Gruut Amber Ale

Gruut Amber Ale

"Gruut" is an ancient Flemish coin. In medieval Ghent, brewers used Gruuts to pay taxes on the richness of their brew. Gentse Stadsbrouwerij has revived this ancient tradition with Gruut Amber Ale. Enjoy it’s rich taste, deep copper color, and smooth-drink-ability. Ingredients: water, barley malt, spices, yeast.

4.2 This is a great beer. Beat my expectations. Darker than i imagined. Sweet and a great head. For sure a re purchase. At 6.6abv an easy drink.a really nice mouth feel lighter on the carbonation which is the way i like my beers.
4.0 Intense amber pour with reddish hues and a bone-colored head. Aroma is booze, caramel, orange, honey, dough, toffee... Fresh and mouth-covering, firm, leading to a medium-lasting finish in which some pie and [surprising] undergrowth tinges show up.
3.1 Bottle drunk at home. Clear dark copper appearance with medium sized white head. Aroma is malt, spiced and roasted. Flavour is dry, bitter, spiced and malts.
3.1 Draft taster @ Gruut, Gent. Cloudy reddish murky amber, creamy offwhite head. Herbal, zoethout, cough syrup, caramel sweet malty. Light bodied, low carbonation.
3.5 Bottled. From local Jumbo. The aroma has caramel malts, bit grain, hint of spicy yeast. Not strong. Clear, amber coloured beer with an off-white, large, frothy head. The taste is caramel sweet, has orange peel, cinnamon. Very easy drinkeable. Watery but not in a negative way; taste is okay and carbo is not too heavy. Good one.
3.1 A nice amber ale, but a little too fizzy. Very malty and a good smack of caramel. Brewery known for using herbal process, but couldn’t detect it here.
3.6 bottiglia 33 cl, schiuma beige fine persistente, color marrone/mogano limpido, al naso caramello prugne secche zucchero di canna e leggero affumicato, in bocca malto frutta matura uvetta sotto spirito spezie con leggere note tostate, carbonatazione decisa, corpo leggero, watery, amaro accentuato lungo nel finale. Manca un po' di corpo ma non è male. 14.09.18
3.7 W zapachu karmel, w smaku karmel, łatwe w piciu ale brak goryczki trochę przeszkadza.
3.7 Bottle pours mahogany red-brown with a fine fluffy head and a herby, lighlty toffeed nose. Smooth and rounded, with a light plummy sourness, spicy rye breadiness and a sweet herbal caramel edge. Rich and delicious.
4.0 bottle @ home deep dark brown clear, cappuccino head riped fruit, light honey, caramel, belgin yeasts, raisins caramel, medium light body, light alcohol, roasted caramel, mandel, nuts
3.2 Poors dark red-brown, oily, light caramel head. sweetish, caramel, some red currant, rather faintly spicy. Taste sweet caramel, light plums, some spices, bitterness. MF syrupy. It has some tasty fruityness, it's sweet but tolerably so. The gruut adds some depth and character. Too bad the sweet caramel taste pushes the taste of the gruut somewhat to the background, I was looking forward too a specific gruut tasting ale.
3.8 clear dark amber to mahogany colour, large, dense and quite stable beige-ish-yellowish head; aroma and taste of plum jam, some dried cherry, roasted rye bread and burnt sugar; quite enjoyable
0.6 On initial waft of the frothy aroma... it did not promise much. An apprehensive sip did little to quell my fears. A gulp later and I was ready to pack up and go home. Not the worst beer I’ve ever tasted, but certainly up there. MEHMEHMEH
3.2 On tap clear amber with a white head. Aroma of citrus and caramel. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. Mouthfeel is thin.
3.0 23-07-17 // bottle sahred at home. Almost clear copper coloured. Small white head. Mild sweet malty, mild caramel. Smooth. Solid.
3.3 From Belgiuminabox. In Teku glass. Playing Heaven Island. Usual profile of ambers I dont use to like combined with herbal notes that make it more affordable. i dont miss the hops
3.7 Servida de torador en Gent, Bélgica. Un toque dulce al final. Fácil
3.4 Sample at the brewery. Dark amber color, creamy offwhite head, persistent. Aroma is malty, roasted malt, juicy, some berries. Light body, thin texture, average carb. Smooth finish. Simple, earthy, honest, easy to take, smooth.
3.0 Roodbruin bier zonder schuim.
2.9 Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is malt, spices, caramel, dark bread, clove, with a touch of brown sugar. Flavour is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Medium bodied. Sweet, very malty and spicy. Okay-ish, lacks some depth.
3.0 Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear amber to red with a medium white head and an aroma of spices, roasted malts, bubble gum, candy and toffee. The taste is medium to heavy sweet with a medium carbonation and a slightly sweet finish
Geur: kruidig, gebrande mout. Smaak: licht zoet, kruidig, bubblegum, snoeperig. Goede koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: licht zoet en prikkelend.
3.7 02/09/2016 - 33cl bottle @ a restaurant in Ghent. Darlk copper with rocky light tanned head. Nose is dark malts, caramel, fruits, same for taste. Strange for an amber ale but it wasn’t bad.
3.3 Sampled from tap at the brewpub. Clear, dark brownish amber with a dark beige head. Sweetish-malty aroma of caramel, nuts and some brown sugar. Sweetish-malty, minimally roasty taste of caramel, nuts, a bit of chocolate and some brown sugar, followed by a short, slightly bitter and a bit roasty finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay!
