing it to a satisfying close. I've never really had a positive attitude toward Greene King IPA, and that may have prejudiced my enjoyment of the beer. I approached this one quite neutrally, and have been surprisingly impressed. Not overwhelmed, but, yes, quietly impressed. I'd be OK with having this again. [2.8] Jan, 2016 500ml clear glass bottle, filtered, from Tesco. Part of a six pack of Great Ales of Britain. Clear glass, but because this was in a box there is no aroma of light stuck hops. The sterile filtering removes the off-flavours of pasteurising. But we are still left with a a bland, characterless beer. Easy drinking, yes, but rather thin and tending toward mineral and metallic water rather than beer. Poor stuff really. [2.2] March, 2005 Can. Clean, soft and dry. Quite drinkable with some hint of apple. Lacks character, but is quite inoffensive. [2.6]
2.9 Nice copper colour, dissipating head. Malt and apple aroma. Fairly light flavour. Green apple and pear, light toffee malts, not much hops. Almost like a cider? Very unusual flavour for an IPA, but not bad. Smooth mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
2.4 500ml Aroma vrlo ugodna (karamela), boja lijepa, bistra, čista, brončana, slaba pjena...okus totalno razočaranje, vrlo vodenkast i metalan, slabo gorak...
3.6 500ml bottle brewed in England at 3.6%. Clear copper-toffee with a smallish, so-so duration head. Smooth toffee-fudge aroma, seems to be a Greene King calling card, with the slightest hint of orange blossom. Moderate+ carbonation, robust texture. A little orange blossom, and even a touch of zest in the finish, with a toffee-fudge malt. Does this count as an IPA? I'm going to say it scrapes by, but connoisseurs are not going to be thrilled and no mistake - it is very, very modestly hopped and, perhaps worse for an "English IPA", lacks any real malt complexity. However, it's an easy-drinking, cheap little number, at a modest ABV yet with a decent, if only just, flavour. Decent in the way that a bloke wearing nothing but a pair of shorts is decent, I suppose. Greene King beers are probably all at their best on tap, which might seem obvious, but considering their style of lowish ABV malt-focused beers, is more the case than it might otherwise be. If you think of this as a Bitter, it's not bad at all. No great shakes though. Many beers are at their best on tap, but most of Greene King's range is first and foremost designed around that, with the bottled version a make-do affair. If you want something smooth and malty, but just about balanced by hops, at a low price and ABV but without being flavourless...hey, this does that just fine. I can't hate it. If you think of it as a more citrussy, much lower ABV Old Speckled Hen, then it has its place.
2.9 Bottle. Clear copper colour with a medium fine pored off-white head, nose is very shy but malty, roasty, buttery and slightly citric with notes of caramel and lemon cake, taste is slightly sweet, citric, buttery and roasty with a moderately dry finish and a rather light body.
2.8 500ml bottle. Clean amber colour, small off-white head, decent retention. Aroma of sweet biscuit malts, some dry hops, not much else. Taste is a little thin but pleasant with the biscuit like malts, dry and mild bitterness in the finish. Decent body for the ABV. Very one-dimensional but nice enough.
2.6 Aroma: caramel. Taste: bitter, a bit unbalanced, metallic finish. Not the best beer I‘ve had
2.6 0.5l bottle. Clear golden/light amber color with white/beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, cardboard and hops. Taste is light bitter and pretty watery. Very good as thirst quencher.
3.1 500ml bottle from Lidl, drunk at home on a warm June evening. Clear amber, small head, plenty of lacing but no visible rising carbonation. On the nose, spices, ripe citrus, honey, malt biscuit. In the mouth, more of the same, mid bitterness at first, light texture, slight hoppy dryness into a short, clean bitter finish. Old school bitter with touches of new school IPA. Not bad.
3.2 Bottle - clear, golden bronze with initial large white head which dissipates to a thin line. A balanced aroma - malty and pleasant. Good mouthfeel. Ok tasting - again decent malty and hoppy.
3.2 Pours clear copper amber with a medium head. Aroma of bread and butter. Taste of malts, butter, dried fruits. Medium carbonation. Light bitter aftertaste. Not bad, but certainly not an IPA. More of an english ale
3.6 500ml bottle. Pours a dark amber/mahogany with a thin white head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, butterscotch, brown bread. More of the same on the taste with a touch of charred wood. Light bodied but not thin. Light bitterness on the finish. More of a traditional British ale than an IPA. This is good stuff, and in my opinion does not deserve the really low average rating on here.
2.1 Greene kings all time best seller session ale Sweet and malty with frothy white head Bottle version not a favourite
2.9 Greene King IPA 3.6%. Copper bronze, toffee aroma, full bodied, caramel malt, barley sugar, pear, green apples, bready finish. Pleasant SIPA from Suffolk.
2.8 Fles 50cl thuis. Bitters, zoeten, maltig, fruitig, grassig, wat droog. (26-5-2020).
2.8 0,5 l bottle from Lidl Germany. Clear amber in the glass with a more than one finger foamy pale beige head. Low fruity an dry malty smell. Taste is a little bit fruity at the start, followed by dry malty, increasing caramel. Not really complex. Dry cardboard malt bitterness in the second part. Low carbonated. Okay for that low abv.
3.3 0.5 l bottle from local 'LIDL', best before January 2021. Clear deep amber with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Slightly sweetish, gently fruity, slightly herbal-grassy aroma of marmelade, tea leaves, some orange peel and a touch of tobacco. Minimally sweet, slightly bitter, gently fruity and moderately herbal-grassy taste of marmelade, tea leaves, orange peel, some caramel and hints of tobacco, followed by a short, gently bitter, slightly herbal-grassy finish. Thin to medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. A decent Ale, typically British, quite aromatic and just 3.6% abv. A Bargain!
3.0 Clear amber color with medium creamy White mostly lasting head. Hoppy aroma. Sweet and bitter flavor. Watery palate.
2.4 Molto leggera. Non sa molto di IPA. Piacevole comunque. Sapore caramelloso mix dolce amaro.
3.4 SKÅL, CHEERS, SALUT, KIPPIS, YAMAS, L’CHAIM, PROOST, SALUTE, KANPAI 🍻🙏😎
2.4 Aroma : Light sweet caramel/bready malt, hint of grassy hop. Taste : As aroma. Bittersweet balance is decent is about all you can say. Not nasty just thin/watery and boring-o.k session ale at the low ABV
2.3 Aroma: Fruity sweet with caramel. Flavour: Light fruity bitterness with fruity sweetness and a fruity sweet finish. Colour: Golden amber with an offwhite head. From: Can @ Voldby Købmandsgård Mar. 2020.
