Gruut Belgian Wit Bier

Gruut Belgian Wit Bier

"Gruut" is an ancient Flemish coin. In medieval Ghent, brewers used Gruuts to pay taxes on the richness of their brew. Gentse Stadsbrouwerij has revived this tradition with Gruut Wit Beer. Enjoy it’s natural cloudiness, golden color, and refreshing finish.

3.4 Robe blond laiteux, belle mousse assez crémeuse.
3.3 Bottle from the brewer, pours golden-yellow with a big fluffy head, nose is lightly herbal and spicy, with a touch of orange peel. Soft yet lightly crisp, creamy-dry texture, touches of fennel and/or coriander, mild bitterness, a bit gassy, more herbal than most Wits, growing a little fruity in the finish, and thankfully very little inappropriate Hefeweizen character beyond a faint banana note on the nose.
2.8 Fles 33cl thuis. Fris, erg vlak, beetje zoet, beetje witbiersmaak. (4-2013).
3.0 Bottle from a Delhaize in Ghent. Pours hazy pale yellow with a thinning, foamy, white head. Fresh aroma of lemon, orange, coriander, wheat, yeast, some honey. It tastes light grassy & spicy bitter and light to medium wheaty sour, some fruity sweetness in the back. Dry, wheaty, bit spicy finish. Medium body (at best), slick texture, fizzy carbonation. I'm pleasantly surprised as it's not another typically Belgian, overly spiced Wit.
3.3 Good beer. Fine aroma. I recomend it for light meals or just drinking.
3.5 Bottle from Bier Paleis, Brugge. Very hazed golden-amber with a thin head. Has a nice wheat nose with banana at its most prominent here, but there's a good blast in its taste too albeit a little thin in its texture.
3.1 23-07-17 // bottle shared at home. Unclear light yellow beer with a small white head. Mild fruity nose. Mild yeasty with some hints of fruit. Light and easy refreshing drinking.

3.5 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Oslo S. ABV is 5%. Very pale straw colour, huge white head. Pleasant aroma of coriander, orange peel and various herbs. Light bodied. Flavour of herbs, some citrus. The finish is a bit dull.
3.1 On Tap @ Gruut (Gentse Stadsbrouwerij), Gante 09/09/17. Color amarillo pajizo, aromas cítricos, sabor cítrico notas a levadura, cuerpo medio.
3.5 From Belgiuminabox. In Teku glass. Playing 8 Bit Commando, then Tengami. Even without any hops, it tastes very similar to a standard (and good, not too much spicy) wit, maybe a bit more herbal
2.8 Sample at the brewery. Very pale milky color hazed white head. Aroma is wheaty, floury and spiced with orange mostly, spruce, pink pepper, mint/herbs. Taste sweet light tart, thin watery body, soft carb, easy to drink. Finish is like vine sprouts. A peculiar wit feels historical somehow, ancient style. No hops i think.
3.0 Opaque golden yellow, white foam had. Aroma and taste are fresh, but bit out of the ordinary. OK. (Velp 201706)

3.7 From 33cl bottle, at Nud e Crud, Rimini, Italy. Pours pale yellow with white fine head. Aroma is citrus/orange, esters from typical Belgian beer quite noticeable. Body is light and medium carbonation. Taste is tendentially sweet, with some citrusy feeling evident. Finish is short and pleasant.
2.7 Hazy, very pale yellow pour with white head. Light aroma of wheat malts, fruity. Taste is same, light citrus; medium sweet and little bitter. Very low carbonation. This combination makes it actually somewhat like Seven-Up. I miss CO2, bitterness.
2.8 Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is sweetish wheat malt, spicy yeast, spices, citrussy notes with lemon. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and only lightly bitter. Body is light and a bit weak. Okay spicy Wit, though nothing to write home about.
3.4 Sampled from tap at the brewpub. Hazy, pale yellow with a slightly creamy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, a little sourish, moderately fruity and slightly spicy aroma of lemon zest, coriander, some banana and a touch of clove. Sweetish, slightly sourish, fruity and a bit spicy taste of lemon zest, coriander, some banana and hints of cloves, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a bit tart and minimally yeasty-spicy finish. Thin to medium body, smooth, slightly effervescent and minimally astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice Wit!
3.7 Bottle @ Thomas W. thanks. Lasting but small white head. Very clowdy yellow color. Fine aroma of fresh cut dandelions. Typical belgian Witt taste and no sweetness. Refreshing summer beer.

3.1 Lys strågul farve med lyst skum. Lukt av hvete, gress og sitrus. Smak av hvete, gress, sitrus og banan. Fruktig og godt karbonert. Vinmonopolet.
3.0 33cl bottle. Pours a hazy straw yellow colour with a small but long lasting creamy white head. Aroma is a little weak, just some citrus and wheat. Flavour is a bit bland, citrus and wheat again, couldn’t detect any spices one would expect. Not unpleasant but disappointing for a witbier.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a smoke-hazed straw yellow body with a large rocky white head. Nose is citrus peel, wheat, straw, baker’s yeast and hints of pale malts, minerals and wet grass. Taste is wet grass, wheat, citrus, straw and hints of floral honey notes, pale malts and baker’s yeast. Light body, high carbonation. Nice and floral-oriented wit with lots of freshness.
