Gritty McDuffs Original Pub Style

Gritty McDuffs Original Pub Style

Original Pub Style is a light copper-colored medium-bodied with a nice dry bite at the finish. A subtle combination of Cascade and Willamette hops give this ale a fine floral aroma and a slightly fruity aftertaste. The taste captures the freshness of a hand-crafted brew pub ale that goes right from the conditioning tank to your glass!

Note:
Bottled version is contract-brewed by Shipyard.

3.2 Pours cloudy golden with medium white head. Aromas are cereals, grass and some light citrus. Light dry finish. Bit that hoppy but quite drinkable.
2.7 Bottle, screw-top. Nose is sweet and unclean, strong sugary character with some lemon and grain. Clear golden body leaning orange with above-average carbonation and a sudsy beige head. Watery body actually pretty dry with some mild bitterness and grain, and again, dirty, but not off-putting. Some mild citrus and grass, malt is thin and weak. Still, on the whole, something I’d be happy to toss back over the course of a few hours, a single APA with straightforward character.
3.4 22 oz bottle. Cloudy orange color with a fluffy head. Looks gorgeous in the glass. This is characterized as a pale ale, but it's not hoppy or bitter enough for my taste. In fact, it's almost sweet. OK I guess for those cool summer evenings on the deck in Maine, but I'm not sure I'd order it after a cold day of lumberjacking. Anyway I'm a city boy.
3.1 Draught: This one pours a clear, golden color. It had a wisp of a white head on it that left a little lacing. The aroma is a bit lighter. Some malts, as well as grassy and earthy hop notes. The taste is clean, and leans towards the lighter side. Some malts, and a little earthy hops. A slightly dry finish. Pretty easy drinking.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a bright copper color with thin white head. Bready aroma. Mellow malt flavor is quickly taken out by a citrusy hop bitterness but just a touch, not a lot of hops but well balanced. Finishes dry. There was a hit of metallic flavor which I’m sure is not supposed to be there. I like all of Gritty’s products and like this one as well. Not as highly hopped as most APA and seems more like an English pale ale.
3.1 Keg at the Portland branch. Pours clear gold with a fine, creamy white head. Grainy malt nose, some leaves, orange rind. Light to ,Edith sweet flavor, mild bitter pine needles, some leaves, a bit of ripening orange. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with very faint citrus, leaves, pine. Again, a very basic beer.
2.7 Light malt aroma with a mild crispness. Clear golden color with a medium white head. Sweet mild apple flavor in the beginning that last until the finish. Bitterness in the finish and ending. Light palate.
3.6 Pours cloudy copper color with white head. Malty aroma with some floral hops. Malty flavor with some caramel, some mineral chewiness, and then slight hoppy finish. Nice brew. Miss the old logo.
2.6 Clear medium copper amber with a thin head and no lace, The taste is caramel malt with a generous infusion of carbonation, adding hops late in the palate until fading all flavors in an oily finish. This is disappointingly heavy and bloating for such a low abv; I can drink it, but I don’t think I would choose it.
2.5 tap at brewpub. clear pale golden with a small white cap, some retention. pale cereals, sweet malts, bit of booze (!), shy hops - herbal and a hint of citrus. moderate carbonation, light body - not watery, bland herbal finish. blah.
2.9 355ml bottle. Nice copper colour, good tan head. Bready and floral aroma. Taste is bready, caramel, copper, mineral water. Body is a little too thin and watery. Overall, decent, standard.
2.8 On tap. Pours a dark copper color with an off-white head. Aroma is toasted biscuity malts, some caramel, and hints of hops. Taste is similar to the aroma. On the malty side, but it does have a nice spiciness in there as well, and some hops in the finish.
3.3 The appearance is a golden yellow/orange color with a semi-thick cream looking head that lasts about one minute. The beer has a light cloudiness and has a lacing that slides gently down the glass as it drinks. The smell is pretty malty with some light hops and some ever so light grains. The taste is slightly grainy with the malts coming back and brings in an ever so slight sweetness to it. The palate is medium yet balanced and smooth, and somewhat dry. Overall, this is a good beer that is very drinkable.
