Grimm Double Negative

Grimm Double Negative

Double Negative pours jet black with burnt orange highlights. A long lasting tan head leaves abundant lacing. Aromas bursting from the glass include coffee, bitter chocolate, caramel, black currant and blueberry. Creamy and viscous on the palate, the flavor initially follows the nose. A pop of smooth bitterness comes after, and then a lingering, roasty finish.

4.0 Dark black purple with a thin brown head of cream. Aroma is rich and a touch sour. Flavors are dark fruit, chocolate, no alcohol until the finish. 7/3/8/4/18
4.1 deep black with a light burn and roast chocolate bar and alcohol brew. moderate body and thick head. perhaps some coffee. satisfying not complex a more simple winner.
4.1 Pours black with a small, dense, lingering head. The aroma of coffee, roast malt, and chocolate. Taste is similar and pretty sweet but not overly so. Full bodied. Excellent.
3.6 Dark brown-black mahagony in colour. Lots of dark chocolate notes, toffee, roasted malts, pithy orange peel and dark red fruits. Relatively smooth and a bit slick, sweet and semi bitter. Long lasting on the finish with roasty malt notes.
3.9 Draft. Black beer with a brown head. Chocolate and marshmallow aroma with light rost. Chocolate and caramel flavor with toffee. Medium bodied. Chocolate and caramel linger with light coffee.
3.8 Sweet chocolate, some berries, very light, pitch black, sweet, chocolate, not very easy going, thick and sugary, caramel
4.3 500ml bottle from Windsor Hy-Vee, in a Sam Smith pint glass. Really nicely mingled aromas of finished oak, milk chocolate, medium-roast coffee, malted milk balls and caramel with hints of candied fruit and forest floor. Pours oily black with three fingers of dense, creamy chocolate head that laces really extravagantly. Creamy, sweet and malty up to start things off with roast and subtle bitter chocolate taking over mid-palate, with a long malty and roasty finish with a little heat from the 10.0% ABV hitting bottom. Full-bodied but surprisingly easy to drink. A little bit of bitter chocolate astringency at the back of the throat after the finish. Really good! Great aromatics, looks amazing and surprisingly easy drinking for an imperial, without even having to adulterate it with vanilla beans. The best of the 3 Grimm brews I've had to date. Cheers!

3.7 Bottle. Dark brown color with beige head. Aroma is herbal-earthy, raisins, caramel. Taste is earthy, grains, granola, chocolate, a touch raisins. Decently chewy, but also a bit too cereal-like for me.
3.6 Tastes of soy sauce, cocoa nibs, a bit of vinegar. Not as complex as anticipated but good never the less.
3.6 Bottle from Consumers Beverages. Dark brown coloured. Fairly sweet, borderline sickly, roasted malts, chocolate, soy sauce.
3.7 On tap. Pours black with light head. Aromas of dark chocolate and roasted malts. Flavors follow with a light dark sugar and nougat. Clean and pleasant.
3.9 From a a half liter bottle. Pours a dark cola with a tan head. Aromas of chocolate, cinnamon and coffee. Flavors are bitter roast and dark chocolate.
3.7 Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Pours a pitch black with a small brown head that lingers. Big coffee forward nose with dark roasted malt, cacao nib, fig, blackcurrant and light tobacco notes. Smooth on the palate, more roasted cacao nib and malt notes with a dark fruit undertone...some fig as well. Good body. Lingering coffee and cacao bitterness with dark fruit.
3.3 500mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Nose brings out medium roasted malt and a touch of cocoa. Flavour is somewhat sweet, with medium roast, chocolate, and some lactose. Not very complex, but it's very tasty and well-made.
3.4 Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of bitter chocolate notes with some dry raisins notes with some liquorish notes. Taste is a mix of liquorish notes with some bitter chocolate and light dry fruits notes. Body is lighter then I was expecting with some good carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. Weird mix of flavours on this one with too much dry fruits notes and bitter chocolate which didn’t paired well.
3.9 22 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a dark brown with a beige head of foam. Molasses and toffee aroma. Earthy and strong molasses notes. Big body and medium carbonation.
4.0 Draft pour at Snallygaster 2018. Poured a pitch black color with a medium sized tan head. aroma was dark chocolate. Lost of roasted malts, chocolate. Really nice. Alcohol is pretty well hidden.
3.4 Duft karamel ristet malt chokolade kaffe Smag ristet malt karamel chokolade
4.3 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 4/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense and rocky tan head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, nuttiness, toasted biscuit, dark bread, raisin, plum, prune, fig, currant, blackberry, blueberry, and licorice; with light notes of smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, nuttiness, toasted biscuit, and dark bread; with lighter notes of raisin, plum, prune, fig, currant, blackberry, blueberry, licorice, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light roast/char and herbal/woody/spicy hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, nuttiness, toasted biscuit, dark bread, dark fruit, licorice, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and minimal acrid/astringent flavors lingering after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is an amazing imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV; with the mellowly bitter/roasty/drying finish. Amazing rich and well rounded imperial stout malt complexity; restrained fruity English yeast and balancing earthy hops. Pretty close to Russian Imperial Stout qualities for the style. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.
3.6 Pours jet black with a tan head. Aroma is rich with notes of chocolate. Taste is complex and tasty. Notes of malts, chocolate and coffee. A very good imperial stout. Thumbs up.

4.2 LCI. From the tap @AsIsNYC. Nice bitter, chocolaty imp stout, full bodied, thick texture, rich flavour. Very good!
4.0 I'm not sure how much I like this, and that is why I was so surprised to see myself give it a 4.0. Cool weird label lands it a 5 for appearance. Creamy flavor with fresh herbs and lots of malt. Makes a strong impression on the palate. Some cola and coffee cake in the fresh fields aroma.