4.5 Excellent pub ale style. Nice and bready but not overpowing. Subtle and smooth. Great beer!
2.6 On tap at brewpub, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Smell is floral fruits. Taste is a sweet malty flavor with some hops on the finish. Basic pale ale.
2.3 Pours a copper, toffee brown with a small off white head. Aroma is caramel malt and some specialty grains. Taste is light caramel malts and a small presence of hop. Fairly boring.
3.4 Draft ... Nice copper color. Malty taste, good interpretation of an English ale. Subtle hop finish.
2.6 I’m staring to find all the beers by thins company a bit thin and just falling short of hitting that next tier of good beers. This one is thin, but not bad. Caramel malty and floral taste, You detect some fruit, but all their beers have just hints of these ingredients. I say be bold!
2.9 Bottle from Liz. Pours light golden amber with a slight white head. Light citrus and caramel aromas. Med body. Thickish feel, so maybe towards full. There’s some caramel, and some citrus, but not all that much, and it’s really only bitter enough to avoid being sweet. It doesn’t have that roasty APA malt, and it’s not bitter in my book. Kind of like some of those other beers from Shipyard - KBC and Seadog. Like they didn’t want to use a lot of ingredients to make a statement.
2.7 Reviewed from notes (2008). A: Clear golden hue... fluffy white head... no lacing... S: Butter... bread... hints of caramel... T: A pleasant combination of a bready base with caramel highlights and a soft hop finish... M: Smooth and oily but the flavors are crisp...
3.1 nothing too special about this one. tastes of malty caramel, light molasses and maybe some subdued hazelnut. body and mouthfeel are quite light for the style. finishes with a good balance of malt and hops.
3.3 Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a Sam Adams pint glass. The color is a clear orange/gold with a finger of foamy white head and some slight lacing left on the glass. The smell is a little bit fruity with some pale malt aroma running through out. There is the smallest bitterness there, giving a small preview of things to come. The taste is malty at 1st. There is a light pale malt taste mixed with some fruit flavor that leads into a small orange flavor with a dry earthy bitterness. The feel of this beer is medium bodied and goes down pretty easy. A beer that is rather light in alcohol is very drinkable as well.
3.3 listed as "pub pale" so hopefully this is the correct entry, tap at Portland location - This tap brew has an aroma of caramel malt and citrus hops. The flavor is similar and well balanced with a medium body. It won’t blow many people away, but it’s fairly good.
3.2 Draft in a sampler at the brewpub. Pours a clear gold color with a small white head that leaves some lace. Aroma of pale malts, grassy hops, wheat, cereal, and orange citrus. Flavor is pretty much the same but the hops and citrus pop more. Thankfully, or else this would be another dull Vacationland. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a sweet mouthfeel.
2.9 Bottle at the lake in nh. Aroma is a mix of fruit, caramel malt, light hops. Thin, watery body. Semi-sweet malty taste with no trace of hops. This style rarely does it for me and this was no exception.
3.0 12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours clear, dark golden with a thick, off-white head. Aroma of light caramel malts and some floral, slightly citrusy hops. Flavor pretty bland. A decent beer, but nothing special.
3.0 Tap at brewery. Orange, tangerine doughy wheat and a touch of lemon. Fruity.
2.6 22 oz bottle. Used a pint glass. Light hazy orange color. Small white head with no lace. Nose of very light hops and bread like malt. Taste is much the same and just as weak. Thin mouhfeel, watery. Below average, but not terrible.
2.0 Darker and more hazy than pale lager. Smell is a little sweet &alarming like those quite rude high alky baltic lagers. First taste is malty and above medium personality impact. Barely any CO2. Dull like many higher hopped APA. Not real impressed but this style rarely impresses me. Dull lingering finish.
3.8 Tap at the brewery. Comes to life in the mouth. Aroma has caramel; taste is sweet, with bitterness taking over. Palate is velvety, with a medium body. Orange, with a frothy head.
